Dylan stepped into the room with the other two, seeing another person around his rank in the room. He saw the three in positions of power, and his confidence quailed a little. He reasoned that he probably should show a straight face and act attentive. "Dylan reporting, sirs!" As he said this, his glance wandered over his commanding officers. Kaiba was the most imposing of the three, and he didn't look to be in the best mood. Pegasus was the next one to meet his gaze, and he suddenly felt a bit calmer. He then saw Damian. Something about the guy just... seemed off. He suddenly noticed that he was staring (for what seemed like more than the three seconds it was), and stood to attention again.

"Since it seems like everyone's here, you can come get your cards if you haven't already." Kiba grumbled a bit sorting out two sets of three cards. "Dylan..." He pushed three cards to the edge of the table. "To all of you: We're limited for resources, so while it might seem like a good idea to get a monster with a "Monster Reborn", if it costs you a handful of cards to do it, then it was a waste."

"Next is Zeke Walters." Kiba continued. "I hand-picked you for this assignment because of your connection to machines. This card, System Down, will render you helpless if you use it...but since we're raiding a computer maintenance station, I don't want any surprises." He pushed the other three cards to the edge of the table.

"Leaving finally our lovely miss Minami." Damian smiled as he spoke. "I have your cards here. Use them as you see fit." He pushed four cards, face-down, across the table.

"I hope you Shadow Tamers don't stretch yourself thin...four is a lot to be unloading on a rookie." Kiba grumbled.

"Don't you value the safty of your "rookies", Seto?" Damian grin, something sinister in his eyes. Kiba simply grumbled in reply. "The rest of you," he said while turning back to the recruits, "can get a pair of Monster Reborns from the quartermaster. Now let us discuss strategy."

"Indeed...I'm getting tired of your posing, Damian." Kiba snorted.

"You're tired of all of us, Kiba-boy" Pegasus chuckled.

"Mmmm." Kiba Grumbled. "Right. The map here shows the island. You'll all be leaving the base and following the coast to the east until you meet up with one of Damian's operatives. He'll take you to the path that will lead to the maintenance station. There, we want you to salvage whatever you can. Computers, cards, supplies for living. Anything. Keep an eye out for a first aid kit, since usually those types of places have one set up on a wall somewhere. Anything the base can use, we want you to grab. You're all dismissed." Kiba crossed his arms, staring everyone down as he waited for them to leave.

"...Thanks."

Zeke sighed. Well, it's better than I thought it would be... I thought I'd just be a distraction for someone. Instead, we're actually doing something very important for the community. More than a new stove, at least. He turned toward his new teammates. Gah... but there are too many people in the group... I guess there could be worse people I could be paired with. Like Qing. He still owes me for that lantern, doesn't he? He thought for a moment longer, then realized that there was something he was missing in his backpack.

"Um... I need to go get food... need any?"

Caroline examined her groupmates as the leaders spoke about them, trying to get a feel for them. It seemed like they were all from different factions, which was... interesting. She did not expect someone from the shadow tamers to come. Caroline made it a point to watch Minami's development, especially to find out why she was trusted enough to get four cards from her Damian.

"Got it!" Caroline replied to Seto Kaiba once he finished describing the situation. Actually, she was less than thrilled to go on a scavenging trip, but reminded herself that this was a mission coming directly from the top, so it must be very important. Either that, or they are hiding something... not that she could ask that to their faces. Element Valkyrie didn't say anything, but was feeling a little uncomfortable with the other three duel spirits in the room, and excused herself from the room, flying through the wall.

At that point, one boy spoke up, catching Caroline's attention. She turned to face him and recalled his name was Zeke, the boy with affinity with machines. He seemed to have forgotten his food, which reminded Caroline that she didn't eat anything yet today.

"I haven't eaten yet, so I'll go with you," Caroline replied adjusting the bag on her back. She did have some food in her bag, but that was for emergencies only. After all, food is limited, she reasoned, though she paid no mind to the fact that she shouldn't be hoarding food in that case.

Minami found it slightly odd that it was the Shadow Tamer representative, and not Kaiba, that handed her her cards. She figured it was because of something political that she was far too junior to be allowed to know about, and put it out of her mind. What mattered more to her was that Kaiba still saw her as a rookie. Not that having four cards mattered anyway - one of them was useless and another would probably only be good once, although the other two worked well enough to make up for it. Just watch me, Seto, she thought, I may be a rookie now, but I'll catch up with you soon enough. "Understood sir," she added aloud, bowing slightly, as Kaiba finished explaining what they were doing.

