"Absorb Synchro monsters?" Justin repeated in shock, unable to do anything but watch as his Scrap Dragon was drawn into the Machine Emperor's chest. "So that's what he meant by superior to Synchros," he grumbled. That was...a huge setback, but it didn't mean the duel was over yet. He still had a trick or two up his sleeve...but without his Scrap Dragon...he clenched a fist in frustration.

--

Lily chuckled a little. "Ah, the same Signer I defeated," she mused. "Should be a good match to watch," she agreed. She identified the Dark Signer as the wielder of Uru's rival, Wiraqocha Rasca. "So, what will you do, Signer?" she mused.

"Now that Grannel has absorbed your Synchro Monster, its Attack will rise by Scrap Dragon's Attack. This will bring him up by 2800!" Sven declared, as Grannel went up to 9500 ATK. "Machine Emepror Grannel Infinity, direct attack! Grand Death Cannon!" Grannel began to charge a laser from the Attack part, and aimed it right at Justin.

-MEANWHILE-

"So you were the one who put him in such terrible condition..." Leuneth said quietly. "Well, if he loses this duel, then that'll be one less Signer to deal with... And another person for me to bring to the other side..." Leuneth said, also quietly. "Yes, Signer... What will
you do, when you've already failed once against this power..." Leuneth thought.

"9500?!" Justin gasped, then hastily clicked on the button that would trigger his facedown card. "Before you attack, I activate my facedown Double Cyclone! This card destroys one Spell or Trap on my side of the field and one on yours, and I choose that facedown card of yours," he said, pointing to Sven's facedown card, "As well as my remaining facedown!"

(Response?)

When my facedown Wild Cyclone is destroyed...I'll get to destroy one faceup card on the field, and eliminate his Grannel Infinity, not only protecting myself from damage, but assuring the removal of his threat, Justin thought.

"Very well, you've forced this upon yourself! Trap Activate, Journey Through Future!" Sven declared, as the card flipped up. "I am allowed to summon Grannel Carrier 3 to my field, and I am allowed to draw a card. However, I must reduce the attack of a Machine Emperor card I control to zero until the end of the turn." Sven said, as he drew a card and Grannel Carrier 3 appeared, returning Grannel to its original look, but with a small upgrade. "Because of this, my attack is meaningless." Sven said. When Justin's card flipped up, Sven chuckled. "Wild Cyclone? I activate the effect of Grannel Carrier 3. Once per turn, I can negate the destruction of a monster I control." Sven said, as the cyclone was fended off by a barrier.

"You just keep coming up with more and more counters, don't you?" Justin grumbled, as his combo had been rendered completely meaningless due to the combo by Sven. How am I going to beat his Grannel, with 9500 ATK if it absorbs Synchros? he thought desperately. He now had no cards on the field at all, and only a few in hand.

"Is it my turn, then?" he asked, betraying a note of impatience and frustration as he prepared to draw.

---

Ven chuckled, watching the duel through the viewpoint with great interest. Sven had to be enjoying himself, to be so completely shutting down his opponent's strategies, one card at a time. It was still the beginning of the duel, but Sven had the advantage, despite fewer lifepoints. One blow from Grannel would defeat Justin, whereas the Signer would have to fight harder to even score a blow of importance.

Sven chuckled slightly. "No, not quite yet. By releasing Grannel Carrier 3, I can Special Summon Grannel Carrier 5." Sven said, as the carrier piece flashed for a moment, and became buffer, and stronger (1300/1300). "Now, I end my turn." Sven said. "Just a while longer, and I will be rid of Stardust once and for all... Perhaps we will not require Aporia's assistance after all..." Sven thought. "And I'm sure that this is fueling the Circuit finely..." Sven thought. "I end my turn." Sven said.

Another 'Carrier'? Justin wondered. Just how many upgrades can that thing have?

"Then it's my turn!" he stated, drawing with vigor. "I set one monster in defense position, and set two cards. That'll do for this turn." He scowled internally. That was all he COULD do, really. His only hope to get around Sven's monsters was to find a way to defend himself until he could get his combos rolling. The loss of Scrap Dragon was almost crippling, both in terms of effect, and how it was helping his opponent become even stronger. But that didn't mean he was out of the duel yet.

(OOC: If you recall, Grannel Attack 3 doesn't have a confirmed effect.)

"My turn, Draw." Sven drew his card, and smiled. "By releasing Grannel Attack, I can summon Attack 3!" Sven said, as Grannel's arm was replaced by a larger fish-shaped arm, with a larger barrel. "Now, Grannel Attack 3's effect! I am allowed to treat every Synchro Monster equipped to this card as face-up monsters!" Sven said, as Scrap Dragon emerged from the depths of Grannel, still covered in the green tentacles. "I am also allowed to attack with them, and in addition, they will inflict piercing damage!" Sven said, as Scrap Dragon roared. "Go, you mindless piece of trash! Attack your former master!" Sven said, as Scrap Dragon swooped down at the face-down monster.

