The Official Metal/Hardcore Thread

My favorite recent emo/post-hardcore record definitely goes to envy. I was hoping Pianos Become the Teeth would provide it but they did not really deliver for me at all. I'm going to miss the days of "Cripples Don't Shiver" and "Spine".

i still stand alone with Fake History being my favorite newer Post-Hardcore record, i didnt mind the recent PBTT record, it some nice feelsy jams like Repine and Old Jaw though i can most definitely understand why a lot of people would find it boring and not to their tastes, it feels like a pretty standard Post-Rock album with vocals thrown on top.

Since you liked Obliteration, I think you'd dig Morbus Chron a lot too. Old-school death metal feel but with psychedelic and progressive elements as well. It's really awesome.

i really like prog stuff so ill definitely get onto this the next time im in the mood for some Death Metal

been listening to The Human Abstract, really nice Protest the Hero style prog

Just imagine that Obliteration album having sex with Cynic and Atheist, you'll definitely dig it haha. Their first album is a more straightforward old-school sounding death metal album but it still rules.

I don't think I dug The Human Abstract too much but it's been awhile, I'll have to try them again.

i adore Cynic and i enjoy Obliteration though i listened to Athiest a while ago and i didnt really like them all that much.

if youre a fan of Protest the Hero and Sikth then id say give The Human Abstract another shot, if not then youre probably just gonna shrug your shoulders and fall asleep during the album

I don't really like Atheist either but they seemed like a reasonable comparison, album rules either way.

I'll take your word for it with The Human Abstract since I don't really like those other bands haha. Did you like The Kinison?

yeah that Kinison album rocked like hell

i can definitely see why you wouldnt like PtH or Sikth. PtH are very flashy sounding and Sikth were one of the pioneers of the whole djent scene, personally i think theyre on the same page as Meshuggah as one of the better bands to utilize that style.

I haven't even enjoyed Meshuggah too much lately to be honest. They do their thing and they do it well, but they've been doing that thing for awhile and it kind of feels stale now. They're good but not what I ever really want to listen to.

This, however...

eh i think that Meshuggah have been mixing up what they do well enough for me to still enjoy them, though ill admit that Koloss was quite stale, even my friend whos a major fan of djent said that he found it to be "annoying and too djenty for him"

never heard of Car Bomb though

obZen and Chaosphere are definitely cool.

Car Bomb is like Meshuggah with more grind influence and experimentation.

I forgot about Catch33, that's a good one too. Car Bomb is closer to metalcore but they have a lot in common with Meshuggah. Definitely not djent though.

It's probably my least favorite as well but I still find it excellent. I haven't listened to The Coming of Genocide yet though. Hopefully it rules.
