I think Controller is my favorite but it's a tough call. They're such a good band, no one else in their niche equals them. I'll jam Source Tags & Codes again really soon. Of Malice is their classic album though Mirrors comes in a close second for me, then would come Controller. Misery Signals to me were always one of the best Metalcore bands, so much atmosphere, melody and emotion comes exploding from all of their songs. Source Tags & Codes has quickly become a favorite album of mine, still have yet to dive into the bands other material though i will eventually. ~NOiSE~
I just love the ambiance of Controller, they've always had that in their sound but I feel like that's where it really reached the pinnacle. Absent Light feels much darker, like someone clawing their way from the bottom of the earth.

I dislike Protest the Hero, just way to much wank and really obnoxious vocals for me to get behind.

Susie
I pray for your safe return. i actually am enjoying the album, there will only be a safe return for me if i wash out my ears with Converge afterwards though admitedly i would actually love the album more if some of the synth sounds werent so cheesy and there was a bit less focus on the chugging, still not as redundant as most bands are within the chuggachugga death tech djent prog-core genre

Susie
Yea it's not a bad album but THEY'RE NO MISERY SIGNALS indeed but to be honest the repetitive chugging does get tolerable after a few tracks though the cheesy keyboard sounds dont really get off my nerves and i still think that Follow the Signs is a pretty weak track despite being able to like the album in its entirety. youre obsessed with Misery Signals now

I have no problem saying that they're definitely the best band in melodic metalcore. Meanwhile, August Burns Red is incredibly overrated.

Meanwhile, August Burns Red is incredibly overrated. nuh ABR aint overrated though i do agree that Misery Signals are miles better, i dont really like considering either bands Melodic Metalcore because i always felt that ABR take a little more from Tech Metal and i feel that Misery Signals are much more focused on creating atmosphere than melody. i always imagined Melodic Metalcore as stuff like Killswitch Engage, Atreyu and Trivium, stuff thats extremely focused on melodic elements and obviously takes from Melodic Death Metal. ~NOiSE~
To me ABR's first album is underrated while all the rest is overrated. I've tried and have good moments, but I feel like they really haven't done anything to progress. Your melodic metalcore description makes sense, I only said that because melody is a big part of both Misery Signals and ABR's sound. Misery Signals definitely has a lot of atmosphere and progressive elements though, both things I feel ABR lacks.

~NOiSE~
ive heard a few Shai Hulud tracks but havent bothered with any of their full albums, know where i should start? Order of releases: -Hearts Once Nourished With Hope and Compassion-That Within Blood Ill-Tempered-Misanthropy Pure -Reach Beyond the Sun That Within Blood Ill-Tempered or Reach Beyond the Sun are the best to start with. The former is considered their classic, but the latter is their most accessible while still keeping what people loved about the former. They're basically metalcore, but they have post-hardcore song structures and progressive tendencies. Virtually no breakdowns. Their first album Hearts Once Nourished With Hope and Compassion is a straight up hardcore album, and Misanthropy Pure is similar to the first two I mentioned but with increased focus on technicality and an overall more aggressive tone. Everything they've done is great, but the first two I mentioned are considered their best.
