I've been rediscovering a lot of Techdeath recently. I've become sort of stodgy and removed from the genre, but there's still value in it for me. There's some great stuff, man.

Ive heard of Anata but never listened to them, never heard of the other two. On the topic of Tech Death

I think I remembered Aeon trying out Ulcerate a while back but I might be wrong. Botch is good.

Decided to listen to something that I havent touched in years and its actually not that bad at all. The vocals are a bit whinny but not annoying and theres a few experimental tidbits here and there as well as some cool noisy riffs and an interesting concept to the album.

yep. good then, good now.

Nothingface is one of the few nu metal bands that can still be considered awesome.

Had a Botch spree today, they're still as good as ever.

nothingface was sweet. not to into botch tbh. like the first one is.. alright.. maybe i'll like it more later. idk.

Yeah Nothingface are a really good band, you should try out some of their other releases too if you havent. Violence is probably my second favorite behind Skeletons. Yeah you should definitely give Botch another go, they deserve it. We Are the Romans is a classic album.

I swear I've heard Nothingface before, sounds really damn familiar but i can't put my finger on it :L

And just from my experience, i feel this is more of a Death Metal ish thread than Metal XD haha, Do you guys at least up the Irons? Iron Maiden for life. They aren't "heavy" per say, but they have to have some of the best instrumentals in all history, and arguably gave birth to the majority of heavier bands these days haha

What's our average age base in this thread? I feel young again hahaha

Im pretty sure that Nothingface appeared on certain games, movies, and such considering that obscure/semi-obscure bands do get a fair bit of play from production companies because not everyone can afford the big guys and Nothingface were a part of the Nu Metal scene which was really big in the late 90s and the 200s and arguably still is today. Theres been plenty of non-Death Metal stuff being posted here although in more recent times the amount of Death Metal being posted has gone up a little bit. Yeah Iron Maiden did give birth to a lot of heavier bands and were certainly influential but I dont really love them.

Decided to play something I havent played in a while

I like a good variety of death metal, black metal, hardcore punk, metalcore, post-hardcore and emo. I can't say I'm big fan of too much classic havy metal, just doesn't have the aesthetic I like in my music.

Moog (Aintsmart) and I have our ages listed on our profiles, I dunno how old anyone else is.

Jamming Neurosis' previous LP to prepare the one coming out on Friday.

I fall between you both haha, not many people younger than me listen to anything other than Trance or Pop these days so it's good to see.

I was literally raised on old school Metal so it's probably why i love it so much haha, Lamb Of God anyone? Pretty decent modern Groove Metal band

On another note, just went to listen to some In Flames original work, can't believe I never went there before, i was introduced to them by A Sense of Purpose, and never bothered to go back and i regret it a lot. Some beautiful songs in The Jester Race

Trance for the most part is quite mediocre but I do think that there are a few Pop artists who are more intelligent than the average (Grimes, Bjork, and FKA Twigs just to name a few). The closest that I can go to Trance is Underworld and theyre far too eclectic with their sound to really be called Trance and are way closer to some weird form of Prog House.

I was raised on a lot of different things as a kid but when it came down to Metal it was mostly Nu Metal (Deftones, Slipknot, Korn, Disturbed, Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park etc.) and the typical mid-late 2000s AMV stuff (Skillet, Red, Breaking Benjamin, Three Days Grace, Drowning Pool etc.) though I did have some mainstream Melodic Metalcore stuff like As I Lay Dying, Killswitch Engage, Atreyu, and Bullet For My Valentine thrown into there and even a bit of mainstream Deathcore as well as Amon Amarth before I started listening to better Melodeath bands. The only classic Metal band that I really grew up on was Slayer, used to own Reign In Blood and I remember playing it downstairs in my dads house on the Dreamcast that I had, I used to have Enter Sandman and Sad But True by Metallica on my mp3 player when I was young but I barely listened to those songs, they werent angsty enough for young Moogy XP.

To me I find Lamb of God to be boring, if I wanted some Groove stuff id rather lean towards Meshuggah or Gojira.

New and old In Flames both rule, though their two newest tracks I dont really like at all (The End and The Truth). A Sense of Purpose is good but its definitely one of my least favorites of theirs. When it comes down to their earlier Melodeath releases I prefer going for Colony and Clayman though my favorite will always be Reroute to Remain. My entry to In Flames was Come Clarity and I still own my copy of it.

