Liked Wo Fat's previous album. Might check the new one. QOTSA slays no matter what and Joyce Manor's 2nd album was pretty shitty. Surprise how good the new song is. Also, they just sign with Epitaph.

Check out 1905. Cause nobody does.

eh i didnt think their second album was all that bad, but in comparison to their self-titled it was completely bleh, its nice to know that they signed onto Epitaph, that label knows their sheet, with the exception of awful bands like Falling In Reverse and Escape the Fate

and you are right on QOTSA always will be a killer band, ill probably get onto 1905 soon

Yeah, their debut was goddamn great. Second album was boring even without comparing it to their debut.

Not really. Epitaph's roster isn't that bad but it still features a lot of crappy acts aside from Falling In Reverse. Also, lol Escape The Fate left Epitaph a long time ago.

Deafheaven was amazing. The played all of Sunbather minus the interludes, and they encored with "Unrequited". George came onto the floor during "The Pecan Tree" and we screamed together.

i should rephrase what i said to Epitaph knew their sheet before, they had some really amazing 90s and early 2000s Punk revival bands and pretty good Metalcore ones too, nowadays there seems to be more awful ones than good ones but still the good history that Epitaph has had and the few better ones more recently really  do overcome the bad stuff they have today, at least for me. never knew about Escape the Fate leaving Epitaph, which is no surprise because i never bothered following what theyve done.

It really was awesome. And next week I'm seeing Agalloch and CityCop, Old Gray in August, and Brand New in October! I'm on a major show streak right now.

all of those bands are awesome (never heard of CityCop though). id probably go to more shows if there were more interesting bands that came around here.

Using that gif again would be redundant. Those are amazing bands except for Agalloch since I'm not too familiar with them.

Remembered that I posted Old Grey here and nobody cared at all. Good to know there's one now.

Agalloch is great, they're black metal at the core but they also have a very acoustic folk and post-rock vibe.

I don't remember Old Gray being posted but yea they're really cool. I ordered their FLCL shirt but it hasn't come in yet :(

You'd like CityCop Moog.

I wonder, am I the only one that doesn't like hardcore/post-hardcore/everything with core except Grindcore?

It's possible, though I'm sure there are some bands you could get into. I do like metalcore but most of the bands that probably come to mind when people say that would be terrible examples, good examples being bands like Converge, Botch, Knut, Norma Jean.

Most of us are also heavy into the screamo/emo scene from the 90s but there are a lot of modem bands that take influence from that scene as well.

One of my favorite screamo bands is Orchid.

there were a few people here before who werent into that stuff but they dont seem to post much at all anymore, Grindcore is pretty sweet, especially Pig Destroyer, Wormrot, Nasum, Nails, Trap Them and Discordance Axis

Sounds like Deafheaven/Oathbreaker or am I off the mark. I'll give it a try.

I personally not that into Rapcore so you're not the only one who doesn't like anything with a core.

Not quite. The black metal vibe mostly comes from the vocals and the atmosphere,  they don't even have any blast beats until the fourth album. They are largely atmospheric and have a lot of drawn out songs with repeating melodies and riffs, as well as lots of acoustic guitars. They're definitely amazing, but it's hard to recommend a starting album.

my first Agalloch album was The Mantle, but it was Ashes Against the Grain that made me fall in love with them

I'm right there with you. All of their albums have something about them that I love though.

Here's the rundown:

Pale Folklore - Black metal riffs and vocals mixed with acoustic dark folk and slight post-rock.

The Mantle - Similar to Pale Folklore but with more emphasis on acoustic guitars and longer songs.

Ashes Against the Grain - Similar song structures to the previous two albums but with a much greater emphasis on electric guitars and metal elements, production is slightly more polished. My personal favorite.

Marrow of the Spirit - Hearkens back to the more raw production of the first two albums. First Agalloch album to feature blastbeats, adding a more traditional black metal vibe to their usual sound. My second favorite album.

The Serpent & the Sphere - Picked this up today, a sort of culmination of their previous efforts. Not quite on par with their best but is a great album nonetheless.

They've also released a few EPs; The Grey (two cool remixed tracks from The Mantle) and The White (a mostly acoustic/experimental neofolk EP). Also of note is single-track EP Faustian Echoes, a 22-minute traditional black metal song in two sections. Another favorite of mine.

There are a few other releases, but I've listed all that I've listened to. This post was probably unnecessary but I like this band a lot and I'm very excited to see them next week.
