A long, long time ago the world of Bassiel was torn apart by a fearsome cataclysm. Powerful quakes ripped the land apart, volcanoes erupted, and low-level lands were swallowed by the sea. The origin of the cataclysm was never discovered, but humanity was as prepared as they could possibly be. Using their mastery of both magic and technology they created dozens of floating sanctuaries along with hundreds of airships. Running on the ambient flow of magic in Bassiel and enchanted to endure the test of time these sanctuaries took to the only place untouched by the cataclysm; the skies above.

Centuries have passed since then, and humanity continues to thrive in the sky. Food, clean water, and other necessities are traded in between the sanctuaries. Unfortunately, there are those prey upon the trade ships and even the colonies unable to protect themselves. Piracy continues to be the single most dangerous problem in the skies. The death toll only rises as most as helpless to defend themselves against the superior arsenal of the pirates. Only the Guild remains strong enough to fight off the menace using the most powerful mages in the skies. Those who join the Guild are trained to ascend beyond that of the common mage, and become a force to be reckoned with. The Guild is not a job opportunity, its a way of life.

Currently, the Guild is recruiting more than ever before to combat the rise of piracy. Their target is primarily children who show potential magic talent. Those who are recruited through their apprenticeship program are provided with all of the necessities, decent wage, but most importantly a chance to learn magic under the most powerful and experienced mages within the Guild. These initiates will be allowed to undertake lesser commissions for extra pay and give them a chance to use their new found teachings. This also allows the Guild to divert their attention to the more serious threats.

You are one of the children who aims to join the Guild through their apprenticeship program. Assuming you don't crack under the pressure, you'll become ascend beyond a fledgling mage to a member of the last line of defense against piracy. You will be destined to take the battle farther than ever before, right into the enemies' stronghold.
Magic

Magic is both a craft and a substance. When a mage casts a spell, they manipulate ambient magic by using energy from their own body. The pool of inner energy a mage draws from in called their Well. Mages replenish their Well by eating, sleeping, and meditating. In order to cast a spell, a mage has to control of the flow of magic within their own body by means movement and/or incantation. The effectiveness of spell varies on how well a mage uses the two. Every mistake they make weakens their spell and makes it more difficult to cast. Should a mage attempt to cast a spell that is beyond their Well's current capacity they will completely exhaust themselves which can lead to blacking out or death. Over their life time, a mage's Well will increase to meet their rise in power. Some mages have naturally larger Wells though that only makes it more difficult for them master their art.

All spells fall under one or more the Major Arcana, the four main schools of magic. Each one is presents it's own strengths and weaknesses. Every mage must study each of the Major Arcana regardless of their specializations.

The Major Arcana – The Four Schools of Magic

Abjuration: The magic of protection and banishment. Single-handedly, abjuration is the most important magic in the major arcana. Without their protective wards, mages could be easily killed by others or even themselves considering the strength of their offensive spells. Abjuration can also dispel enchantments and imprison it's victims.

Evocation: The source of the majority of offensive spells, Evocation draws upon magic to create something out of nothing. Bolts of lightning, explosions, telekinesis, and some utility spells come from Evocation. The basics are easy learn, but in the end Evocation is the hardest to master.

Conjuration: The magic of summoning, creation, and teleportation. Through conjuration creatures from other planes of existence can be summoned to assist you in battle. One can also conjure mundane items like food, clothing, weapons, and etc, or move across great distances by means of a portal.

Transmutation: The magic of change and exchange. Transmutation is capable of more feats than any of the three other schools in the major arcana. One could increase their body strength and reflexes, heal wounds, or change an object or being into something else entirely. Transmutation requires a sharp mind, but yields rewards worth the effort put in.

Focusing

Early on, mages must choose a way to help focus the flow of their magic. This allows the mage to progress faster than without, making it a must. There are three different types of focusing methods.

Arcane Bond – Most mages use arcane bonds to help focus their magic. By storing a portion of their power in an object they can improve their spell casting in accuracy, speed, and strength. Should a mage not have their bonded item on hand spells become much harder to cast, and can even drain their Well faster than normal. Bonded items cannot be destroyed by normal means. Arcane bonds are most commonly used on jewelry, but they can also be used on weapons. Mages can unbond and rebond new objects, but the process is often too long and tedious to pursue.

Familiar – A mage does not choose their familiar, their familiar chooses them. Smaller animals have a tendency to bond with mages. For whatever reason, these animals will follow their master to the ends of the earth all the while acting as a different form of arcane bond. Over time, a mage can learn to communicate with their familiar telepathically along with animals of the same species. Mages can also cast spells with their familiar's help, delivering spells that would normally require direct contact. Familiars can be injured or killed which weakens it's master's magic.

