Quiksilver
>>>Link to OoC Thread<<< Fear. It's the only thing you can feel. An overpowering feeling to cut and run, to hide, to scamper away, to do anything to get away from the horrors that confront you. It's a queer feeling, fear, one that can overpower reason, faith, confidence, among others, with seemingly no effort whatsoever. Felix Alesius felt this feeling now, as he stared up into the beast, who was, in turn staring at him. The beast was a bear, one of nearly a thousand pounds and cloaked in some sort of rusty armor, a ferocious expression layered on his face that made the normally swaggering Felix want to quiver in fear and submit to the bear's authority. But Felix would not do such a thing- his pride was too great. And so, since neither would back down, the art of battle was being forced to commence. In a second, this room- this oh-so-clean room- would be filled with the blood of the loser and the victory cries of the winner. But not yet. There was a ritual that needed to be attended to first. It was a ritual imprinted on the brains of both primal and civilized creatures everywhere, a ritual used nearly everyday but rarely acknowledged. It was the ritual of intimidation, to scare the opponent into almost letting you win. It was a ritual taking place right now. Unfortunately for Felix, it's a little hard to intimidate a creature that outweighs and outmatches you three to one. "RAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWWRRRRR!" The beast roared all of a sudden, and the ritual was over. Battle was now. Dropping to all fours in the screech of colliding meta armor, the beast hurled itself at Felix. Now, there is one thing that can overpower fear- and sometimes, even it cannot do that. Instinct, instinct formed from half a years' worth of training, was the thing that saved Felix. It was the thing that made him bring up his arm and press the button located in the center of his palm that activated the Arc Caster. And then-it was all over. The bear was not attacking. In fact, it was not doing anything at all- It hovered in midair like some grotesque living puppet, held by invisible string. Felix stared down at the metal exoskeleton-like glove that was the Arc Caster is wonder. One though gradually came to his head; It works!!! And then, emotion finally fought through the lingering fear, and Felix laughed and shouted in joy, "It works! The Arc Caster works!!!" And then, the bear dropped it's ferocious expression and replaced it with a coolly smile, and from the lips it implanted this smile on, it said, "And you though it wouldn't." The bear's words broke through Felix's ecstasy, and Felix saw that he was still holding up the bear with the Arc Caster's powers. "Sorry, Iorek!" Felix said, and he pressed the Arc Caster's button once more. Iorek Byrnison, the bear who had been assigned Felix's MusE partner and had eventually once of his closest friends, dropped to the floor, landing on the floor on all fours, nimbly, like a albino, overgrown cat- one that could rip you into shreds in seconds, that is to say. He stood up onto his haunches and regarded Felix was a sort of amused intelligence. "You just had to test out the Arc Caster, didn't you, Felix? Can't trust these MusE guys as far as you can throw them, eh?" "No," Felix replied, a little defensively. "It's just I like to, you know, double-check things." This elicited a raucous chuckle from the bear. "Oh yes, that's it." Then the bear gestured to the door, set at the far end of the room. "C'mon, we gotta go meet the rest of the team." His words brought tingling excitement to Felix's limbs. It had only been two hours ago that MusE had called him to MusE HQ, New York, and Felix knew what that meant. He was finally going to meet the rest of the team, and... Journey into another world.
Makο
"Grunt, get back here!" A small Creature came running in, with a triangular tank-of sorts on its back. It was holding a Metallic Glove, the Arc-Castor. Its eyes were closed, and it looked like it was enjoying itself. It opened its eyes, and came to a dead stop. The Castor dropped to the floor. The Grunt was staring face-to-face with Iorek. He made two baby steps back, but then turned into a sprint in the other direction, flailing his arms in the air. He bumped into someone standing in the doorway while trying to escape, though. "Dang it, Grunt, stop taking my Castor! As much as I hate the thing, I need it." Jacob said, grabbing it by the CO[sup]2[/sup] tank. He looked up, and saw Felix and his partner standing in the room. He straightened his rather ruffled jacket and strolled in. "Hey. I'm Jacob. And this here is Grunt." He said, holding his hand out, to shake. (OOC: For None Halo Fans, here are a few inclosed pics on what Grunt would look like, front and back. Magnet Soldier
"I dont trust it either, to be honest." A voice said, coming from a corner of the room. "Too.....teccylogocal." The voice said, with a thick accent. Another voice laughed, and the owner came out from the corridor. "It's technological, Roland. And even your world had it." The owner, a young English man. "Though you didn't have much, did ya." The English guy said, turning to face Felix and Jacob. The man chuckled again, a large grin lightening up his face. "Name's David Smith, or Dave if you like. Oh and that's Roland Deschain of Gilead, in Mid-World. He dont get along well with people." David chuckled again, pointing in turn to himself and to the Cowboy-like man in the corner. Twin revolvers dropped from each of their belts, and there was an experienced look on both of them, more on Rolands. "He went for nearly a thousand years without a single companion. A thousand years! I couldn't believe it 'till I realised time was gettin' sloppy. It's stopped for a bit now though." David said, trying pathetically to make small talk. All his attention was drawn to the giant Polar Bear beside Felix though, the one in armor. "I, for one, dont mind the Casters. And after that performance, I have no doubt they work. However, I trust the revolvers more. I know for a fact they work."