Justin blinked. "Just how many effects does that thing have?" he demanded aloud, as his facedown card flipped up, revealing a mechanical goblin. (Lvl 3, 0/500) As Scrap Dragon struck his monster, he grunted. "Scrap Goblin can't be destroyed in battle," he announced, even as a slight aura surrounded him, his lifepoints taking a heavy blow.

"No, no... If such a monster is indestructable, then I have no other use for it." Sven said. But a tuner? You know that Synchro Summonin is useless in the presence of a Machine Emperor. All the Synchro Monsters will do is lead you to your own demise." Sven said. "So, I will do you a favor and prevent such a crisis from occuring. But to do so, I will require the card you hold as a Signer." Sven said. "I must take Stardust Dragon from you." Sven said. "Now, I end my turn. You'd better find a way to better defend yourself. Otherwise, you'll take a final blow, and lose." Sven said. "Now... Go..." Sven said slowly.

"Then it's my turn!" Justin called, drawing. "I Special Summon Scrap Orthros!" (Lvl 4, 1700/1100) "However, it destroys one Scrap monster I control, like my Scrap Goblin!" The Goblin shimmered, and shattered into pixels. "Now I activate Scrap Goblin's effect, as well as the Scrap Searcher that's in my Graveyard! Scrap Searcher can be Special Summoned when one of my Scrap monsters is destroyed." (Lvl 1, 100/300)

"Scrap Goblin lets me add one Scrap Monster from my Graveyard if it is destroyed by a Scrap effect, so I choose my Scrap Chimera!" Justin smirked slightly. "Now I Summon Scrap Chimera!" (Lvl 4, 1700/500) "As you may recall, this monsters lets me Special Summon one Scrap Tuner from my Graveyard, and I choose my Scrap Mind Reader!" (Lvl 1, 0/0)

"I tune my level four Scrap Orthros, my level four Scrap Chimera, and my level one Scrap Searcher!" Justin announced. The three monsters broke into their respective stars, the tuner's becoming rings which the latter passed through. "Synchro Summon, Scrap Twin Dragon!" (Lvl 9, 3000/2200)

"I activate Scrap Twin Dragon's effect! Once per turn, I can choose one card I control, and two cards you control. My card gets destroyed and yours return to the hand! I choose my Scrap Mind Reader, and target...Scrap Dragon, and Machine Emperor Grannel Infinity!" he said, pointing at the center of the Machine Emperor.

"I activate the effect of Grannel Carrier 3! Once per turn, I may select a monster on my field. Then, I can prevent the selected monster's destruction once, and I can also keep it from being targeted!" Sven said. "Because of this, Scrap Twin Dragon will only return Scrap Dragon to your Extra Deck, only lowering Grannel's Attack by a fraction." Sven said.
(Response?)
Justin's card exploded, and Scrap Dragon emerged from Grannel, free from the tentacles this time. Now free from Grannel's control, it returned to Justin. "However, now I have a more powerful Synchro Monster to absorb! You saved one, but you will not save another!" Sven said. "Now continue your turn, so I may rid the world of those pathetic dragons of yours!" Sven said.

"I activate Scrap Searcher's effect! When my Mind Reader was destroyed, I Special Summon it to my field in Defense Position," he said, resummoning the mechanical winged-beast. (Lvl 1, 100/300) "And we'll just see about that. Scrap Twin Dragon, attack Grannel Top!" he ordered. The twin-headed monster growled and launched twin fireballs at the head of the Machine Emperor. "I can still inflict some damage and lower your Emperor's attack power even more," he reminded him.

"Damn... Without Scrap Dragon absorbed, I won't be able to fend off that attack. And he forced Grannel Carrier 5's effect on Grannel Infinity already... I can't do anythin about this attack, and Grannel will lose too much Attack with this blow." Sven though, as Grannel Top was destroyed. (LP: 4200) "Grannel's Attack still surpasses that of any other monster on the field. And..." Sven said. "...I still can absorb that Scrap Twin Dragon of yours." Sven said. "Don't think that you're safe by lowering my Life Points. I have plenty of defenses left, as well as many cards still to play." Sven said. "Now, is your turn over?" Sven asked.

"Not at all!" Justin said. "Since you seem so keen on absorbing my Synchros, I activate the Effect of Scrap Mind Reader! During my Main Phase 2, I can Special Summon it, but I destroy one Scrap monster I control, like Scrap Twin Dragon!" The large dragon exploded and in its place was a goggled mechanical creature. (Lvl 1, 0/0)

"However, by using Mind Reader's effect, it will be removed from play when it's removed from the field," Justin noted. "Turn End."

