Understandable, though for me those were the first two albums I had listened to by Soilwork and then I had tried out The Living Infinite and Steelbath Suicide, so I guess im more tuned to their commercial stuff. I agree though that Speeds vocal style was better at higher pitch, though in general I tend to prefer higher pitched vocalists.

I love the artwork to both of those albums

Yea same, I think you'll dig the albums too since you seem to enjoy the good OSDM stuff.

Will miss you brah

I don't care if it's old or new as long as it's awesome haha. Cruciamentum rules. Clayman is a good album but my fave In Flames are probably Soundtrack to Your Escape and Come Clarity.

I do agree but id prefer bands like Obliteration, Morbus Chron and Cruciamentum over bands like Demilich and Disembowelment (no hate to either though)

Clayman is my favorite out of their melodeath releases but Come Clarity is my favorite in general, it was the first In Flames album I ever bought. Im really not too sure how id rank their albums but if I was ever sat down and forced to id probably go like:

Come Clarity > StYE > RtR > SOAPF > Clayman > Colony > ASOP > Siren Charms > Whoracle > Lunar Strain

ill admit that Whoracle and Lunar Strain both have more substance but theres a few tracks that make Siren Charms stand out more for me and feel much more memorable.

Ugh I can't believe how much I love dm now

Can't say I love melodeath nearly as much but as you know I am a fan of the classic three bands. In Flames the least though, I don't listen to them nearly as often as Dark Tranquillity or At the Gates.

Im the opposite I tend to listen to In Flames the most out of the three legends and dont listen to Death Metal as much as Melodeath, though ill admit that Death Metal is more abundant in its quality bands than Melodeath.

I guess there's only so much that can be done with melodeath to keep it interesting but most of those things were already done ten years ago. The next Dark Tranquillity album should rule, here's hoping for blast beats \m/

Yeah I think the downfall of Melodeath is how unoriginal its become. Every dark and gloomy Melodeath band wants to sound like Dark Tranquillity, every catchy Melodeath band wants to sound like In Flames, every mainstream Melodeath band wants to sound like Soilwork/Scar Symmetry, every raw Melodeath band wants to sound like At the Gates etc. There are a few exceptions but most of those exceptions dont know how to do what theyre trying to do right.

Dark Tranquillity have always been great so I doubt their newest album would be an exception.

Not to mention the overbearing amount of melodeath-inspired metalcore bands that bring nothing to the table. I guess it all comes down to taste in the end but my taste is not lined up with most melodeath at all.

I read an interview from Dark Tranquillity's drummer awhile back where he said that he and the keyboardist had written a lot for the new album, and it's all really fast, heavy riffs. Needless to say, I'm excited.

While I do like a fair amount of Melodeath influenced Metalcore it is definitely way too oversaturated and most bands are pretty mediocre. Its like 50% okay/terrible stuff and 50% stuff thats worth listening to. Honestly part of why theres so many bad ones is just because the insane amount of bands that are playing that style, makes way for less growth and experimentation in a genre when it becomes that saturated

That new DT sounds like itll be good though I doubt ill like it as much as Construct

sooo while the gorguts album was alright, i liked this recommended one a tad bit better:

I'll personally take Gorguts over Deicide any day haha. But to be honest, Obscura is one of the weirdest death metal albums ever written and not an easy listen for many, so I'm glad you derived some enjoyment from it. Their albums before that are more straightforward but still stellar death metal.

And here's another favorite death metal album of mine, though this one has a very prominent doom element as well. Still have a hard time beleiving this came out in 1993.

Free Wi-Fi at Tim Hortons is fun

Love Gorguts but Deicide bore me. The Erosion of Sanity was my first album by them, it took a few listens but I fell in love with it after a while. Condemned to Obscurity is one of the creepiest Death Metal songs ever.

diSEMBOWELMENT are amazing too. Bleak and miserable Death Metal at its finest.

Sweet dude glad you're still with us

Have you heard Inverloch? Their EP is rad, hope they release an LP soon. It's 2/4ths of the diSEMBVOWELMENT line-up and they play songs from Transcendence Into the Peripheral live.

Since were sharing albums we just heard of for the first time

Totally different sound I know, but im not that good on digging up all that OSDM myself

I mostly get my recs from Spotify, I often check out similar artists to whatever I'm listening to. And I happen to be super into death metal at the moment, though I have been listening to Spectral Lore quite a bit as well.

Never heard of Dead and Divine, but some of the similar artists make me afraid I won't like them. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt though, will check tomorrow.

Leaving Adramelech for now, Finnish 90s death metal similar to Demilich but not quite as twisted and with less unique vocals. Album rules in it's own way though.
