The Official Metal/Hardcore Thread

It's a good list. I'll listen to some stuff from there I don't know (Extol/Hacride). Also, just to be clear, I adore oldschool melodeath like At the Gates, Amon Amarth, Amorphis. I just think newer bands have a tendency to overdo metalcore/djent influences.

Since you like Tech-Death, I much recommend newest Sarpanitum (https://willowtip.bandcamp.com/album/blessed-be-my-brothers)

ps: How do I link youtube videos like you do?

without the spaces

i fail to see any djent influences in Melodeath bands and as for Metalcore its more of the opposite. 99.9% of Melodeath/Metalcore bands are much closer to Metalcore and are considered as just Metalcore bands with melodeath influences. anyways love At the Gates but i never have been a fan of Amon Amarth in years.

Extol were at their best with Undeceived and The Blueprint Dives. As for Hacride ive only listened to Lazarus and a few tracks off of Amoeba, if youre a huge fan of Gojira and Meshuggah then youll be guaranteed to like Hacride.

Wow, I missed some stuff.

As far as death metal goes, here's my likes (melodeath included):

At the Gates

Cynic (only Focus really counts but it's great)

Dark Tranquillity

Death (from Human onward, don't dig their early stuff)

Demilich

Flourishing (has post-metal elements as well

Gorguts

Imperial Triumphant

In Flames

Job for a Cowboy (I only like Sun Eater)

Mitochondrion

Opeth (everything up to Damnation)

Pyrrhon

Timeghoul

and last but not least, Ulcerate.

Also, youtube links should automatically embed themselves. Make sure when you paste them, it says "http" and not "https"

im pretty sure that JFAC will stick with their sound on Sun Eater, and dammit i forgot to add Pyrrhon and Ulcerate to my list.

did you hear about TDWP signing back onto Rise? i hope theyll still continue on with their newest sound instead of going back to their older sound, but id be fine if that were to happen

I haven't paid them much attention to be honest. I stuck with them for awhile, but I got bored after listening to them a lot.

I'll probably listen to the next TDWP when it comes out, but I'm not sure what more the band can do to interest me. I don't dislike them, I just don't get much out of their music anymore...the next album could surprise me though.

Timeghoul is cool, they have an eerie sci-fi prog-death sound. The recordings are a bit rough though, they only ever released two demos but they're pretty great. Here's a link. Tracks are listed in the video description.

that Timeghoul stuff got me hooked right from the first second, ill definitely be getting onto the rest of it sometime soon

Good stuff! They were doing stuff right around the same time Demilich was I think.

cool list. I seem to be the only one that doesn't enjoy JfaC.

Also, looks like it's general here to like later Death. I personally love both their oldschool sound and their prog sound, my two favorite albums are Leprosy (early) and Symbolic (later). Sound of Perseverance or Human would be my least favorite (although there's that Painkiller cover in SoP that is on the same level as the original).

Also, since I'm from Brazeel, imma post some brazilian metal. Thrash Metal is a house specialty, but death metal scene here is one of the most brutal in the world, prob only loses to Indonesia. Power Metal is also stronk

I need my death metal to have weird quirks or else it doesn't really interest me. I mostly like really dischordant, chaotic stuff with lots of weird intervals and plenty of dissonance. I also like a really thick, dense atmosphere.

I don't enjoy any JFAC before their latest album Sun Eater, they really stepped up their game and I'd recommend giving it a shot if you haven't. It definitely surprised me.

My favorite Death album is Individual Thought Patterns, it's the perfect mix of tech-death and the prog sound they would expand on after that.

Thrash metal isn't really my thing except for Voivod and Vektor, but they are special cases.

some ZAO

Vektor is like Voivod's Killing Technology + black metal.

I just got a Zao shirt the other day for $1 on merchnow.com! It has the Awake? logo surrounded by a cool design.

470x470.jpg

I also have their shirt with The Fear Is What Keeps Us Here album arton the front, and the band name/album title on the back. It is cool.

I have heard of but never listened. I'll check it out soon!

the only release of his that ive listened to is Telepathic With the Diseased, apparently Xasthur himself refuses to talk about that album because he was at a darker time in his life. the lyrics from that album really makes me wonder what the hell was going on in his mind and around him at the time.
