YCM was down half the day, everyday for me and many others. Now, it goes down for maybe ten-fifteen minutes once a month of so. And people want to go back to the old forum. YCM never ceases to amaze me. People act like the lag back then didn't do anything, when we still had that forum we couldn't do anything for half the day. We do not need to go back.
The forum was never that bad. I mean, my desktop is crap, and I've never had problems any where close to what your saying. And the forum has shut down for a few day here already, so who's to say that won't keep happening.

Also, my problem is because the mod tools are pure crap and make doing my job much more of a pain then it should be.
I actually agree with Layton, lag was way worse back then.
And for some odd reason, I could never log on YCM past midnight or 1 because it was so slow or the server was having issues.
inb4whyareyouupthatlate-I'm bored on late summer nights, that's why >__>

It was worse, but I never found it to be that large a problem.
Assuming you live in the US that time should be when YCM is hitting it's low point for the day, so I don't understand why that would happen then. It's not that I don't beleive you, but I just find it odd for you to have those peoblems at that time.

Also, I know little about running a forum, but wouldn't getting a better server help solve lag problems?

IMO easy fix for the second point is just go back to the old forum. It might be because it was what we started with, but it work fine side from the lag (something we still get here). Sure we got some nice things out of the move, but I don't think many people use the (who is going to tell people on Face Book that their on YCM?) or make things worse (status). Plus as said the mods tools are just crap.
I like this new forum because for me their is no lag on here like it was on Mybb and the fact that people are mad about this site being offline for half a day, it means that ether YCMaker and Fallin Pizza or IBP doing work. Or their computers are causing the lag.

I dunno either, but I think my real-life friend had the same problem.
But in all honesty, I find this site more efficient than MyBB because
a. My Content. It's much easier keeping track of all threads you're active in in one spot. And no e-mails flooding from subscribed threads either.
b. ...Server, I say this because aside from a few times at first, the site has ran smoothly and I had no lag problems plaguing me like they used to.
c. I know people hate how YCM has turned to Facebook with profiles and their statuses, but IMO, it's better because profiles actually mean something now in terms of surfing and increases social interaction since you can post on their "walls" and converse with them without using PMs. And if you just want to ask them a quick question, then it's good for that too. And the statuses, most may be stupid, but they're also a good medium for interaction, and I've seen meaningful discussions take place on them (check Sakura Haruno's current one for example). Also, it's helpful if you need a question answered by somebody (when I do that on Facebook, no one answers really) in case it's nerdy or whatever. One time, I asked people for the number of shoes they owned for a psychology project and got around 20 replies, a good amount that I needed for data.

Our perspectives may differ because you're (Flame) a mod and moderators seem to have crappy tools for their job. Then maybe what we should strive for is more efficiency so you guys can do your job better. If most of you get together and discuss it with YCMaker or Pizza, I'm sure they'd understand and help out if most of their Moderating Team requests it.

So you are willing to go through a bunch of effort to change forum hosts... because of lag? Even though everything else has become significantly worse? Also, I doubt that MyBB would have never fixed the lag problem. It would have eventually went away, but now we are essentially stuck with this forum. <___<
I try and do that with CC but the other staff shoot me down every time v.v... Or people just don't pass all marks and make it useless. Tried, ineffective.

And "Spiritual Locking" is just meh, we have member control now. Stop them, warn people and hush up. =/ Modding outside your section requires severe reasoning anyway... Just posting it is wtf.
Spiritual locking never worked anyways. :/

Eh, there are a ton of kinks in my system, but it at least seems viable on the surface.

Been a while since I was here. Since I don't want to read though all of this, what are we talking about?

Ok, I'm not going to break my own rules. After reading over the last page it seems to be that we still want more mods, or at least more helpers, other things that should be fixed around the forum, and that FP and YCMaker are bros.

For the first getting helpers won't do much. They really would only be able to report threads and say "ok guys, let this thread die." IMO it won't solve much of anything since they wouldn't be able to do much. Dark's idea is kind of how we already go about picking mods, but it might help to find people that would be good fits for the job.

IMO easy fix for the second point is just go back to the old forum. It might be because it was what we started with, but it work fine side from the lag (something we still get here). Yea, it's fun to learn tivia like that. Also, since I think I saw something about FP being made full admin I agree with this fully.

November 4: 156 Friends on Facebook

"hai facebuk frands im on ycm its a yugioh forum"

November 5: 17 Friends on Facebook

It seems like an efficient way to get rid of a bunch of useless friends from your Facebook. Or something, is getting rid of friends even useful? Whatever.

