It took a few listens, but once the album clicked...so good. That's probably my favorite song.

Alright then, and while we're on the tpic of Post-Metal bands, you dig Jesu?

Album cover still bugs me though.

The album cover wasn't bad, but it was different than their usual

I haven't really liked most of what I've heard, to be honest. The stuff on their split with Envy was ok but I didn't really like anything else. Maybe I'll try again.

I actually like it. When I listen to the music and look at the art, it just feels...I dunno, it feels right. It has a certain level of mystique to it.

At first I wasn't too big on them, but then I liked them more after each listen, I haven't listened to their split album before, though I do have their Silver-EP.

The only albums I heard from Jesu are the s/t and Infinity. Prefer the s/t more but I like his work with Godflesh. It's more accessible and unlike Jesu's work, the didn't get boring half way through the album.

Yeah, I prefer Godflesh though I still do like Jesu a lot as well.

I have been really digging Deafheaven recently. I can't describe how this band makes me feel when I listen to them.

Funny, since I'm listening to Deafheaven right now, it took a while, but I've grown to like them

I just found myself not really being able to get into Sunbather as a whole. It's not necessarily a bad album, but I was hoping for them to incorporate more black metal elements and they kinda went the other direction...

Overall, I like Deafheaven, but I'm just a bit underwhelmed by them while many of my friends are constantly raving about their greatness.

It's up there for me, but Sunbather's title track is a strong contender.

Understandable, I can see why Sunbather isn't your thing. They really brought the post-rock and screamo elements to the forefront of their sound, but I typically like those genres more than black metal, so I think it's great. I also think "Deafheaven" is an incredibly cool name.

I have a love-hate relationship with black metal as a whole, I really love the intensity of the genre but some of the more cliche elements (incredibly poor production, cheesy fantasy/occultist imagery) are really a turn-off for me. There are a few groups that I need to look into that avoid those things, but I haven't gotten around to it yet.

Are there any groups similar to Deafheaven that you could recommend? I've heard Wolves In the Throne Room is really good.

I wouldn't expect you to be into Sunbather, I've checked out a couple of tracks from their other album, I'll probably check it out

Try out Gallowbraid they're like Agalloch, but closer to Black Metal than Post-Metal, and also I Alcest would be your thing. As for bands that are closer to Deafheaven's sound, the best I can give is Fen.

Roads to Judah is awesome, definitely check it out.

Them going all post-rock on Sunbather is probably the reason why I love it. Understandable that some fans would be disappointed with it since doing what they did on the album are alienating some of the old fans.

I would suggest:

Alcest (post-black metal/shoegaze)

Lantlos (post-black metal)

Panopticon (atmospheric black metal with a ton of outside influences)

Amesoeurs (post-black metal)

Cold Body Radiation (post-black metal/shoegaze)

Fen (post-black metal)

Altar of Plagues (black metal with some post-rock influence)

Wolves in the Throne Room (atmospheric black metal)

Falls of Rauros (atmospheric black metal/folk)

Skagos (atmospheric black metal)

An Autumn For Crippled Children (post-black metal)

Downfall of Gaia (post-black metal/atmospheric sludge)

Silence of the Old Man (post-black metal/shoegaze)

Sun Worship (atmospheric black metal with some post-rock influences)

Bosse-de-Nage (post-black metal. they've also done a split with Deafheaven)

Hope Drone (atmospheric post-black metal)

Encircling Sea (atmospheric black metal)

Alda (atmospheric black metal)

Dodecahedron (avante-garde black metal)

Liam (instrumental post-rock/shoegaze/black metal)

Infinitas (black metal/DSBM/shoegaze)

Harakiri for the Sky (post-black metal)

Kvelertak (black 'n' roll)

Miserere Luminis (black metal with some post-rock influence)

Sul ad Astral (post-black metal)

Vestiges (post/black metal/hardcore)

Woman is the Earth (atmospheric black metal)

Nontinuum (atmospheric post-black metal with some other influences)

Wildernessking (atmospheric/progressive black metal)

I feel like you might be able to find something you like there. Obviously not ALL of them will sound similar to Deafheaven, but some of them share similar influences and I tried to include some other stuff that was different, but still interesting and could appeal to someone that's not really into the straight up black metal sound.

I always forget that asking you for recommendations yields a lot more bands than I expect haha. I'm alredy a fan of Kvelertak, and I've been meaning to check out Bosse-de-Nage since they did a split with Deafheaven. I'll check some more of these out as well.

I always hated when I asked for recommendations and people only gave me like one or two bands. Hahah.

Haven't really listened to them, but a lot of groups I like are influenced by them a good bit. Should probably give them a listen.

They're one of the important bands to the history of Sludge, tons of bands have noted them as an influence, if you wanna start getting into Melvins, I recommend Houdini as a start. Also I realy dig that trck you posted, gonna look more into those guys.