One of the boys needed some food, and the other girl hadn't eaten. Minami wasn't feeling hungry yet, having just finished training, but she new she probably would do so before they got very far. She didn't mind going hungry too much, if she had to, but starting a journey in that state wasn't a good idea, and neither was raiding what she would be taking with her, since there was no reason to think there would be any food to be found at this station.

"I'll come as well," she added to the two.

Dylan took the offered cards and looked them over. Two monsters on the weak side, and a low-class equipment. He was about to sigh with resignation, but checked himself--not exactly a good idea in front of his commanding officers. He stowed them in his pocket, alongside his existing pack of cards. Saluting, he thanked Kaiba and turned to leave, when he heard Zeke mention something about food. The two girls in the group agreed to go with him to restock. Then Dylan realized that his cards were all that he had packed. "Uh--I'll come too. I'm a bit hungry myself."

"Alright!" Caroline said after Dylan said he would come as well. "The team's going together then!" To Caroline, it was a good sign that the others were getting food as well, although most likely it was merely a coincidence. While heading down to the cafeteria, Caroline decided it would be a good time to get to know the others.

"Since we're going to be working together, guess we should introduce ourselves," Caroline said. She was quite obviously excited; she had a spring in her step, and her voice all but gave it away. "I'm Caroline Netcher."

Minami put the meeting out of her mind - that Shadow Tamer guy gave her an uncomfortable feeling - and turned to look at the rest of the team she would be working with. One of the male members seemed to be maintain discipline well, and she couldn't pick up much at the moment. The other boy, who had been fidgeting with the mechanical device before, was much quieter, and indeed his decision to get food seemed to have been taken over by the group, with the boy himself brought along for the ride. The other female in the group seemed to be rather excitable, if her current attitude was anything to go by. Just so long as she focussed once they left headquarters, that wouldn't be a problem though. Said girl had also proposed introductions.

"I'd agree with that," Minami replied, "my name is Minami Hamasaki." She turned to the quieter of the two boys, figuring he'd need the most prompting. "And you are?" she asked.

Effect Veiler settled for a friendly wave to the other spirits.

When the crew arrived, the nearby, appropriately named "Mess hall" was open to all, including themselves. Everyone would see familiar faces, friend and foe alike. what brought people together in this room was the one thing all people required: Food. A Shadow tamer ran the mess hall. She seemed nice enough, perhaps overly so.
--Here was where the differences between the groups could be seen the best. Kiba's dragons, some going as far as to wear crude armor and heavy traveling gear; The Silver Wings of Pegasus, dressed flamboyantly, or in neat clothing for the most part. The Shadow Tamers, a black void of colorlessness against the others, and finally the Duelist Federation's unorganized masses. The rainbow of chaos that made up this straggling swarm of humanity was a pale reflection of the metropolises of the days before the monsters' coming.
--One thing this place had was food. It had the old machines and microwaves of the visitor's center of Pegasus's island. There were a few farms scattered across the island, including the "Moving Farm" which was a huge nomadic group who stopped in once a year to drop off the harvest to the main fort. Getting supplies was just as important as protecting them. When a farm was discovered, the crops had to be transplanted and moved right away before a repeat attack could be made to wipe out the farm.
--There were a few spots open where the whole "team" could sit, as well as several spots here and there, mixed between their own groups that they could sit away from the newly formed party and among their seniors. The choice was theirs, of course. But that would come after eating a healthy meal, and supplying themselves with enough to eat on a small journey, and possibly longer if something went wrong or they had to divert.

Zeke looked up, suprised to be directly addressed to. He replied, "I... I'm Zeke." He paused for a moment, then noted, "Well, let's... eat or something." He began to weave his way among the crowd toward the counter.

Genex Controller, on the other hand, was quite happy to introduce himself to the other duel spirits. "Hello! My name's Genex Controller!" He waved at them. "I'm sorry, Zeke doesn't like to go out much, so he can be a bit of a sour fellow to other people." He looked around at the other duel spirits. "I've never really seen you around before, except Delta Flyer, have I?"

Dylan looked around the group, judging them. The first girl, Caroline, looked like the excitable type. That, or she was just in a particularly good mood. Minami looked a lot more rigid, possibly a stickler for the rules. Then again, Dylan had never been known for always being right. And Zeke was as closed-off as ever. No change there. He raised his voice a little to be heard above the mess. "My name's Dylan. Thanks for prompting Zeke for me; otherwise he probably wouldn't talk to us at all. Now, if you'll excuse me. Zeke! Wait up!" He threaded off through the crowd to find Zeke so they wouldn't lose him while eating.

Delta Flyer's wings drooped down a little. He would have blushed if his scales were capable of it. He was nervous to be meeting other Duel Spirits. Edging a little towards Genex Controller, he shyly looked up at the others. "W-when he says Delta Flyer, he's talking about m-me. W-what are your names?"