It's too late to go back. We should have never changed forum hosts. :/

I think it's IBP doing work. I remember something about it being on the mod forum, but I can't find it.

a. I hate the my content. MyBB did the same things when you would check your last posts, only you started from your last post, not the last post in the thread. Also if a thread is over a year old it doesn't show up. Unsubscribe maybe? ITBQH I never found it to be that useful in the first place.
b. I don't remember it being that bad on the old forum. And again, wouldn't a new server fix most of the lag problems?
c. Yea it's nice, but pms get the same job done. Only you don't let every one see them which is better IMO. We can't mod the status bar so a lot can be done to take advantage of that. Couldn't you have made a random poll for that kind of thing? Odds are you would have gotten even more people.

Again, the things we got are nice, but in the end they don't add much that couldn't be done already. The cost though is
a status system we can't mod
warn levels that don't go down
a poor pm system (the glitch is gone, but it took a few months to fix it, and we had already had a thread about in the mod forum from 2 months ago) but we still don't have as many options as we did
the rep system is some how worse
crap mod tools
can't easily find threads from over a year old

I still say the delete a thread function in My Contacts needs to be brought back
I agree on this. But I think that YCM needs Topic Drafts back as well. It's a pain on the ass using wordpad and whatnot.
Didn't know what we were talking about, so I thought I would just throw that out in the blue for some odd reason.

No FTW, not actually deleting a thread you created- I personally think Mods should be in charge of that. I mean how you used to delete them in the OLD My Contacts. If you posted in a thread and then didn't want to see anymore updates you could just delete your subscription to it and you'd never get another update on who just posted. Here even if you unwatch it . . . you STILL get updates on that. So I want the old system for My Contents back very badly.

Why would ever rep someone for a single post?
I've done it 10-20 times in the 1v1 forum.
And people legitimately do not post after you in fear of being warned. ...wow.

warn levels that don't go down

AHAHAHAHA.

No wonder I've had that 10% for like three months now. =)

So if you get to a 100%, is that perma-ban?

Look at Armadilloz's posts. He usually has something hysterical and/or awesome in an obscure way that he found in the dark corners of the internet.

Nope... 100% Warning just means we can do what we want with your account. Including changing your Log-In Name and making your Display Name Separate. You name it...

I don't really bother with it though, if you broke a rule you'll get what's handed to you.

Just some minor clarifications that might not be necessary at this point:

A second General Mod is a touchy subject; I can handle the Main Section, but C&O is an absolute hellhole where enforcing rules is impossible simply because the rate at which they are broken is 10 times higher the one I can issue warnings at. The section itself was designed in such a way that it pretty much legalizes spam in a way similar to IM chat. A similar problem exists in Games, but since people only go there specifically to play along, it won't annoy members looking for actual discussion.

I am, however, extremely reluctant to suggest somebody for the job. Not because I see no potential candidates (far from it), but because they'd end up doing the same thing I'm doing - modding every other section of General while being subdued by the dark mass of entropy that is C&O. I don't think it's necessary we have a second mod for the main section at the moment, but a major overhaul to C&O is most definitely in order. Either I grow a pair and gather major heat with new rules or somebody will have to be specifically designated to do that for me. :P
I don't oppose a second General mod at all, but if one is appointed, I'll definitely request teamwork to finally sort out C&O properly.

Also, can't recall who said it, but The MarbleZone does not lurk. Seriously though, if you have a proposition or an idea for a game/project that you think belongs in general, don't be afraid to ask or assume I'll flat-out refuse it... Feel free to PM me, I try to be reasonable when it comes to permissions. ;)

EDIT: About the IPBoard change thing, the way I see it, regular members got more tools and mods got less. It's basically that. Current mod tools are much more limited than before (see the 100% Warning Level issue, for one), and status feeds and stuff have only brought us more work. If it was up to us mods (and hum, it should be), most of us would want nothing more than to change back. We realize however, that it'd upset many members who enjoy the new features.

1.) Go to Armadilloz profile.
2.) Go to his Reputation page.
3.) Hit "Give Reputation" (+1).
4.) Type, "Haha, Armadilloz. I really do love those witty posts you make. You liven up the entire forum with those. =P"
5.) ???
6.) PROFIT.

I actually think the old rep system was flayed, as you could give a rep for any reason- also neg rep the same.
< implying I can't just pick a random post to rep/neg for any reason

But yeah, the old one made the post count appear more.

And it was flashy~
