Susie
Seizures is a metalcore band in the vein of Coalesce, Botch, and early Converge. Their latest album The Sanity Universal is badass. This, this is amazing. I have been on a black metal streak as of late and this is some of the best I've heard. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z3P2CydPVYkill get Onto Seizures at some point i remember trying out Spectral Lore back when i was a big Black Metal fan and i wasnt really all that huge on them Trying to listen to a bigger variety of bands. This is neat. Tech deathy type stuff. ever tried out Cynic or Gorguts?
~NOiSE~
Trying to listen to a bigger variety of bands. This is neat. Tech deathy type stuff. Ulcerate is my go-to choice for modern tech-death metal. Don't care for Abysmal Dawn much, unfortunately. I like a lot of weird, atonal, dischordant-sounding death metal. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qp0OdVAqZwo
Tentacruel
Can't say I have. Also, I guess I'm just not into the super atonal chaotic sounding stuff. I like pop music basically.
~NOiSE~
ill get Onto Seizures at some point i remember trying out Spectral Lore back when i was a big Black Metal fan and i wasnt really all that huge on them This album just came out near the end of 2014 I think, it's definitely a rewarding listen. Can't say I have. Also, I guess I'm just not into the super atonal chaotic sounding stuff. I like pop music basically. Gorguts is awesome and Cynic is cool as well, very different bands though. That's cool. I've just always been a fan of odd rhythms and and weird intervals. I remember freaking out the first time I listened to "The Drapery Falls" from Opeth's Blackwater Park, kind of blew my mind. I get kind of bored with normality, so I look for things that break the mold. All the weird avante-garde death and black metal bands are right up my alley. I like pop music basically.well theyre both pretty sick, Cynics first album has a very weird experimental Death Metal sound, while the later stuff is less Death Metal Gorguts were the band responsible for getting me into all of the s00pa heavy atonal stuff, Colored Sands is a nice starter and their best album to me

Demilich, Dodecahedron, Ulcerate, Gorguts, Deathspell Omega, Mitochondrion...I love it all. Oh yea, and Flourishing but they have some sick post-metal up in there as well. Tentacruel
Okay so Gorguts isn't nearly as br00ts as I thought. Also their album art doesn't make we want to scrub myself for an hour, which is what I assumed based on their name. Actually tasteful artwork too. Kind of more atonal than what I'm used to but I like Nile and it's kinda similar to that so I'm down. Cynic is really weird. Also I followed Spotify's recommended artists and found some cool bands and also wound up on Periphery somehow. Speaking of which I like their new album(s), the vocal melodies suit the singer's girly-ass voice more than earlier records.

Speaking of which I like their new album(s), the vocal melodies suit the singer's girly-ass voice more than earlier records. Depends on which Gorguts albums you listened to. Their first two albums Considered Dead and The Erosion of Sanity are more traditional old-school death metal with the later experimenting with more dissonant and atonal melodies. Then Obscura came out and completely re-wrote the book on how death metal should be written, it being the weirdest death metal album to have come out at the time. I can't describe it, you'd just have to hear it. From Wisdom to Hate and Colored Sands are basically refinements of what they started on Obscura. And yea, their name is quite misleading. They're one of my favorite death metal bands though. Cynic is definitely weird, but all of their material also differs from each other. Their first album Focus is a one-of-a-kind album that FOCUSes (lulz) on really fast, intricate guitar melodies backed by jazz-inspired drumming, with some odd clean vocals sung through a vocoder, though there is plenty of growling. Traced In Air came out fifteen years later and mostly continued down the same path, albeit with more diversity and a greater emphasis on clean vocals. The new one Kindly Bent to Free Us is basically a progressive rock album, but I personally think it sucks.

~NOiSE~
Holy s*** Obscura is just plain bizarre. Almost comical even. No kidding. Can you imagine what people must have thought when it came out in 1998? Enduring that album long enough for it to reveal its intricacies is incredibly rewarding though. sheet's expensive too, hard to find a copy of it for less than $70. My girlfriend helped me get it on ebay as a birthday present.
Susie
i enjoy Kindly Bent To Free Us, but its really underwhelming compared to Traced In Air and Focus, i still prefer Traced In Air out of all their albums with the Carbon-Based Anatomy EP coming in second place Obscura needed a second listen from me before i could really get into it, The Erosion of Sanity was the first Gorguts album i got into but it definitely took a long time for me to start to enjoy it, Colored Sands was a love at first listen for me and i really cant get into Considered Dead. love Gojirahttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n4UimRm_IL4

Tentacruel
Gojira is my jam. Heaviest band evah. (Give or take) Also, I don't really listen to black metal, but I can't help but find Vars adorable. You know, for a guy who kills people and burns down churches and is also a racist. Still adorbs. My vote for heaviest band evah is Mitochondrion. From the grim, murky depths of Canada. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2byx2VoHypc Varg really does not look like a black metal artist who burned churches and killed someone. Kinda surreal. Minato Sakai I see you lurking.
Susie
You'll be happy Moog, I found some Burzum at the record store today. So heavy in the slightly more literal sense. Like, black metal is aggressive, but doesn't sound very "heavy" to me.It's all semantics I guess. ~NOiSE~
Now, when I say Gojira is the heaviest, I do realize there are plenty of bands that are more aggressive sounding or extreme, I think Gojira's music, particularly that album, conveys a sense of weight more than a lot of metal. So heavy in the slightly more literal sense. Like, black metal is aggressive, but doesn't sound very "heavy" to me.It's all semantics I guess. I understood what you meant and Moog probably did too. I would never say Gojira isn't really freaking heavy, their riffs do feel really weighty. The only bands I think one-up it are groups like Portal, whose dense, murky production just make me feel like I'm being crushed by an enormous amount of pressure, like being at the bottom of the ocean surrounded by eldritch abominations. The Mitochondrion track I posted above has a similar effect for me. Gojira, particularly on From Mars to Sirius, I think conveys the size of the planets and whales that they mention in the songs, and the reverb added to the production gives it a distant feel, like I'm in spaaaaace. ~NOiSE~
I'm not really a fan of either band unfortunately =(I just ordered a CD bundle of every Darkspace album, quite stoked to get it.
