Dismal Euphony
I think hipsters like to use Deafheaven as a way to say they like black metal, and I can understand you not liking Sunbather because of how heavily it draws from those other influences. It's definitely a far cry from "trve" black metal, though I can easily see them being mentioned alongside groups like Bosse-de-nage and Wolves In the Throne Room. Genres aside, I'm certain Sunbather will go down as a classic metal album because of how fresh a sound it has and all the acclaim it's received, deserved acclaim in my opinion. It's probably my 2013 best. I would definitely mention them alongside Bosse-de-Nage, but mentioning them side-by-side with WITTR is a bit of a stretch. Two vastly different influences and takes on the genre. I'm not sure I'd call it a "fresh" sound, but I'd definitely consider it an instant classic due to the impact it has made, both positive and negative. Regardless of elitists' views on the album, there's no denying the fact that it has caught the attention of many people unfamiliar with the genre and subsequently guided them further into the scene. As for the best of 2013, Sunbather makes my list of honorable mentions, but doesn't make the top 10. Yeah I loved both of the tracks, sucks that I lost all of my BM albums on my broken laptop Since were on BM, I love these guyshttp://m.youtube.com/watch?v=fWshg65X2iU Damn, bro. I know that feel. I lost 12,000 songs a few years back in a fatal harddrive crash. :/ I absolutely love Skagos. Anarchic was on my top 10 for 2013. And I absolutely love that their name is a Song of Ice and Fire/Game of Thrones reference.

Roads to Judah is probably closer to what Wolves In the Throne Room does, but I think they're similar in that they both have a very atmospheric vibe and make use of post-rock song structures and shoegaze, though the Wolves is more subtle about it. Also, Wolves has a new album coming out soon, which will hopefully be awesome. Dismal, what do you think of Drudkh? I'm listening to Blood In Our Wells right now and I'm not sure if I like it yet. WITTR uses more post-rock influence in the vein of the classics like Godspeed You! Black Emperor and older Neurosis where Deafheaven brings forth a more profoundly shoegaze feel blended with newer-school post-rock. Shoegaze influences are few and far between in WITTR's discography. Musically speaking, I'm not sure if there's much of any shoegaze. Atmospherically speaking, it does evoke a very shoegaze-esque feeling. As for Drudkh, I find them to be great, but vastly overrated. Blood in Our Wells and Autumn Aurora were amazing albums, but they have a few albums that are very mediocre and lacking in memorability. I just got their 2014 split with Winterfylleth. I'll let you know how that is after I listen to it. I've got a lot on my plate currently (just got around 30 new albums today).

I only even mention them because their discography is so widely and blindly praised that I think some people forget that everything they've done isn't made of gold. I meant atmospherically, the reverb-soaked guitars on their first two albums really give me a shoegaze vibe and I love it. "Dio Artio" feels pretty shoegaze-y by itself as well. I know you like black/death metal but I'm not sure what else, and I personally love those two bands.

Neurosis is a band that I never got much into (though I should probably revisit them soon), and I've adored GY!BE for years now. F#A#infinity has been a favorite of mine since I was a teen. Blood in our Wells is among one of my fave BM albums, got any opinions on Lurker of Chalice? It's a classic for sure. As for Lurker of Chalice, I love them and I'd probably rank their only full-length album higher than any of Leviathan's albums, including The Ten Sub-Level of Suicide. But, Hate Meditation is by far my favorite of all of Wrest's projects.

Awesome, That's probably my favorite by them too though Slow Riot... is close. As for Neurosis, they've been doing awesome stuff for years but I've never listened to anything before Enemy of the Sun, which I should probably go do now. Through Silver and Blood might be a good place to start, but everyone has different opinions on their best is.

Susie
Since were on Post-Rock stuff anyone here listen to Have A Nice Life? Deathconciousness always gives me feels, theyre more shoegae-y sounding but still great, and my favorite GY!BE album is a tie between Lift Your Skinny Fists and F#A# Ill make sure to add Lurker of Chalice on my backlog

Tentacruel
DT is really good. I think I prefer In Flames overall, but I really appreciate DT's heaviness.
~NOiSE~
Dismal, have you ever listened to Deafheaven's demo? I know you preferred Roads to Judah to Sunbather and the demo is probably closer to that stylistically.

It was alright, but nothing memorable, sadly. Deathconciousness is apparently better from what ive heard but i cant be 100% on it, because ive never listened to their 2014 release. Personally i loved Deathconciousness, its a bit Drone-y so it does get repetitive at a lot of points, but still great. DT is really good. DT and In Flames are two of the very few Metal bands that i still listen to, still got that copy of Come Clarity sitting around in my room. Maybe I'll check out Deathconciousness some time. I've never really cared for In Flames, admittedly. Lunar Stain and Subterranean were pretty good, but that's all I really liked from them. DT, in my opinion, is far better. Though, when it comes to melodeath, I'll take Mors Principium Est and Insomnium over everyone.
