That's a great album. "swamp Kittens" is one of my favorite cuts.

I think No Wings to Speak of might be their best work though.

imo

The Satellite Years > Magnetic North > A Types > No Wings To Speak Of > The Frailty of Words

No Wings To Speak Of is great and it has my favorite hopesfall song of all (The End of An Era) but i really prefer the stuff they put out after that EP. The Satellite Years is just a classic album all around and one of the best albums to come out of Post-Hardcore, im also one of the few people who was really into the more atmospheric Alternative Rock sound they went for on A Types and Magnetic North was able to take that sound from A Types and push it to a whole new level making it even better. i still cant get over what happened to them and that they had to split up because of it.

Mine would probably go

No Wings to Speak of > The Satellite Years > Magnetic North > The Frailty of Words > A Types

Of course I think they're all great, but A Types feels more like a transitional album to the sound that they perfected with Magnetic North, and it's their weakest for me.

No Wings to Speak of just baaaaarely edges out The Satellite Years to where they're probably even, but I like Doug Venable's screams more.

Frailty of Words is awesome but the spaciness that Hopesfall is known for isn't there, though the music is great.

thats why i really dont care much for The Frailty of Words, i really love hopesfall for their atmosphere and melody but The Frailty of Words was missing that, i dont think its a bad album but its the weakest for me because it was yet to show hopesfalls true colors and at its time wasnt as unique as No Wings To Speak Of and The Satellite Years, it just doesnt feel like a hopesfall record to me, of course i still like it but it really is the album that i listen to the least, i still think that there are a few really good tracks on it but most of it doesnt stick out and it doesnt feel as memorable as their later material.

I just order Mirrors, Controller and Absent Light. I'm quite sure to be getting them all.

Have you ever listened to their EP?

ive been meaning to but i havent yet, not even too sure what it sounds like but it doesnt have very much attention compared to the rest of their releases so im guessing that its probably not the same as their albums

I don't think I liked Make Them Suffer too much but I'll have to give them another go.

im only a fan of their newest album, their previous stuff is too Deathcore sounding for me. their new album i quite enjoy but i wont lie that it does feel average in some parts. i like the Symphonic elements and the great sensibility for emotion and melody, the breakdowns can feel a bit out of place in certain songs and might be redundant for some, but to me the pros outshine the cons and the album warrants quite a few listens from me.

I'll have to check out again. The album art looks like something Defeater would do.

yeah it does look like Defeater from the album artwork, i wouldnt be surprised if it the album artwork was done by the same guy, the album itself sounds nothing like Defeater though. i thought you didnt like Defeater.

I don't haha. I don't think they're awful but they don't do anything for me.

ah i almost thought you were implying that you did like them for a second there, anyways sorry if this is redundant but im in the middle of a thunderstorm and i just have to blast up Meshuggah again, its traditional for me

Thunderstorms = Meshuggah? No complaints here.

Listening to Celestial by Isis in the work truck.

indeed, Meshuggah perfectly match the raging fury of a thunderstorm

Celestial is a good album but its definitely my least favorite album by Isis

yeah sure its heavy but it lacks the substance of their later material, Celestial feels like the first draft of their sound while the stuff that came after it feels like the final draft.

never heard of Ananda before

I wouldn't say it lacks substance, it just conveys what it wants in a different way. I actually like it more than Wavering Radiant

Ananda is cool, they were a French metalcore group that did similar stuff to Knut and Botch, though they were only around until 2001.

i would say it does, whenever i listen to it i always feel like im listening to Isis before they fully realized their sound. Wavering Radiant was able to take the atmosphere of their prior material and utilize it in a melodic almost Prog-like way, i will say that In the Absence of Truth was much better as it was able to make that melodic prog sound but put more intensity to the sound and made some really intense and beautiful build-ups

Ananda sound okay

I know what you mean but Celestial has a certain abstract quality to it that I really like, kind of the same vibe I get from Knut albums. I think it has it's own atmosphere, which when combined with the crushing heaviness makes for a killer sound. Of course I love everything they've done, and I would place Oceanic and Panopticon before that one.

I'm gonna buy me some Ananda on Friday.

Voivod always rules.

For me it's been Poison the Well and Job for a Cowboy. Can't believe how good JFAB got with Sun Eater, it's like a different band.

i love Poison the Well though Tear From the Red is definitely my least favorite album by them, i still think its a great solid release but it doesnt live up to The Opposite of December and You Come Before You

Darkspace and Thantifaxath are what ive got going on today
