The Schizophrenic's Guide to Multiversing [Started / Not Accepting]

The Warden

"!" the young girl exclaimed in fright, voice caught in her throat at the sudden boom of a barrage of missiles and bullets. It seemed the army man had found himself a new toy. She weakly tried to smile, but could hardly keep her heart from leaping out of her chest.

She recalled hearing the man speak of allies, however she merely raised an eyebrow. If he had allies who had been brilliant, brave, strong and whatever enough to survive in this world for as long as they did, why not bring THEM along for this dangerous suicide mission? Surely they'd do anything to get out of the grim apocalypse they were hidden in now, right?

She raised her hand, as though asking a question, waiting to be called on. "I have a question!" she yelled out, trying to get Maxie's attention.

Osanimu eyed Keith's new "toy" warily. "Oh man, that thing is strong!" She gulped, then heard what Maxie said. "Oh no, I'm not planning on dying, not now, not ever!" She said firmly, reaching into her bag. "Where the hell did it go.....Ahh, here we are!" She pulled out a seemingly normal handgun. Checking everything was in order, she put it carefully into her belt. "OK, now I'm armed, I MAY not have to worry about my life as much. And besides, if that fails, I can always try the demon things..." She thought, gazing once more at the war-torn area. She turned to Maxie. "Ok, lets go."

Ivor gave a slight grin when he saw the others taking the situation seriously. He reached inside his cloak, until his hand felt a weapon. It's still there, he noted, I should probably test it, but then I'd just be wasting ammo, besides it's never failed before, even there. "I'm pretty sure everyone here is planning to stay alive," he told Maxie, "at least for the moment. You're the one who knows what's happening, so we're waiting for your assessment of the situation. You're in charge, which means it's your job to keep your team alive - even if they don't want you to." I wonder, exactly what experience of field command does he have?

Keith was field-stripping his new weapon, which he was dubbing the "Destructinator QX-01", to see how it ticked. Apparently, it was what he thought it was: three Gatling guns fused with three rocket launchers. However, while the combined barrels of each individual Gatling gun rotated in one direction, the entire gun rotated in the opposite direction, giving the projectiles more power. To Keith, it was rather fascinating. He was just reassembling the weapon when he heard his name, and went over to Maxie. "So, what is this special job you want me to do?"

Maxie looked at Keith and grinned. 'Your job is simple, very simple. Helena hasn't got any shoes, her walking on broken ground would slow us down, so you get to give her a lift on your back, surely you can fire with someone on your back' he said and grinned. Soldier boy was dealt with, but it appears the mouse was asking something. 'What is it?' he demanded. Q&A time was becomming a drag, the longer they waited there the less time they had before the aliens came to find the remains of their 'adorable' little pet.

"Uhh..." began the quiet one, slightly taken aback by his sudden demand. She awkwardly shifted around as she began. "Well... why am I here?"

It was a rather blunt, but serious question that certainly needed asking, in her opinion. "I mean, it looks like she's a scientist-" she motioned towards Pearl "He might be a little kid, but he snuck in so he's definitely got some skill" she motioned towards Steve. "He's a military guy..." she motioned towards the Master Chief Petty Officer.

"But me? I've never done anything remarkable in my entire-" she paused, a sudden realization dawned upon her, like a cold slap from a dead fish. Her pupils contracted and got smaller as she thought of something.

"WAIT!" She insisted, stamping her barefoot on the ground, kicking up some dirt. "I uhh..."

She thought to herself. "All those things I was arrested and tried for... blowing up a bridge, singlehandedly sinking a ship with my bare hands, stealing a skyscraper and replacing it with an exact duplicate made of bubblegum, murdering everyone in New York City and keeping up the charade that they were alive, weekend-at-Burnies style... they... don't think all that stuff was real do they!?"

"Uh...." was all she could manage.

Pearl closed her notebook, satisfied with what she noted down for the time being. After placing it back in the pack, she hurried up to the front; she had fallen behind quite a bit.

Once there she spotted that Keith's gun was... different. Very different. She may have to rethink her theory that this universe doesn't affect the mechanical, after all. Then, Pearl heard Maxie tell Keith to carry Helena... followed by Helena asking Maxie a question of her own. Pearl had to scratch her head; she really had no idea why this guy was selected to be the leader. Then again, would any of the group here make a good one? She didn't know - all she knew was that she really doesn't want to be the leader herself, and is glad someone else is - regardless of how rude he is.

