You don't really have to do much. Just till the ground and plant your seeds, make sure they have water, and your good. Check back in a day and you should have a few wheat crops. Then continue doing whatever you were going to.

Leave it to Minecraft to make even farming fun.

I farm, and I don't need to water thank to my self-made islamnds, it's so awesome. I farm both wheat and reeds. My wheat is enclosed by a fene so those stupid animals won't crush my crops. The reeds aren't due to their specific need of growing on blocks that are next to water.

The area for my wheat is, let's see 11x7 LxW. The outer rim has the fence, the second rim has torches, so I have about 21 spaces left for crops.
