The Official Metal/Hardcore Thread

The remastered version has a couple of extra tracks, specifically a short acapella intro to "Bugaboo" called "Bugaboo Respira", and a re-recorded version of the song "Hydra" from their album Macabre, re-christened "Hydra -666-". The production quality is much clearer, to the point that listening to the original mix sounds kind of awful in comparison. I would check up and see which one you have!

Hacride is pretty cool, I own their album Lazarus. They're a progressive metal band with nods to post-metal as well as some poly-rhythmic elements like Meshuggah. Lazarus and the two albums before it are worth checking out but the new one didn't seem to do much for me, they got a new vocalist and I think he kinda sucks.

Haste the Day...that's nostalgic, I dug them a lot in high school. They were a decent metalcore band, their vocalist Jimmy Ryan had some intense, raspy growls that I loved until he was replaced with the more generic Stephen Keech. The guitarist often provided clean vocals. Here's a rundown of their albums:

Burning Bridges: Better than average metalcore album made good by unique vocals and good songwriting. Breakdowns a plenty.

When Everything Falls: Overall faster paced with better production, but more linear song structures (of the verse-chorus-verse-chorus variety). Still some great songs though.

Pressure the Hinges: First album with Stephen Keech. Has some of the best songwriting with heavier production, but Stephen isn't as good as Jimmy. Has my favorite Haste the Day song, "Chorus of Angels".

Dreamer: This album sucks.

Attack of the Wolf King: By this point, every member had been replaced except for the bassist, and Stephen Keech provides all harsh and clean vocals. Musically much more technical with more intricate guitar melodies and rhythms.

TL;DR, they're pretty good and you might like them. They just recently finished a fundraiser to make a new album featuring members from every era of the band, and both Jimmy and Stephen will be providing vocals.

Jimmy also did the vocals for a post-metal band called Trenches, on their only release The Tide Will Swallow Us Whole. For sure worth checking out.

i love Meshuggah a whole ton so i think ill do great with Hacride, Haste the Day dont really seem too bad either, ill give some of their tracks a listen tomorrow and ill probably download their albums over Christmas break

I don't listen to either band much these days but they're worth checking out. In other news, I'm picking up some Fugazi albums tomorrow~

Red Medicine and End Hits. I actually already have a copy of Red Medicine but whoever owned the album before me tore out half of the liner notes. And I've never listened to End Hits but I'm assuming it's good because Fugazi.

Red Medicine is a really cool album, probably their noisiest and weirdest album. ive never listened to End Hits either so i cant say much about it and i as well dont think that Fugazi could ever release a bad album, though Steady Diet was pretty weak in comparison with their other releases.

I think the noisiest Fugazi award goes to In on the Kill TakerSteady Diet will be their only full-length that I don't have, but I haven't listened to that one either.

id personally give In On the Kill Taker the award for most diverse Fugazi album, though i can see how that one might be their noisiest too. Steady Diet sounds just like any other Fugazi record, but it just doesnt have that sort of "umph" that Fugazi have, it really just doesnt deliver as hard as the rest of their discography does.

I think you might dig this Moog.

ive only heard the first two tracks and im already going downstairs to download it

also a bit back i got around to listening to Haste the Day and Hacride, really love Lazarus, it felt like Meshuggah and Gojira put together and im a fan of both bands. Haste the Day are good too, though honestly for a band thats as diverse as they are youd kinda expect them to be a bit more outside the box, but it seems like theyre playing whatever brand of Metalcore thats cool at the moment, which isnt neseccarily a bad thing since they do a good job at it, still love them but i wouldnt put them amongst the ranks of Norma Jean or Underoath like what some other people do.

Oh man, it hasn't even gotten good yet. It's free on their bandcamp I think.

Yea, Haste the Day is alright. They're mostly mentioned alongside Underoath and Norma Jean for being on SolidState, but I like those bands a lot more. You should check out Trenches too, Jimmy did vocals for them after he left Haste the Day.

yeah the album does get better, listening to it for a second time during this day, might end up going on a third listen sometime later today.

i think Haste the Day are a sweet band to listen to but their fallback is how they arent as interesting as the bands that they tend to get lumped with. Makes sense that theyd get compared to Underoath and Norma Jean just for being on SolidState, though i can see similarities in their sounds Haste the Day are much more typical sounding than both and arent nearly as enjoyable, but imo theyre worth keeping on my iPod for a while. ill get onto Trenches sometime later.

ever heard of Rx Bandits?

Drive Like Jehu rules, I'm inm love with Yank Crime.

I'm still riding the Dir en grey train though, been listening to a bunch of their old stuff. How much have you listened to by them? I know you only recently listened to some stuff other than Uroboros

i think i like Yank Crime better than the self-titled though i do think that Step On Chameleon and Caress are their best tracks

so far the only Dir En Grey albums ive listened to are Arche, Uroboros, Marrow of the Bone and Vulgar

Oh man, you haven't heard Dum Spiro Spero? It's definitely their heaviest, most intense album but still has the experimental nature of Uroboros. Withering to Death is awesome too, first one I ever heard. Listening to their albums in order is very interesting, hearing the evolution of their sound from album to album kind of blows my mind.
