Susie
Yes. Funny that you'd posted Kvelertak when I just bought Meir today, I love Kvelertak a lot, I haven't listened to all of Meir, but so far it doesn't seem as good as their self-titled, but still was a good album. Billy Batson
Man, that Norma Jean track was tight. Also think I'm gonna bite the bullet and say that Converge is my favorite band. One of my favorite hardcore/metal band.

Picked both albums up today, listening to them back to back now then I'll post my verdict. EDIT: Both albums are way sexy but I think Meir takes it by having more variety and atmosphere. Dismal Euphony
A little bit of DSBM from France! While I like their album Royaume De Glace better as a whole, this track from Quintessence is amazing.

True facts. What do you think of American black metal in general? There seem to be a lot of American groups going against the traditional black metal style (part of the appeal for me) in favor of more experimentation. Deafheaven is a new personal favorite. Dismal Euphony
What do you think of American black metal in general? There seem to be a lot of American groups going against the traditional black metal style (part of the appeal for me) in favor of more experimentation. Deafheaven is a new personal favorite. Some of it's done well. A few of my favorite black metal bands are from right here in the USA/North America. I don't know if they're "going against" traditional black metal, but they definitely brought in some new ideas and influences. For example, three of my favorite bands are Wolves in the Throne Room, Skagos, and Agalloch. They've been favorites of mine for years now because when they came out, the whole sound and idea behind them was so fresh compared to the dime-a-dozen Scandinavian clones that come out of the woodwork here. While I'm not really down-putting Xasthur, Judas Iscariot, or any of the other well-known USBM bands, I'm just overall underwhelmed by them. I don't think it has anything to do with location, but they just don't offer me anything I haven't found done better by European black metal bands. As for Deafheaven, I found myself pretty disappointed with Sunbather. I heard Roads of Judah when it first came out back in 2011 and I remember being pretty impressed by it. Sunbather, however, just seems to have fallen more towards the post-rock/shoegaze influence whereas I was hoping for more black metal influence. It took awhile for me to pick up on any real black metal influence when I first listened to it. I just find myself being really critical of the new "black-gaze" wave that seems to be in full-force these days...

I love Agalloch (they need to do something new, it's been too long) and I've really been meaning to check out Wolves In the Throne Room. I'm still not familiar with much black metal, I haven't invested too much time getting familiar with the genre as a whole, but I seem to enjoy the groups with more crossover appeal (like the black-gaze stuff) which is probably why I liked Sunbather so much. I'll get to listening to Roads of Judah eventually. I've also been hearing a ton of good stuff about the new Altar of Plagues album, do you have an opinion? Wolves in the Throne Room is excellent, and I suggest you start with their album Diadem of 12 Stars. I mean, if you're into the black-gaze thing, who am I to say otherwise? I just know for me, personally, it's something that I kind of enjoy, but am rarely actually IMPRESSED by. The new AoP album was really good, but it just lacked something the previous two had... I couldn't put my finger on it, but I wasn't wow'd by it like I was the previous two. Even with that being said, it's a very solid album in its own right. I pretty much feel the same way about Blackgaze, I don't mind it, but I'm not really impressed by it or a fan of it. Anyways while we're still discussing BM I might as well post Lifelover

Dismal Euphony
What about Italian Black Metal? I wouldn't say Italians are known for their black metal (most heavy-hitters from Italy are doom/gothic metal), but that's not saying they don't have some great bands. One of my current favorite black metal bands hail from Italy—Common Grave.

Susie
I haven't really listened to much Metal today, I've been listening to a lot of Swans recentlyNot technically Metal but they were an influence to some Metal bands that I know of Also on a more reletively Metal side of things I listened to MSI again, I used to dig these guys a lot, and I still think that this is the greatest song name, top lelPretty good Industrial Metal if you're good with music that has loads of immature jokes

.Corgi
People ignored mentions of Lifelover and Fall of Efrafa? I am slightly offended. On the topic of weird USBM, I find extremists weird. Just look at the comments on any Liturgy video. Makes me want to stop being a part of the community. Also, one of the first post-hardcore bands I heard. Unique as f and amazing. And I uploaded the majority of ...Of Death's discography on youtube. Amazingly overlooked emoviolence with the highest pitched vocals of any band in the genre ever. I also hear some Fugazi-esque stuff going on in this song. If something is compared to Fugazi, you know it's good. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=30gcgsx4xVI&list=PLt1ZgjSONfHOliOtoQTO707J4i6p8E3lH&index=

Liturgy has yet to prove that they're half of what Hendrix claims they are.
