Pokemon is Gender confused

So was playing Pokemon FireRed.

 

Fighting Trainers as normal, Bug Catcher Earl, Hiker Bob etc.

 

But as soon as I saw the Swimmers, after each of their names, was a gender symbol ♂♀.

 

So instead of it being Swimmer Mandy , it was Swimmer Mandy♀.

 

Even though it's easier to tell that the Trainer is obviously wearing a bra, why put the gender on the swimmers? O_o

Maybe there is 2 Swimmers with the same name in the game? Each Trainer goes by a set Code so perhaps that's the reason.

Well they find new names for most of the Trainers, I didn't see any with the same name.

 

I could sortof understand with a name like Sam (Samantha, Samuel), but if one is wearing a thong, and the other shorts... does it really need explaining?

I guess they use those signs so that people don't think the guys wear bras and that the girls are shirtless hookers.

It's because both the Male and Female trainer are called Swimmer *name*. They add a gender sign on the end because each trainer has to be coded with it's own unique name. That's the real reason why. It's the same in all the Pokemon games.

I know of that, but everyone seems to miss the point...

 

it's only the Swimmers who have gender signs, no other Trainers.

Again, Swimmer Male and Swimmer Female are seperate trainer identities.

 

The rest of the trainers were not seperated into male/female. If you are asking why only swimmers, take it up with Nintendo. However, that is the technological explanation.

I think it's a quirk in the translation; perhaps they forgot about it?

I'm pretty sure they took out the gender signs in Gen IV. Though it was probably, in some way, due to prgramming, it doesn't seem so. In many of the trainer editors, the character sprite isn't linked with the title, so theoretically, you could battle a Pokémon Professor who was some bald guy on a motorcycle.

 

On the subject of motorcycles, what dumbass decided to force people into pokémon battles while they were riding an uncontrollable bike down a steep hill? POKÉMON BATTLES ON MOTORCYCLES!