"Interesting... You would go so far as to destroy your own Synchro... And leave yourselve nearly defenseless..." Sven said. "Well, you've saved your Synchro Monster for now, but it will be mine soon enough." Sven said. "Draw." Sven chuckled again. "I summon The Birds of Dispair!" Sven said, as a mechanical bird appeared next to the headless Grannel. "Birds of Dispair's effect! I tribute him, as well as Grannel Guard, and summon both Grannel Top 3 and Grannel Guard 3!" Sven said, as Grannel Guard was replaced by an upgraded version, and Grannel got a new head.

Scrap Mind Reader blinked and shattered, the pieces falling into a convenient rift that appeared around it. Justin just nodded. "That's fine, I still have Scrap Searcher defending my Lifepoints, and plenty of cards to work with," he said. "I don't know what you're planning to do with those upgrades, but there's only so long you can hold off my attacks."

Grannel's ATK, just like his Lifepoints, have dropped to 4200. But his upgrades have better stats than the previous form, but that still makes them weak enough for me to damage, and I know just the way to do it, he thought, smiling a little.

"It's my turn!" he announced, drawing and looking at the card he drew. "Yes! I Tribute my Scrap Searcher and Summon my Scrap Golem!" (Lvl 5, 2300/1400) "Next, I activate Scrap Golem's effect, to Special Summon one level 4 or below Scrap from my Graveyard, and I choose my Scrap Goblin!" (Lvl 3, 0/500)

"I tune my level 3 Scrap Goblin with my level 5 Scrap Golem!" Golem faded into five shining stars as it passed through the three rings conjured by Goblin. "You wanted to see my Stardust, right? Synchro Summon! Stardust Dragon!" (Lvl 8, 2500/2000)

The white-scaled dragon appeared, roaring triumphantly, and Justin grinned. "Trap activate! Call of the Haunted! This lets me Special Summon one monster from my Graveyard, and I choose my Scrap Twin Dragon!" From the ground burst the two-headed mechanical dragon, looking as deadly as always. (Lvl 9, 3000/2200)

"You've mocked my use of Synchros, but this battle will show you that Synchros wont be shoved down so easily! Scrap Twin Dragon, attack Grannel Top 3!" Justin commanded.

Ven stared in numb shock at the viewpoint. "So...it seems Grannel's weakness has been exposed. Without Synchro monsters, it's just a powerful monster with four vulnerable targets that can weaken the main target. That's true with the other Emperors, but Grannel can't compensate with effects like Wisel and Skiel, because its effects revolve around neutering Synchro monsters..."

He chuckled to himself and leaned back in his chair. "It seems the duel isn't going well for Sven."

"I activate the effect of Grannel Carrier 5!" Sven said. "I select Grannel Top 3 as a target, and negate his destruction!" Sven declared. "Damn... This puts me behind Stardust Dragon, and I don't have too many Life Points remaining..."'Sven thought, as his Life Points dropped. (LP: 1700) "Hmph... Looks like I'll have to use that card..." Sven thought. "Or at least... I will next time..." Sven thought, as he prepared for Stardust's strike. "Go ahead. I've lost enough Life Points for you to destroy Grannel. All you have to do now is attack, and Grannel will fall." Sven said. "I applaud your resolve, even in the face of my Machine Emperor. But be warned; I am not the only one. There are others like me, with their own Machine Emperors. And we will destroy the Synchro Summom." Sven said.

Justin nodded. "We'll see," he said simply. "But if I attack Grannel Infinity, you'll still have 900 Lifepoints left. So instead...Stardust Dragon, attack Grannel Carrier 5!" That card has repeatedly stopped his monsters from being destroyed or targeted, so even if he survives, I can use Scrap Twin Dragon to fully dismantle his Emperor without interference. "Now, I activate my Graveyard Trap: Skill Successor! This card can be activated from the Graveyard during my Turn, and I choose one monster on my field and increase its ATK by 800! Stardust Dragon is my chosen monster, so its ATK rises by 800. High above, in the stands, Doctor Xavier Parado watched intently. As he did so, he analyzed his opponent's weaknesses and strengths, looking for anything peculiar. While he observed and made notes, a green spark floated through the air, followed by another, then another, and another. The old man smiled as he watched all of this unfold. Slowly, these sparks started to coalesce at one point. Green blots of electricity arced through the air towards the event, which expanded into a rather large sphere of green energy. The sphere erupted into a flash of green light. When the light receded, a young woman floated a few feet above the stands, which she corrected by floating down to the ground. She appeared to be in her early 20's with red and black hair resembling a mix between Yusei and Akiza Fudo's, a black sleeveless trenchcoat resembling Seto Kaiba's, a variant of Akiza's Duel Runner outfit, and a gold and emerald amulet around her neck.
"How's it going, Doc?" The woman asked.
"Rather well." Doctor Padora replied. "The Signers are trying, but they haven't been able to defeat the combined forces against them."
"How is your pet project?"
"Superb. She has easily dominated over her opponent."
"Do you think she could win?"
"Maybe. It would be an upset, though."
The woman looked around. "How is all of this possible? This place doesn't seem all that advanced for 2000 years in my future."
The Doctor grinned. "One of the great things about the human spirit is that it refuses to give up. It turns out that Ylaidus and the others were incorrect. There were more survivors. They rebuilt the planet, and turned it into what it is today."
The woman nodded. "So why is history repeating itself? Why is Yliaster, a group lost for 2000 years, suddenly active again?"
The Doctor shrugged. "Hard to say. But Yliaster is definitely key."
The woman turned to leave. "Maintain your position and keep observing."
The Doctor nods as she leaves in another green energy event.