I've been blaring Clayman since lunch time yesterday, and i absolutely love it. I didn't enjoy their stuff newer than A Sense Of Purpose so much because it felt a bit mainstream, but A Sese of Purpose definitely had some great songs on there, Move Through Me, March To The Shore, Disconnected, were all favourites of mine for ages. But now i've found their old stuff, i see why i don't like their newer stuff so much haha.

I tried to get into Meshuggah but found it hard, something about it just didn't appeal to me.

Breaking Benjamin was my favourite band when i was 10, and still one of my favourites today. The instrumentals in their songs from Phobia onward are beautiful.

Love me some Slayer. I don't mind Nu-Metal either, Linking Park was a big influence on my early high school years. You should have a look at My Ticket Home, for some reason they're tagged as Nu-Metal but i can't hear it, besides the scratching (but is that really all it takes to be Nu Metal?)

I like Siren Charms for what it is and I prefer Sounds of a Playground Fading over A Sense of Purpose. Their two newest tracks are meh to me because it feels less like theyre doing what they wanna do and more like theyre trying too hard to sound like they were before. Yeah Meshuggah arent the easiest of bands to get into, really abstract, technical, and their heavy usage of polyrhythms gives them a very discordant sound. Plus their vocalist has a bit of a weird sounding scream.

Eh ill pass on Breaking Benjamin nowadays. I dont really see anything in them that puts them above all of the other bands that were typical of their time. Some of their songs I admit I find to be better but I cant even listen to a single one of their albums in full anymore, I grew tired of that sort of stuff.

id listen to Linkin Parks first two albums more if it werent for the lyrics, too much edge for my tastes. My Ticket Home just sound like another Metalcore band with Nu Metal influence.

I find it hard to find bands with the same sort of sound as My Ticket Home, compared to a majority of Metalcore bands out there they're actually a bit unique.

Here's one for you. Hungry Lights -

This guy is pretty good, unique, talented and does all of the work himself, Guitar, Bass, Drums, Vocals. Only found him the other day, it sounds a bit strange but it's really original in my opinion

I prefer to not talk about things I used to listen to, you can find out by looking at early pages of this thread if you're really interested lol

In Flames was good but now they aren't really good. Only melodeath I jam consistently is Dark Tranquillity who is still amazing, and occasionally At the Gates.

I don't listen to Meshuggah that much but they are a great band, Chaosphere and obZen are my faves. Oh yea and I

I'm a big fan of metalcore but I'm very picky. Most metalcore that I like is definitely not the mainstream, pop-oriented stuff that most people know about. In fact a really good example of metalcore I like would be Botch, whom I posted above. Some of my other faves are Converge, Seizures, Knut, Coalesce, Norma Jean, Deaguy and Breather Resist.

Also, embed videos by changing https:// to http://. Just remove the "s"

Still won't freaking embed -.- Just turns into a link haha

I agree about In Flames, they seem to have gone down hill with each release, my metal mould was built on mainstream metalcore, things like Miss May I, I The Breather etc, i literally have 187 Artists on my phone so it'd be pretty stupid to list them all hahaha. Metalcore mixed with Arch Enemy which really fed my love for guitar.

Second try at the embed, come on boyyyyyyyyyy

lol dang I was about to post. Unfortunately, Wage War pretty much plays all of the metalcore tropes that I dislike: excessive breakdowns, tough-guy vocals, squeaky-clean production and high-pitched clean vocals during the chorus. It's not really my thing at all.

Some stuff I've been digging:

Zygoma (formerly known as The Zygoma Disposal) released their sophomore album this year and it's really something. The mathcore tropes are still present but have been toned down a bit to make room for more experimentation, and a more death metal-oriented sound in general. Also some nice clean passages and sung vocals show up occasionally but they only add to the album's atmosphere. It's really great.

Also found Modern Life Is War's first three albums used at a music store yesterday, ended up paying $14 for all three!! Band is awesome if you want some great non-pussified melodic hardcore.

Wage War are meh. Modern Life Is War are pretty cool, yeah most Melodic Hardcore is pretty boring but Modern Life are one of the exceptions for sure. Will get onto newest Zygoma sometime.

Listened to Powerman 5000 earlier, getting on that late 90s/early 2000s sheet maaan