Markings – Some mages feel that entrusting their power with anyone or anything besides themselves is foolish, so they go down a different route. With the help of another, mages can have symbols of arcane magic tattooed onto their body. This allows a mage cast spells without relying on a bonded object or a familiar. The downside to such markings is that they limit the size of your Well. Mages with markings must be learn the value of efficiency early on, or suffer painfully.

Pirate Medallion - What is says on the tin.
Pirates carry special medallions that give them different powers from mages. The type of medallion a pirate carries is relative to his rank, such as a captain would have the medallion that has some kind of advantage over other medallions like it takes less time to recharge between uses. The medallions grant powers to the pirate using them as well as several drawbacks.

-Charge is regained over time
o Magebane:
Provides a resistance to magic. Of all the types of medallions, Mage-bane is the simplest to use. It draws from energy stored within the medallion and weakens spells from the amount of charge the user decides to utilize against the spell. The charge is the medallion is subtracted from the spell, weakening it or if the spell was more powerful than the charge, breaking the medallion while weakening the spell very little. Some of the higher-class Mage-bane types have a lesser charge but more powerful effects on magic. All medallions that deal with countering magic are Mage-bane type. Mage-bane medallions often have a medium sized charge and of uncommon rarity.

o Magic-enhancement (Mages only):
Enhances the effects of some magic spells. Of the 3 types of medallions, Magic enhancement has the least charge. They're used to enhance spells by contributing energy from the medallion to the spell. Magic-enhancement can usually only be used on 2-3 spells before it cracks and is unrepairable. Magic-enhancement medalllions are often extremely rare, most are held by guild higher up and a mage rarely can get a hand on 1.
[This is just an idea of mine, not exactly my best but I needed a second class]

o Evocation:
Different from the mages evocations spells, just needed the name. Provides other effects to aid pirates. Some have odd effects such as making pirates able to tell better jokes and being more persuasive, while others aid pirates in battle by providing useful effects. All medallions dealing with other amplifying effects are classified as evocation. Evocation medallions often have a varying charge depending on what they're used for. Rarity often differs for usage.
This looks great! Reserve a spot, I'll have my app in asap.

EDIT: I'm almost done, just a question. Would it be possible to be a Paladin with a halberd? Does it have to be a sword?

EDIT: I'll just post my app for now, if I need to change anything, just tell me.

Sephiran awoke in his bed. What a strange dream, or was it a nightmare? He recalled the dream perfectly.

He stood in front of the mountain of The Eternal Flame, transixed by a shining crystal. The mountain of The Eternal Flame? What's going on? That's when he awoke. He blinked as light flooded into his room from the rising sun. He rubbed the sleep from his eyes. "I must figure out what that dream meant. What was that light, and the darkness as well? Whatever it means, I think its secret lies at the mountain of The Eternal Flame. I must go there." He got out of bed, and alerted his servants of his trip.

"But you musn't go!" Moressu, his lead servant, pleaded. "In order to get there, you must travel through the vast trees of the Labyrinth Forest! There are various beasts there, and they are all very dangerous. And with your... condition-"

Sephiran rose his hand to stop his complaints. "I'm sorry, but I must. I will be leaving immediately. Just take care of the house while I'm gone. I'm sorry for troubling you." He packed his things, sheathed his sword, and departed for the Labyrinth Forest.

Ragaror slammed his fist on the table in his general's tent. "Damn crystal! If it wasn't for you, I wouldn't have been humiliated in that battle! And now I'm talking to an imaginary crystal that probably doesn't even exist! I must find the source of my weakness. My soldiers can't fight under me if I'm this weak! I can barely use a training sword!" Out of rage, Ragaror stood up and kicked the table, snapping it in half. "That's it, I can't take much more of this! I-"

Suddenly, Ragaror lost conciousness. He fell into a dream-like state, standing in ankle-high water. Where am I? Then, a dark figure appeared in front of him. Ragaror crossed him arms. Who the hell are you?

That is of no importance to you, mortal. I have come to tell you how to get your powers back. The figure showed him an image of Blackbird Island. You must go here. It is called Blackbird Island, and it contains a crystal of dark power, which you can use to regain your powers.

What do you think you're doing in my tent?! Can't a guy take, um, a nap in peace?! Get out of here!" Ragaror got up and punched a soldier in the face. An audible crunching noise was heard.

