hey Coral have you ever tried listening to Blut Aus Nord?

ill give that Thantifaxath album a listen sometime

got into the new Job for a Cowboy record, so much better than their older stuff

also really enjoyed listening to Deathspell Omega

I've dabbled in Blut Aus Nord before, it's hard with a band like them because of all the weird stuff they do but I do want to properly listen to their discography.

I agree that Sun Eater is great. The only Deathspell Omega I have are Paracletus and Fas – Ite, Maledicti, in Ignem Aeternum. Both really enjoyable though.

If you're digging Deathspell Omega, you'd like Thantifaxath, and probably Dodecahedron as well. .

ive only listened to Mort and i wanna get into Blut Aus Nord some more.

Sun Eater is sex to my ears, its just byoutiful really nice to see a band that i used to enjoy when i was 12 mature along with my tastes.

the only Deathspell Omega album ive listened to is Paracletus and i will definitely get into more of their stuff, these guys have the potential of becoming my favorite Black Metal band.

also Dodecahedron is one of the goofiest sounding names for a band that ive ever heard, like seriously it sounds like the name of some made up creature from a really weird obscure childrens movie

That's definitely the most unlistenable album they've put out. They experiment with a lot of different styles but they also have several albums of the traditional black metal style, and they come back to it every once in awhile.

Dodecahedron is basically what a twelve-sided die is haha, not that the name is really important. They're a good band though.

Bleeeeh the kind of post-hardcore I don't like. Closest thing I enjoy is The Fall of Troy's self-titled, and Hot Cross' last album has shades of that sound.

awww poor bby Coral needs all his post-hardcore to be raw n edgy top kek

TFOTs self-titled is good but Doppelganger is their masterpiece and Hot Cross are great too

YES I DO WHAT OF IT >:(

I don't mind Doppelganger but half the tracks are re-recorded versions of tracks from the self-titled, and I don't think the new songs are quite as good. And yes, I do prefer the more raw production~

production usually doesnt matter to me just as long as the music itself sounds good, though as a bass player i always do feel kinda offended when people pull off the whole "invisible bass" on production.

I just got a bass.  Gonna start recording my own stuff real soon and I'm definitely gonna try to keep it in the mix.  (Also I need to learn how to play bass properly.)

Different styles of music benefit in various ways from different types of production...it all depends on what the band wants, really. Ulver's Nattens Madrigal for example. Part of the appeal is in the super raw production quality. I'm not sure how good it'd be with good production. But then you have Deafheaven's Sunbather which has superb production, and the dreamy soundscapes really benefit from it.

I'd love to play in a band but it always falls through every time I try. It's hard to find dedicated persons.

and thats one of the reasons why i never focus on production there are reasons why certain bands use whatever production they use. bands like TFOT and Hot Cross were around back when Post-Hardcore was a much more raw genre, though bands like DGD, Stolas and Hail the Sun come from a more modern time when Post-Hardcore became much more cleaner sounding, if DGD came out in the early 2000s then theyd use a rawer style of production and sound just as great.

though if you want my opinion on DGDs production i feel like it works with them, its nice to see a band taking a sound and making it into something else, in my opinion its a creative modern take. i can see why some people would argue that its just making the sound more accessible though for me thats not the case. DGD switch up their formula a lot, sure when you boil it down its all just Prog Rock influenced Post-Hardcore but what they do with it is definitely well done. Downtown Battle Mountain was pretty poppy sounding then the self-titled showed off that poppy sound with bit more of a heavy edge and it had motherfucking Chino Moreno as a guest vocalist, Happiness is a bit more raw and probably the closest theyll ever come to TFOT or Hot Cross (besides the side project Secret Band), Downtown Battle Mountain II is basically when they let the pop influence slit its wrists into the music, its not bad but its undoubtedly the worst of all DGD albums and the least interesting, Acceptance Speech is a bit hard to pinpoint, but i guess it sort of incorporates a bit of everything that DGD has done, Carve shows off the heavier edge, Strawberry Swisher Pt. III shows off the poppier side, heck Demo Team shows off just how weird DGD can be.

in my opinion the clean production doesnt take away any of these things but rather takes all of this stuff and gives it a more standalone sound, without that clean production then DGD wouldnt have their signature sound, now if DGD decided to go down a purely raw trail then id be down for that as well as DGD still being clean, even though DGD would lose their signature sound theyd still have all the other stuff with them and i could understand why they would or wouldnt wanna pursue that road.

you should definitely learn to do the bass, its really fun, i enjoy it way more than lead guitar

not really, i prefer other bands of that style (Between the Buried and Me, Protest the Hero, The Human Abstract etc.) over them

I agree about BTBM, they're hands down my band of all time, but I really like The Safety Fire too. Do you like The Contortionist as well? i'm not usually a fan of chuggy chords, but Contortionist does it well enough that it doesn't really bother me.

i cant stand The Contortionist, the only chuggy/djent band i like is Meshuggah, though their recent album Koloss was a major disappointment (except for Demiurge, that track was killer)

Yeah I know what you mean about chuggy bands.I'm surprised I like The Contortionist, because I can't get into chugs really. I'm on the fence about Koloss, it wasn't fantastic but it wasn't that bad either imo.

i find Koloss to be annoying, nothing but helicopter drumming and headache-y riffs, there were a few decent moments but those got overshadowed by the flaws. Break Those Bones Whose Sinews Gave It Motion is easily one of the worst and most annoying Meshuggah songs. Demiurge is most definitely the best track that Meshuggah have put out, too bad its on their worst album.

I do quite like chuggy bands.  But at the same time they can be kinda headache inducing when they just vamp on the a low F#, E or even low C# for the whole thing.

Also I kind of wish bands in that style would make more repetitive songs, as weird as that sounds.  There's a growing trend in djent/prog bands who's songs are a bunch of riffs strung together.

Different strokes for different folks I suppose.

On a related (I guess) note, this is like a djent version of Coheed and Cambria and I leik it.