Quiksilver
"Revolvers, eh? Don't have anything like that in my world." The bear said in a deep bass voice. "Closest thing we got is a rifle, and that is way bigger than that puny thing you have there. We outclass you in other ways though." Iorek's jaw pulled back into a toothy grin, just to show he was joking. As he was taking to Roland and David, Felix had turned to Jacob and Grunt. "I'm Felix, and this is Iorek," Felix introduced them with a nice, easy smile. "It's good to meet you, Grunt. Now give that back to Jacob, please. We're all going to need them for this trip." He grinned and formed a gun with his hand, playfully shooting at imaginary opponents.
Makο
"Well, now isn't that interesting. I trust my .45 more than my own two feet. Now, its those Arc Castors that I don't like." Jacob said, drawing his camo-coated pistol. He stared at its gleam. Perfectly polished, not a mark or scratch in sight. He had taken perfect care of it ever since he had received it. never abused, always kept in a safe place. It was the most valuable thing he owned. Slowly putting it back, he looked down at Grunt, who was staring oh so cautiously at Iorek from behind Jacob. Holding his Fuel Rod. Jacob snatched it from his hands. "Hey, don't go aiming deadly weaponry at them. They are our friends. We'll need them later on." Jacob explained, sighing afterward. Grunt never took his stare off of the giant polar bear, and slowly began to draw his Needler. Jacob put his hand to his face. "Put that thing away! Don't make me take all of your weapons." He said, scolding, "Now, go make friends with that Polar Bear." Grunt made a small, high pitched noise as Jacob pushed him over towards Iorek. Obviously not wanting to. He has to make friends eventually.....Does Grunt have a name? Jacob thought to himself. Some things will never be answered. (FRIK! Ninja'd! This was supposed to go after Magnet Soldier - -")
Magnet Soldier
"Trust me, Iorek was it?" David asked, looking towards the bear. "Anyway, trust me, these guns are much better than rifles." As if to prove his point, David drew his gun with a blurring speed, and only Roland and Iorek's eyes could watch it properly. "Rifles cant be drawn as fast, and these guns are much stronger. Aint they Roland?" David shouted over his shoulder towards the Gunslinger. Roland nodded, his two fingered hand tapping the butt of his gun. He didn't say anything, but his expression said it all, that David was right. "Anyway," David started again, annoyed by Rolands silence. "I'd trust these revolvers with my life, just as Roland does his god-be-damned Ka. That's Destiny, in our words, but it has many other meanings." David was aware he was rambling now, and quietened instantly. He holstered the gun quickly as well, saying one last thing. "Oh, and they may look old, but age can be decieving."
Hydra of Ages
Alexander opened the door to the room, unblinking as he noticed the rather large polar bear in the room and a small, somewhat strange-seeming creature that was either mechanical or wore a rather thick suit. He adjusted his dark purple tie with one hand, a somewhat difficult maneuver since he was holding a housecat to his chest with the other. The ginger tabby let out a slight meow, then wiggled in his arms. He chuckled briefly and let her fall to the ground, where she landed gracefully before noticing the others in the room. She looked at them, her eyes gleaming in a feline manner, before she stalked off to nose them more closely. Meanwhile, the lawyer was busy brushing off the cat hair from his suit. His partner didn't shed, but cat hair got everywhere when you weren't being careful; he was just grateful the bright purple suit was easy to clean. He looked out to his fellow humans and gave them a rather wide smile. "You're the rest of the team, then?" he asked in a tone indicating he didn't really need a response. He glanced downward at his left hand, and the metallic glove-like instrument attached to it, and flexed briefly. The Arc Caster fit nicely. It didn't feel like a weapon, and he was rather glad of that. He'd never really liked guns, even the one he carried around; he almost felt guilty just touching them. The Arc Caster, on the other hand, had other purposes than taking lives; he could carry it around with the reasonably deluded assurance he might not need to take a life using it. Still, that would be lying to himself. He stifled a sigh, as Bast proceeded to weave through the legs of the others, getting cat hair on their pants. Makο
Grunt, while struggling to stay away from the bear, noticed the entrance of the tabby, and became interested, straying his stare away from Iorek. He crept closer, still keeping is distance. With out another noise, he went back to Jacob and gave him a rather...uncomfortable...stare. Jacob knew exactly what he wanted. "Ok, I'll give it back, but only if you stop threatening our teammates." Jacob said, retrieving the Fuel Rod. He handed it back to Grunt, who then proceeded to load a small stack of about five green strips into it. He slung it back over his back, satisfied by its comforting weight. He turned back to the 2 animals in the room, staring at 1 before alternating to the other. Jacob sighed. "Sorry about him. He has never trusted someone he doesn't know, at least not immediately. It will take a little while for him to warm up." Jacob said in an apologetic way. His eyes widened suddenly. "One last thing. Don't make any sudden moves towards him, or you are likely to get a Plasma Burn, a needle stuck in your skin, or get blown to pieces. In other words...be careful about what you do around him." He checked his watch after putting his Arc Castor on. "So when are we supposed to head out? And to where?"