"Sorry sir, sorry!" one soldier pleaded. "It's just, Commander Lucifer has been ordered to relieve you of duty, sir."

"What?! How dare he, I-" Ragaror cut off mid sentence. This could give me a perfect opportunity to find that blasted crystal! But I can't let these fools know about it. "Let me meet with him."

"I'm already here." Lucifer stepped into the tent. "You two may leave." The soldiers saluted Lucifer and hastily retreated from the tent, one holding his nose, grimacing in pain. "Your time has come, Ragaror. Your power is gone, and I must take over. I don't know what brought about such weakness, but it cannot stand. You have until sundown to leave, before I chase you out myself."

"Hmph. I'll be happy to leave you fools behind. I'll be going." He packed his things and grabbed his sheathed sword.

Armond stood in the coriddor watching the man at the other end closely, the man moved only when Amond moved he seemed to mimick Armond's every move, then the man began to move before Armon, but now the patern reversed and it seemed as if Armond was copying the other man, this continued for another few moments, they both sat down at the same time, Armond stared at the other man, his eyes grew wide as he realized that he was looking into an infanint reflection, one that could move on it's own before Armond could, Armond chuckled "I see your trying to drive me insane by making it seem as if you know my every move, making me eat away at my sanity, making me destory myself, so you don't haft to." Armond was now standin in the middle of a field infront of a man whos face was filled with shock and disbelief, even though the truth stood right infront of him, Armond had turned the mans own illusion against him. Armond's mind was on a different level entirerly he thought at a higher speed than others, his mind presevied the impossible and made it possible, or at least thats how he made it seem. Armond aproached the man and pushed him to the ground, the man's real eyes opened seeing that it was him who had been trapped in an illusion and that he had trapped a fake Armon, the man's mind began to fall apart not knowing if this was reality or simply another illusion, but Armond stood infront of him like a symbol of the man's own insanity, Armond walked closer to the man and leaned close to him "If your awake you would be dead, but your still trapped in the never ending loop that is your own mind, you will be stuck here until you can see reality for what it truely is and what your mind is creating to destory you." Armond disappeared as if he had never existed in the world, the man fell to his knees, he knew now that he was trapped like a rat in a never ending maze that when it looks as if you have found the exit you stumble into a whole new maze that is more complicated than the first, and that he would go insane and die here traped here within his own mind. Armond smiled seeing that he had finally rid himself of his childhood tormentor, his father was now going to die within his own mind, and Armond would walk the world unhindered by the bonds of his father's taunting memory

I have 2 worries about this RP is that Mages will be too popular and there will be hardly any pirates. Reason for this is there is more incentive to join the guild rather than the pirates, Great magic powers and the ability to customize character creatively. Pirates just seems a little bland to me, you should probably add another incentive for people to join as pirates. Not sure if I'm missing something but after reading this 3 times, its my first impression.

Well this is my uptake on it, just thought I'd say that just because its the first thing I noticed.

Rose smiled brightly as Peter sat back down next to her, she then frowned hearing the gym teacher call her name "Guess I better get this over with." she walked on to the stage she closed her eyes and concetrated, the gym began to feel humid and water droplets began to form in the air, the droplets rushed the stage slamming together and began to form what looked like a small wave, then the wave grew eyes and arms the creature looked around at the group of students, the mass of water then froze and began to reform into a human like shape it agin looked around its frozen body making cracking noises as it moved, the creature then melted into a puddle on the floor "Sorry, but I can't do anything about the mess." Rose smiled as she quickly walked off stage and smiled as she sat down close to Peter

that is why I did the first one, because I have not been in a "magic" realated Rp since I've been back, and the ones that I was in are long gone and most likely have been delelted, so could I change the type so that the app does not repquire a sample or can I write another little script like earlier

I like the Pirate Mages idea, it would certainly be interesting, but there are other ideas to consider. I put some thought into it and here's what I came up with.

o Pirate Medallions
- Pirates carry special medallions that give them different powers from mages. The type of medallion a pirate carries is relative to his rank, such as a captain would have the medallion that has some kind of advantage over other medallions like it takes less time to recharge between uses. The medallions grant powers to the pirate using them as well as several drawbacks.

o [s]Alchemy[/s]
- If you've ever seen Fullmetal Alchemist, you get my idea here.
Alchemy can be used to manipulate the Well inside a pirate, but in a different way from mages. It uses the Well to affect the environment around them using runes.

Well Here's what I've come up with so far.
