The Official Metal/Hardcore Thread

i dont mind clean production as long as the sound itself is interesting enough and i think its interesting how letlive and DGD are able to meld ideas of modern Post-Hardcore with the ideas of old school Post-Hardcore.

i only know of the concept for Pelagial which i thought was cool in how the songs get darker and heavier as the album goes on to represent the depth of the ocean, never knew about the concept of their other albums.

the Spitfire albums are all great for me, though The Dead Next Door was the album that stuck out to me the most, while Self-Help was the one that stuck out the least for me. still waiting for The Dead Next Door and Cult Fiction to come in the mail.

I'm mostly talking about Heliocentric and Anthropocentric, which are basically a "critique" of the Christian faith. Not really fair for me to lump the others I guess, I haven't heard the newest one and Fluxion and Aeolian were pretty sick.

yeah i dont care for snobby anti-christian bullshit either, even when the bands are being level headed about it, i still find it really preachy and even pretentious at sometimes. i havent read any of the lyrics in The Oceans songs so i wont say anything more than that.

Pelagial has a really great concept and is easily my favorite out of the records ive heard from them, too bad i cant find my copy of it. the album starts out moderate but as it goes further the songs get darker and heavier to mirror the different depths of the ocean, its a great concept that fits well with their progressive post-metal, and its interesting for a guy like me who took oceanography in grade 10, its also pretty sick how they named all the tracks off of the different levels of depth in the ocean.

I'm a big fan of water themes myself, so I felt motivated to listen again after you brought the band up. I'm listening to Fluxion and Aeolian again and they're sick, definitely the high point of their tenure in my opinion. The two I mentioned before are the ones I can't stand, but I haven't loved much they've done since Aeolian.

Speaking of water themes, In the Fishtank 14 is a great little collab/EP from ISIS and Aereogramme.

i havent heard Fluxion yet though i will get onto it. Aeolian is a great one and so is Pelagial, i like the sound on Heliocentric but after reading some of the lyrics ive found my love for that album to sink downwards, i try to ignore the concept as much as possible though it lingers in the back of my head whenever i turn on a song from that album.

havent heard that Isis with Aereogramme collab before, but i will get onto it since i do love Isis, but ive never listened to Aereogramme before.

I definitely think that Aeolian is the best with Fluxion being a close second, and together they're The Ocean's best double-album. I think it's the best dichotomy of heavy and melodic that they seem to acheive to a certain degree with every release. I'll have to listen to Precambrian again to remember how much I like it though.

I like their early stuff for being much heavier and featuring a bunch of different musicians and vocalists. I don't really dig what they've done after Precambrian minus Pelagial since I haven't given that one a proper listen yet.

I listened to that Secret Band album awhile back, I like it more than any other projects the musicians have been involved in but it's still not really my thing.

Pelagial is like a mix between their heavy and soft sides.

i kinda figured youd be more into Secret Band than DGD or A Lot Like Birds.

randomly felt in the mood for FATA during math class and its been a bit of time since ive listened to them

Gonna jam Pelagial right now.

Don't dig FATA as much as I used to but Holding a Wolf by the Ears is still a cool album.

Here's some Mitochondrion, figured you could use a refresher. I thought you would like them since you dig Portal, though I like Mitochondrion much more.

I'll just post both of their full-lengths haha.

busy with anime right now but ill give Mitocondrion a second shot tomorrow

i love Holding A Wolf By the Ears but Too Bad Youre Beautiful will always be my favorite of theirs, i love the heavy atmosphere in it and i feel like it has the most emotions

i wish i could find my copy of Pelagial, but its been missing since we moved.

Aww that sucks. Pelagial is cool but I don't think I like it as much as the older stuff. I'll have to jam the instrumental version as well.

Pelagial was my first album by The Ocean so maybe its just me since im more used to that sound as opposed to the older heavier stuff. the instrumental version isnt bad but i prefer it with the vocals

The "descending into the ocean" concept is interesting but I think I'd rather hear a band like Boris tackle something like that. I think some drone/ambiance could really make the atmosphere cold and crushing like the ocean abyss should be. I like Pelagial but it doesn't top their early stuff for me.

yeah i can get that youd find their older stuff more interesting. it would be really sick if Boris did a similar thing.

Trophy Scars have been on my plays a lot recently

also i gave Parasignosis a second shot, it was some sweet Death Metal ill give their other album a shot sometime soon too

I just think that The Ocean was a more interesting group when they had a huge rotating line-up and crazy number of vocalists instead of the permanent line-up they have now. I'm in love with everything up through Precambrian. Pelagial is very good though.

Glad you dug Mitochondrion, they're pretty rad and one of my favorite death metal bands. I'd say Archaeaeon is just as good as Parasignosis, just less refined and more off-the-wall.

I knew it wasn't actually you haha, I just thought it was funny. I would say yes, it's a sweet album. Heavy sludge/hardcore from Aaron Turner (guitar/vocals in ISIS and Old Man Gloom), Brian Cook (bassist for Botch, Russian Circles, These Arms are Snakes) and Nick Yacyshyn (drummer for Baptists).

Hey! Glad to see you around. Unfortunately though, that group is not really my style at all. However, I bought this freaking awesome album by Obliteration today. You should dig.

That Sumac album is pretty cool but not the best thing from any of the members in my opinion. Still worth checking out, has some sick jams.

Demilich rules, and be sure to check that other Mitochondrion album if you're jamming death metal!

This rules as well.
