Quzo
EDIT: PArt of the story has been posted here (in the fac fic section of the fourm) if you wish to view it:http://forum.yugiohcardmaker.net/topic/227111-an-excerpt-of-my-oc-cast-clash-of-the-titans/ Just gathering opinions because I am in the process writing my own Yu-Gi-OH fan fiction. I don't want to write a load of chapters find I've wasted my time because people don't appreciate it. I find all OC cast fan fics are hard to pull off and more interesting than ones based around pre-existing characters, if successful. Indeed, my friend was writing a fan fic explaining why the millennium items possessed people and how Bakura was a mere pawn in a wider plan though when posted on fanfiction.net it got no replies despite being 30,000words long (though he doesn't proofread his work which would have been a contributing factor to the story's downfall), so he stopped. I don't want to suffer the same fate so I am conducting a poll to see what the community here thinks. I have kept to certain standards like: 1.Having a Kuriboh monster for a main character. 2. the main character's signature monster have 2500 ATK/2000DEF 3. and Rival's having 3000ATK/2500DEF. 4. There is an ancient culture and feud the story is based around. But also: 5. There will be lots of custom cards (some to make pre-existing cards such as currently rubbish nomral monsters more useful) but also characters 6. Alongside new cards many existing cards and archetypes that have not yet debuted in the anime 7. and most of the major characters will have a deck based on their personality. There will also be a new kind of monster for the extra deck that requires only 1 material monster and they will be based on the chemical porccess of Derivitization (which is also the name of the spell card required to summon them). For example, the TCG card "Stone Dragon" could become a more powerful "Ironclad Dragon" by the powers of Derivitization, or a normal sized monster could become a Giant etc.
Tentacruel
Yes but only in a Pokemon fic. (I suppose Yugioh would apply too.)

(I suppose Yugioh would apply too.)
Well it's the same with me because amines like Pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh are quite unique in that you can have all the custom characters and cards/pokes in the world but so long as one keeps the central theme of battliing and the rules of a Yu-Gi-Oh duel it is still classed and Pokémon or Yu-Gi-Oh. Ovbiously there would have to be at least some card/pokes from the real thing because one wouldn't want to stray too far.
Welche the crab
Custom cards are hard to use, but it can be done. I might read it.
CinnamonStar
Well with OC YGO fanfics most of my experience has been that people put either overpowered or completely idealized characters into the story. I used to be active in the YGO GX community on fanfiction.net and .de, now I just read stuff. But a lot of people, mostly girls!, put some pretty-looking, uber-special AND talented girl into the place to stuff with their favourite male character and I hated it. I grew bored of Asuka and Aki and I hated most of the female inserts. Others put some OMGcold and cool-sarcastic duelist guy down who somehow beat everyone with little effort and I hated that too.;__; I think to make a good OC fanfic people should completely avoid these types of characters altogether, it's just old and too easy. I like ideas with ancient feuds and I usually never read fanfics with described duels, but I might read yours because it seems to be personality-focussed too.:

That's exactly what puts me off reading peoples stories. Many people have no clue about the trends set in the anime. Which is why I would keep the standards as mentioned above. As for the actual story I still havn't even fiinished the prologue and I'm already have thoughts about how I could end it. I just have to get a good story inbetween. DARKPLANT RISING
As long as your character is appealing and unorthodox, and it goes straight into the plot before a duel, and it has right grammar, I would read it for some length. I will also include an outline of the story as I have planned it.
~Shore
Why not just write your own story with original characters and plotlines?
Quzo
I have posted it but the topic has no replies. That's the thing; even with my regular fiction I never seem to get any reviews even though I aspire to have good spelling and grammer. I can't understand what is wrong with my writing I think I might be afflicted with a curse because I did actually get an A for my writing. Maybe i should just write a whole chapter instead of posting an execrpt but then I maybe wasting my time... :/ I have amended the first post to include a link to it on this site.