And rude he was; he yelled at the young girl who was with the group... for some reason. Helena was confused about her involvement as well; it was becoming clearer and clearer that there may have been a mistake with the selection. She seemed to be able to use power this universe granted her well enough for a first time... so maybe there was something else in the selection process. However, Helena could not finish her inquiry for some reason.

"What's wrong?" Pearl asked Helena, raising an eyebrow. She hoped that it wasn't another side effect of coming to this universe. As she awaited her answer, Pearl began looking over Helena, looking to see for any external reasons for her hesitance.

Keith mulled it over, and he suddenly got an idea. "Even better. I'm going to make her my wingman."
Keith rummaged through his backpack, throwing out a few guns and even a cannon before finding what he needed: a black and silver watch. He handed it to the girl. "Here. You've been complaining about your role on the team, so I'm going to give you one: my partner. I want you to put on this watch, and do what the watch says. Trust me. I may be big and scary, but I respect you, and I trust you. That's probably one of the best compliments you're going to get out of me."

He's going to have the person with what's probably the most powerful physical weapon we have try and carry someone else at the same time? He may be the strongest-lloking, but she doesn't exactly seem like a heavyweight. Why do I get the feeling I could do a better job of leading this team? Oh well.
"Since I don't really want the one person between me and those things to be balancing another person whilst he's shooting, how about I carry...Helena, was it?" He looked at the girl herself, who seemed to be uncertain as to her role in the team. Ivor had a somewhat similar feeling, although since he was using the mission as a means to his own ends, it didn't really bother him.

Maxie clapped his hands loudly, they had wasted too much time. 'Okay everyone, we've wasted too much time here. We're moving, no ifs ands or buts' he stated and ran out of the alley with everyone else in hopeless pursuit.

Thankfully, the multiverse trvael device was equipped with a digital map of the multiverse they were in. Maxie had located the area they needed to get to and the group made it there in one piece without much issue. The streets were unnecessarily quiet, unusual when they should have been getting strafed. They arrived at a broken down building, crushed remains of the wall were the only indiciation it had been a house. 'We're here' Maxie stated.

(OOC: Oh... I thought he'd answer Helena's question... *shrug*)

Our green haired heroine just stood silent, mulling it over in her head, wondering if there was anyway she could go back home. The military guy trusted her enough, so perhaps she could plan a rebellious coup d'etat take the advice to return home. Heck, with universe traveling powers they could-

"!" Pearl's voice brought her back to normal. "Wh-what?" She blinked. "Oh I... uhh... nothing." She blinked, disregarding her previous plan. What was she thinking? Honestly, was she becoming the monster they had imprisoned a year ago?

"Uhh... probably just... uhh.. you know... stomach problems. We haven't eaten in quite some time." But before she could complain for much longer, the large military man presented her with a present.

She was rather taken aback by the sudden motion, as she looked the watch over. It barely fit over her thing wrist, even when set back as far as it could go. "I could wear this as a belt..." she muttered, though she probably couldn't.

"Th-thanks?" she questioned, putting it around her upper forearm. "What does it do... other then tell time?"

But before she could get the answer to that, it seemed another man had volunteered to carry her. She cringed, not particularly wanting to be the center of attention or being a burden to anyone. "C-can someone just make or bring me some shoes or a plastic bag or something? I'm sure I'll manage." her eyes cast awkwardly on the ground, looking away from the group.

But it seemed despite this issue never really getting fully resolved, the group had some made it to a rundown and destroyed building. Helena blinked.

They had just crossed a universe with the gun, so surely being teleported just a few miles down would be no problem for it, right? And with that she gave the fact that she arrived here no further thought.

"What is this place?" she asked.

"We are where?" Pearl asked bluntly. She looked at the building the group stood in front of and then glanced around. It seemed that the area they were in was abandoned for the most part. *Could the documents be here?* she thought to herself before removing the thought from her head. "Really, you've got to be more forward about things, Maxie," Pearl said, crossing her arms. "Not everyone here knows the things you do, you know?" She really was questioning his ability to lead. Sure, he knew the most, but he seemed to keep most of it to himself, and the rest of the team seems to be running on as little info as possible. His secrecy made her want to know what was in those documents the group was hunting even more...

Keith smirked as he started walking. "You'll see."
The watch suddenly snapped to life. "Scanning...scanning...scan complete." A slight prick was felt underneath the surface of the watch. "Analyzing DNA sample...analyzing...analysis confirmed. Owner imprinted. Controls locked to current owner unless overridden. Preparing for vocal lock. Please state your name, your age, and 4 to 6 sentences about yourself. Please make sure that there is very little background noise."

