[i]In the peaceful village of Salem, a dark presence is about to make itself known. For years, the family based crime organization known as the Mafia has been establishing itself in the foundation of the community. Until now, the naive citizens have been unaware of the evil among them. Tonight, however, the Mafia makes its move. Tonight, someone will die, and until the Mafia has eliminated all opposition, the innocent will continue to die. Unless, of course, the Mafia is destroyed first...[/i]

You start with a group of players. Everyone gets a secret role. Some of them are good guys, and some of them are Mafia. Most players even get Special Abilities they can use at Night.

During the day, the towns folk try to figure out who amoung them is a mafia member in disguise by looking at clues they've picked up and watching for people to make a mistake. If more than half the players vote for somebody during the 'Day', they are lynched and removed from the game, and the Day ends.

During the night, you aren't allowed to talk. However, this is when most players can use their special abilities. It's also when the mafia gets to choose one person to kill off.

The mafia know who the mafia are, and are allowed to talk to each other outside of the game.

The townies don't know who anyone is, and have to use deductive reasoning to find out.

If you're townie, your win condition is to remove all Mafia from the game.
If you're mafia, your win condition is for the mafia's members to be equal or greater than the number of townies.

It's an epic clash between good vs. evil.

Sign up if you're interested in playing, but be warned; depending on how many people sign up, mafia can be a very long game and it requires attention from it's players. Don't sign up unless you believe you'll be around to actually play.

Also, I can give the game a theme (like Yu-Gi-Oh) if people want, but otherwise I was going to do it vanilla style because I assume a lot of the people will have never played.

I was actually thinking about making a more organized version of Mafia, since Smogon has a really big Mafia community there, and they have a majority of their Games forum dedicated to Mafia.

What roles are you planning on having? Villager, Mafia, Doctor, Cop, Ninja...?

I always thought a lot of the fun of forum mafia came out of not knowing what roles you were faced with.

Vanillas on both sides, generic power roles.

Ninja? Not a common term, familiarize me.
