An awesome new game by 2k games and Firaxis which was just released last September 21 2010.

18 civilizations to choose from, each having it's own story and spice:
America Arabia Aztec China Egypt England France Germany Greece
India Iroquois Japan Ottoman Persia Rome Russia Siam Songhai

The cool thing about this game is that each Civilization has a unique unit and/or building which you can use to your advantage. It's a turn-base strategy game. The graphics had a major boost since it's last predecessor(CIV IV). Each Civilization also comes with a unique leader which the player will take assume of and the leaders are based on prominent historical figures. Each Civilization also have unique abilities that you can leverage from.

As in previous games, there will be multiple ways to victory in addition to military conquest. The player may focus on scientific research and become the first to assemble and launch a spaceship, winning a space race victory. Diplomatic victory requires support from other civilizations and city states in the United Nations. In the revamped culture system of Civilization V that consists of social policy "trees", the cultural victory involves filling out five of the ten "trees" and completing the Utopia project. World domination is of course an option, but the victory condition has been simplified compared to previous games in the series. Rather than completely destroying the other civilizations, it is now only necessary to capture all of the capital cities. - Wikipedia

If you are new and have never played any of the Civilization games before, then this is the perfect time to play it. The game interface is very friendly. You can easily catch up with the veteran players. Every game you play will have a different feel and scenario.

For me, my favorite is the Japanese Civilization. Their unique ability and Samurai units is what i exactly need since my style of play is by world domination. I usually scout out early and build massive forces. I love pillaging other cities.

World domination by far IMO is the most fun way to win the game.

You made an excellent choice Kizzi. I've got a feeling where "Oh my God it's 4am. What happened?!" situations will happen to me. Everyday, i've been playing it for 3-4 hours and never got tired of it.

Tell me if you want to play a multiplayer game. We can be on the same team. I can perhaps also share some tips while we're at it.
For now, just enjoy the game. Also, to learn fast, set the size of the map to "DUEL" so it's just a 1 on 1 against AI. From there, you can gradually increase the number of AI you want to battle. ^_^