Osanimu raised an eyebrow when they reached the old, destroyed building. "Why are we here?" She asked Maxie firmly, min whirling. "Why are we here? This place is old, destroyed, broken-down. There's is nothing here that I can see that would interest Maxie in the slightest. Unless there is more here than meets the eye. After all, looks can be decieving." Osanimu pondered this whilst waiting for Maxie's reply.

"H-huh?" The green haired youth protested. She trashed about dramatically in an over the top manner to remove the watch around her forearm. "St-stop!" She demanded, but alas the watch did not listen.

"Ye-ouch!" She exclaimed loudly. Even though she had spent the last year behind bars, her skin was like porcelain, both in beauty and in sensitivity. It probably hurt much less then she let on, but the sudden shock and fear of a tightening arm band followed by a sharp prick in her arm was rather much. Had she been informed before hand, it'd have probably been better.

"OWWW!!!" She hollered, crying.

"Emergency voice profile successful. Voice commands now accepted. Disengaging from owner." The tiny device popped off of her arm and into Keith's hands.
"I'm sorry, moppet. I should have told you about this. All the watch did was take a sample of your blood. Just a teeny one. See?" A barely noticeable point on Helena's arm was the only sign of her injury. "It's now encoded to your DNA and your voice, preventing anyone else from using it. Trust me when I say that the watch is totally worth it. This watch will make sure that you are strong and safe." Keith offered it back to Helena. "So, will you keep it?"

Maxie ignored their questions about the ruins and walked into the ruins. He shifted a rock to reveal a trap door coloured like the wrecked ground. He stomped it twice, each stomp a banging echo. There was some scrabbling and a small square opened in the door, revealing an eye. 'Yes?' a voice inquired. Maxie said something completely incomprehensible. The door slammed upwards and down, a woman in torn clothes was peering out of it. 'Maxie you son of a b***h' she declared and climbed out. She hugged him warmly and regarded the others. 'Did you find some more civilians for us to hide?' she inquired. Maxie waved his hand. 'I'll discuss it when we get inside' he stated. After this, he turned to face he group. 'Okay everyone, we're going down into the base, say nothing, touch nothing and do nothing' he ordered.

The youth was still simpering, clutching her arm and fighting a losing battle against her tears. She did the cute, lower lip thing, when a voice brought her out of her bad mood.

"Huh? What?" It was Maxie, telling them the next thing they'd be doing. She took a few steps forwards as she looked the ruins over. Not much left but the remains of a few walls, no ceilings.

She walked slightly to the left, leaning on the fourth wall. "Say nothing, touch nothing, and do nothing? That'll make for a terribly boring story."

Maxie took a few steps towards Helena, he had a grin. 'It gets better, I'm just warning you for your own safety. These guys, the Shadowlords aren't exactly at home to civilians being in their base for long periods of time. They'll make an exception this once, especially since they'll detect your shadow signature's soon enough. But for now, try not to touch anything in their base, considering how much alien tech they managed to pilfer. But blow us all up if you will make us feel better. They say hell doesn't exist in this universe, so we won't be able to blame you, or any of you if we die' he said, his voice becoming louder for everyone else to hear. The girl was confused by Maxie's actions, but she shrugged; Maxie was always strange. 'Okay, maybe I'm a little strict. Just don;t touch anything' he added, noticing the girl's confused look. 'Intros' he suddenly announced. 'Group, this is Wendy, one of the Shadowlords and our guide to this universe' he announced.

When Maxie actually explained himself, Ivor smiled. So he's finally acting like a leader, and not a lone ranger trying to run from the rest of us. He's still being unpleasant, but that's probably his nature, he decided. He took another look around the ruins. They seemed pretty much like any one of a dozen other sets nearby, meaning it was probably located by it's position within the ruined city. In that case, he had to give credit to Maxie for remembering where the entrance was - unless they were in all those ruins.
He looked to the woman who had come from the underground base, and gave her a nod in greeting.

Pearl nodded towards Wendy. "Nice to meet you." Pearl could not help but wonder what a shadowlord was, though she assumed it had something to do with those shadow demons that Maxie could summon. It was a shame that the group wasn't allowed to touch anything - Pearl would love to get her hands on some alien technology herself, even if it's just to play with. It's probably for the best, since they haven't even located the documents in this world, and pissing off someone who could help them is not a good idea. For now, she'd have to look with her eyes.
