Nexus, welcome to the club! Interesting argument guys, but there are 2 things I'd like to point out:

1. Freddy Krueger is considered a boogeyman

2. Every culture has its own version of a boogeyman, suggesting that there may and most likely is truth behind it (even if things have been twisted behind it). In America, the boogeyman is hideous creature that hides in closets, but elsewhere a boogeyman is a creature of the night.

My last say on the bogeyman/Freddy topic

-Bogeyman

A bogeyman (also spelt bogieman, boogeyman or boogieman) is a monstrous imaginary figure used in threatening children. This legendary monster has no specific appearance, and conceptions of the monster can vary drastically even from household to household within the same community; in many cases, he simply has no set appearance in the mind of a child, usually in dreams but is just an amorphous embodiment of terror. Bogeyman can be used metaphorically to denote a person or thing of which someone has an irrational fear. Parents often say that if their child is naughty, the bogeyman will get them, in an effort to make them behave. The bogeyman legend may originate from Scotland, where such creatures are sometimes called bogles, boggarts, boggers, bugaboos or bugbears.

Bogeyman tales vary by region. In some places, the bogeyman is male; in others, female, and in others, both. In some Midwestern states of the USA, the bogeyman scratches at the window. In the Pacific Northwest, he may manifest in "green fog". In other places, he hides or appears from under the bed or in the closet and tickles children when they go to sleep at night but all of them occurs within the children's dream. It is said that a wart can be transmitted to someone by the bogeyman. Bogeymen may be said to target a specific mischief – for instance, a bogeyman that punishes children who suck their thumbs – or general misbehaviour.

-Freddy Krueger

Freddy was born in 1951 the son of a nun and any one of a hundred maniacs who raped her. His childhood was filled with the torture and killing of animals and being teased by other children. He was often beaten at home by his stepfather, until he was older and could fight back. He grew up without love or compassion and instead learned only ridicule and torment. Never knowing anything else, he became troubled adult. Springwood was not very kind to Freddy. Even as an adult he was tormented by everyone in town, except the children. He loved to play with the children, but the town didn't approve. They despised him and taunted him with the details of his birth. "Son of hundred maniacs" was only one of many things they tormented Freddy with. They thought he would be no better than whichever insane man was his father. He found no rest in the town he called home.

Eventually the town decided to rid themselves of Freddy Krueger. They gathered a huge mob of people and started to burn his house. He couldn't leave or the mob outside would have killed him. He was angry and scared and the townspeople were waiting for him to die.Demons came to Freddy and offered him a second chance. He would not live in this world with those that tormented him. He would be able to live in a dream world where he could play with the children. He can enter the dreams of teenagers and play with them without interference from the cruel adults. Freddy can alter his appearance in the dream world into anything wants. This created a whole new array of games for him and the children to play. His entire body was horribly burned during that fire, and the scars stayed with him even in this new world. He wears his dirty brown snap-brim fedora hat, a red and green striped sweater, brown pants, black boots and a glove on his right hand that he made himself.

And I love the title of Freddy's Nightmare as the movie's name...don't know why but maybe because it just has that ring to it.

Anyway, I think for the topic, we should discuss about the BEST HORROR movie in your opinion and talk about what's your TOP 10 HORROR movie(slasher, Splatter, Exploitation, Gialo or Horror related movies like Hell Boy also counts)

@Nexus, No problem.

@Y2J, I see you've done your research. Yes, that is all true. The term boogeyman actually encompasses a lot of things and, like I said before, is different for each culture.

Also, I agree, a top 10 Horror film countdown for each member would be sweet. I'll give mine in a bit, after I think about it.
