evilfusion Posted January 17, 2011 Report Share Posted January 17, 2011 I was disappointed they cut out possibly the second most epic moment in the Crashtown Arc (Infernity Zero + Infernity Death Gunman was one), but in truth, I think it made sense and it was actually a pretty decent compromise. Instead of having a relatively pointless "last turn", they implied that the conclusion was physical, rather than just editted out sloppily. Ruka dueled what, 3 1/2 times in the series? 1- During Fortune Cup, vs that hypnotist weirdo. .5- Demak, but Rua had literally done everything up to that point. They only won though because Demak thought it'd be fun to show Ancient Fairy Dragon to Ruka. 2- Vs Lucciano 3- Vs Aporia The problem is she was stated to have a condition that dueling exhausted her or something. Also, at the beginning of episode 91, when Barbara lassos that one guy with the whip and is choking him, uh...what the hell was with the edit there? The guy is clearly being strangled, based on his mannerisms and gestures, but the whip around his neck is invisible. Wow...just because we can't see it doesn't mean we dont know what's going on. It's like preserving the scene, but without a tiny but crucial visual aspect. And when one of the Crashtown guys points a gun at Barbara, he is "pointing threateningly". The second guy is still holding a gun, just not pointing it at Barbara. Um... The whole last scene with Kiryu vs Lotten revolved around Death Gunman. Editing everything, including the flashback of Death Gunman the first time, the current time, and establishing the tension of the moment without showing the gun...damn, that'd be hard. We lose the epic scene, but at the same time, I kind of liked the idea of them not settling it with a duel, since that leaves the implication that Kiryu fought him physically. However, that would have worked MUCH better if they hadn't changed Lotten's "I'm a realist" line (when accused of not acting like a duelist) to "I'm a lot of things". evilfusion Posted January 17, 2011 Report Share Posted January 17, 2011 I can only assume because anime has a cartoony feel, so such shows are aimed towards younger audiences (inb4TheSimpsons/SouthPark/FamilyGuy). The older audience shows tend to be comedies with crude or offensive humor, and there just aren't enough good shows directed towards the middle ground, being teenagers. And you have to admit, Yugioh, being a show where high-stakes situations are settled with card games is a bit hard to take seriously. But the dub makes it impossible to take seriously because they changed the demographic and censor all the things that make it appeal to teens. And ignorance is bliss. I watched the first two series with dub only and I thought the show was great, usually. 5Ds is the first one I watched the subs for, and it cements in my mind that the dub simply cannot compare to it, due to censoring and dialogue, and as of late, name changes. I hate the inconsistency I have of referring to Yugioh and GX with dub information, and 5Ds with sub. For example, my obsession with the proper names for most 5Ds characters. (Dont you dare call Placido, Lucciano, or Jose by those horrible dub names, or Kiryu for that matter) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

It´s that they are completely unrelated to eachother. In the japanese version, The names being reference to the three tenors might have been a subtle hint that each member of The Infinity trio was (more or less) conected to eachother (=being able to fuse into Aporia), when I think about it. evilfusion Posted January 19, 2011 Report Share Posted January 19, 2011 My biggest gripe about the dub names for the Infinity Trio is that Lucciano and Placido have a nice ring to it, and Jose was cool in its simplicity. Jose's dub name is the one I hate the least (it's still two syllables, with a J). I'm not fond of "Primo" for Placido, but I dont actively hate it. I can't stand Lucciano's dub name, and coupled with the voice actor, dub Lucciano is just too painful to listen to. Seriously, I refused to finish watching dub 78 despite it being one of my favorite episodes, because Lucciano's dub voice, the normal pains of the dub, and Ruka/Rua's absolutely unbearable new voices were just too much.
