TREOS is pretty good but I wouldn't call myself a fan.

I found Panopticon's Social Disservices and Roads to the North today at the music store, along with Trap Them's new album Blissf***er. Pretty sweet buys~

yeah those are some pretty sweet buys, though i havent listened to either band in a long time

finally got around to the new Swans record, its pretty sick

Opeth are pretty much my favourite band. I'm also partial to BTBAM, Death and Mastodon. I'm more into the other side of prog metal though, bands like:

Animals as Leaders

Adagio

Ayreon

Star One

Beyond the Bridge

Devin Townsend

Dream Theater

Haken

Ne Obliviscaris

Pagan's Mind

Porcupine Tree

Riverside

Shadow Gallery

Spock's Beard

Storm Corrosion

Symphony X

Vanden Plas

i used to really like Dream Theatre though i find them to be bland nowadays, ive heard a few Porcupine Tree songs and i like what ive heard out of them. ive tried AAL a few times but they dont do much for me, i think that their sound is interesting but not interesting enough tobmake it worth going through a whole album. ive always heard people go on about Devin Townsend though i never have bothered with him.

if youre into Mastodon then you should go for Intronaut, The Ocean and Isis.

Considering Mastodon's my favorite band and I also like Opeth and Death, I think imma check some of these bands out.

For some reason I always thought BTBAM was a djent/core chugga chugga band.  Apparently not.  I guess that'll teach me to judge bands based on the name.

BtBaM did influence a lot of "djentcore" bands but theyre much closer to bands like Cynic and The Dillinger Escape Plan than all of the annoying crap that comes off of Sumerian records

Colors is their best release

I think I might have been confusing them with Bring Me the Horizon or something.

its all good, ive confused band names too

since were still going on about Prog Metal i wanna post a video from these guys, sort of like Opeth and Hacride but darker sounding

Yea Obsidian Kingdom is pretty cool. I'd like them more if they eased up on the clean vox though, and hopefully the next album won't be a really long song like the debut. Still a great album though.

Fans of proggy death metal should have no trouble loving this.

i dont mind extensive clean vocals, it doesnt really add or subtract anything for me, i also wouldnt mind if their next album all fit together as a whole song, i know that sort of thing has been done to death but i still do like it a lot when bands do it. As for Ulcerate i listened to Vermis a few days ago and i was into it

also managed to get into Quicksand a few weeks ago

I just think their atmosphere is best without the clean vocals I guess. I also like the single-song-album format in certain cases (Boris), but I think Obsidian Kingdom could put out a classic if they had like an hour's worth of awesome tracks instead of one long song. Just my opinion.

Also I have Quicksand's Slip and it's a cool album~

I just listened to this and it's awesome. Think if Gorguts threw in some sludgy post-metal stuff.

I'm giving this band a listen, they sound awesome.

I agree that Opeth's older stuff is overrated but I actually like all their stuff. I like the direction they went in and I'm into all the different styles of prog they covered in their years. Heritage is probably their least impressive release but Pale Communion is actually one of my favourites.

Also one of the best bands I've discovered recently is Haken and they don't get the attention they deserve.

I'm happy for you haha. I can't say that I've ever really liked this band though.

I'm buying this on Tuesday.

if it werent for Aiden i probably would of never been able to move onto Gothic Rock and other stuff that i love today. theyre a Gothic Post-Hardcore band whats not to love about that?

Altar of Plagues are cool, havent listened to them in a while though. White Tomb was always my favorite by them.

listened to a few more Voivod records

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=seFtjVmQypo

also have you ever tried out Extol, theyre one of the Solid State Records bands that ive seen in my recommendations, but im a bit iffy on trying them out because ive seen some of their albums get the djent label

and finally i spent all the rest of my Christmas money yesterday, got these albums:

Mudvayne - LD 50

Alkaline Trio - Remains (22 tracks just for 9.99$ bastards)

Hot Water Music - Caution

Brand New - Daisy

Brand New - The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me

The Blood Brothers - Burn Piano Island Burn

Underoath - Disambiguation

Mogwai - Rock Action

Refused - The Shape Of Punk to Come (3-Disc Deluxe set hell yeah)

Nice! I've got all of those except Mudvayne (don't really care for them), Alkaline Trio, and Blood Brothers.

Extol has nothing to do with djent. Burial and Undeceived are progressive black/death metal, Synergy is progressive thrash, The Blueprint Dives is I dunno how to describe, and Extol is kind of in the death/thrash realm as well.

A few of the members also played in a band called Mantric for a bit, which was pretty bleak-sounding prog metal.