Sven's Life Points dropped down to Zero. "Well, it seems that I've lost." Sven said to himself. "Nicely played, Signer." Sven then said to Justin. "You have defeated Grannel. However, this is only the first time." Sven said. "As I said. There are others like me, and they will, like I did, try to take away those Synchro Monsters of yours that you rely on so dearly." Sven said in disgust. "So now I take my leave. We shall meet again, and you will lose." Sven said. With that, he once again unsheathed his sword, cut open a rift, walked into it, and vanished, with the rift closing behind him. He reappeared at his throne. "It seems that I have discovered my own weakness." Sven said. "I'm sure you noticed it as well, Ven. And what of you, Ren? Have you anything to say?" Sven asked.

"My turn, draw!" Zeta declared. He drew his card. "I activate Polymerization, fusing together my Elemental Hero Sparkman and Elemental Hero Bladedge!" Zeta took a card from his hand and inserted it into the spell and trap zone, before taking two cards from his hand and putting them into the graveyard. "Alright! Come, Elemental Hero Plasma Vice!" And a lot of electricity appeared before a warrior appeared in a blue jumpsuit with golden armor (ATK 2600). "I now activate its effect! By discarding a card from my hand, I can destroy a monster in attack position on the field! Destroy his Blackwing monster!"
(Response? If not,)
"Now go, Plasma Vice, attack him directly!"
(Response? The following will happen no matter what you do)
"Now I set a monster, before throwing down a face-down, and end my turn!"

"When you activate the effect of Plasma Vice to destroy my Shura, I chain my I Icarus Attack!" Strata declared, as the first card flipped up. "I destroy my second face-down, as well as your Plasma Vice!" Strata said, as Shura vanished, and Plasma Vice amd Strata'ssecond of three face-downs were cloaked by an electrical aura. "Because of this, Plasma Vice won't be any threat to me! However, I still might have any face-downs he has to deal with... I can't use a Delta Crow - Anti Reverse without a Blackwing Monster... But maybe there's another way around that..." Strata thought. "Anything else you want to do?" Strata asked.

(^ Probably not. His card count is off. He has no hand. Poly + Sparkman + Bladedge + discard + set monster + f/d = 6)

Justin let out a sigh of relief at the duel's conclusion. He did still have a number of strategies at his disposal, but it was only from his monsters dealing so much damage that he had even gotten close to winning that duel. Machine Emperor Grannel...such a powerful monster, and that man had said others had cards just like it. What if Grannel wasn't the strongest one? Questions floated to the front of his mind, even moreso when the man disappeared into some sort of portal, but at the moment, he knew answers weren't coming.

"Phew...I'm going to need a rest," he muttered, and began walking again.

----

Ven nodded seriously. "To know our weaknesses is to formulate a new way to counter them. I noticed a weakness in my duel the other day, so I've prepared my deck to counter that flaw." He gazed into the viewpoint. "I've taken the liberty of examining other people in the tournament. The numbers are beginning to dwindle at last, and many duelists already have been defeated twice. There are a few people however, that have come to my attention, not just the Signers and Dark Signers."

"We ourselves have only one loss remaining, but we don't have to use it unless needed. To overcome Grannel without using a Synchro evolution is rather impressive, and to me it indicates that going up against that Signer ourselves won't work."

"Ugh, what kind of Space Station Duel Arena has a CLIFF?!" Akarui yelled out, trying to climb up a metal cliff. "KaibaCorp better repair this afterwards!!!!!!" Akarui muttered as he finally found his grip. "!!!" Akarui started to slip off. He fell off, falling, he remembered something about his Duel Disk. One of the talons shot out, a long secure rope attached to it. The talon nailing itself into the ground above the cliff. He started to be pulled up by it. Suddenly, he remembered something "!!!"

-Flashback-

As he fell was pushed back off the cliff, one of the cards in Akarui's deck glowed, as did his mark, the mark had changed along with the card. "Ugh." he stated as he tried to climb back up.

"!!! STARDUST DRAGON! NO!" Akarui yelled out.