Element Valkyrie was floating ahead of the group, but when the duel spirits were introducing themselves, she slowed down to join the others. "I'm Element Valkyrie," she said, smiling and recognizing the other duel spirits in the group. "Everyone just calls me Valkyrie, though." Her voice was soft, unlike the agitated noise she makes when arguing with Caroline. She then looked back at the humans they were trailing, and Valkyrie could not help but sigh. It was just in her nature to worry like this.

"Hey, Food is always good," Caroline said, replying to Zeke... as if she completely forgot the reason why they went down there in the first place. She took a tray and got her meal... then she got her rations for the trip placed on as well. The tray was rather full and looked hard to balance, mostly because of the soup she got that was being pushed off one side of the tray. Caroline was able to carry it safely - if a little awkwardly, to a recently cleared bench near her location.

"Hey guys!" Caroline called out, waving her hand in the air. "I found us a spot!" While waiting for the others Caroline began packing her rations into her pack, figuring what she was allotted would be more than enough for the mission.

After receiving his food and rations for the trip, Zeke followed where Caroline was waving her hand, ignoring the other three people doing the same to their comrades, and sat down at the table. He packed his rations into his backpack - he wouldn't be able to hold much more until he emptied it a bit - and proceeded to start on his meal, waiting for the others to arrive so they could start discussing the mission.

"It's very nice to meet all of you. I am called Effect Veiler," that spirit introduced himself to the group. "Worried about your partner?" he asked the Valkyrie, placing a hand on her shoulder, "I know that feeling." He watched Minami gathering up the food, before carrying it to the table where the others were. She sat down, pulling open her bag, and began checking each item in turn. The majority went into the bag, but a few things, mostly but not entirely what couldn't be put there, was set aside, ready for her to eat right away, since she could feel the first twinges of hunger coming on already.

"Of course I am. I'm sure you've seen her," Element Valkyrie said. Her arms hung loosely from her body as she floated along, navigating through some of the other spirits present in the mess hall. She can be smart and resourceful, but she acts like she's some hero of a storybook!" Caroline's ears twitched as she heard Valkyrie's complaints about her, and the spirit's sighed as she noticed she was ranting about the one person who could see... and hear.

"...It almost sounds like you think I won't be doing anything spectacular..." Caroline said, not caring about others listening in to her side of the conversation. She stuffed the last of her rations in her pack as she waited for Valkyrie to respond.

"I'm sure you will, but at this rate you'll be killed first." Valkyrie replied. She had quickly regained her composure since Caroline did not seem angry at all.

"I am Caroline Netcher," Caroline retorted, the pride clear in her voice. She had placed her right hand on her chest as if she was reciting a pledge. "and I won't be killed before I am known as a hero of humanity!" She apparently did not notice some of the attention she was drawing to herself; this was the first time she made such a claim in public. She then turned back to the table. "And you all can count on me," she said to her teammates, with a large smile drawn on her face. It was all natural, she had the confidence that she would succeed, and not let her team down.

Dylan stared at Caroline as he sat down with his food tray. Definitely the self-righteous type, he thought. Looking back down, he chose which rations he would pack and which ones he would eat then. Some of the food disappeared into his bag, while the rest remained. He turned back to the girl. "Well, I'm glad you're optimistic about this. But I can warn you from experience: don't shoot too high. You'll probably end up being disappointed."

He absentmindedly opened his water bottle as he addressed Zeke. "So. I know you better than the others here. How do you feel about being this mission's biggest piece?"

"Hey!" Caroline retorted playfully. Of course she knew how dangerous a hero's road is. Still, it was nice to have Dylan worry about her. Of course, she still had more to say, but he had already started to talk to Zeke.

"Jealous of him?" Element Valkyrie asked Caroline. She expected her to confirm that she wanted to be the key piece in the plan, but instead she shook her head. Caroline was fine with it; heroes aren't always in the spotlight, after all. Instead, she finally started eating her meal, beginning with the warm soup that finally was no longer about to be knocked over.

Zeke looked a bit bewildered. "Biggest piece? I doubt it..." He took another bite of his food, then continued. "But... I've been thinking. How do we plan on carrying everything?" He glanced at the rest of the team. "I doubt we'll have enough room." As he said this, Genex Controller returned to his side, and then Zeke started eating again.

"Well," Caroline said with a bit of meat in her mouth. She swallowed it before continuing. "We'll use up some of our rations on the way down, so... yeah. Just look for valuable things, right?" She had been on salvaging runs before; though there was always a senior member with her who directed everything. Would she be the one to take charge in this case? Who knows, so she decided to wait to see what everyone else had to say about it. In the meantime she sped up her eating; she didn't want to be the one holding everyone up.
