DeathSDelano
Head Line: Enemy of the State Supremem COurt is hearing a case legislating the sale of video games to minors. <.< the jest of the article is that California is trying to pass a law banning the selling of "Violent" video games like COD Halo GOW etc to minors... Though they have tried 2 times before(according to article) and failed as the Supreme Court say it was unconstitution NOW they are looking and saying video game don't file under the 1st amendment(freedom of speech) they say games lack serious literary, artistic, political, or scientific value for minors *cough*idiots*cough* And it seems that 11 other states support California which are Connecticutm Florida, Hawaii, Minnesota, Mississippi, Texas, Louisiana, Illionois, Maryland, Michigan, and Virgina. ANyways discuss this unright BS and anything esle you feel needs to be said about this (if you have a gameinformer than read the article)
fenrir
At first I was like 'lol'. Then I saw Florida in the list.
Spoon
Banning violent video games from minors? Oh, that... I guess we have that law in Germany since... some years now And you know what? I totally agree with it. It would deep-clean the common shooters like Modern Warfare from so called "kiddies" (well, in reality, it wouldn't, because it's not that hard to ask a grown-up to buy it for you... but it's a nice wishful thinking), and it should protect the children from absurd bloody violence ("Manhunt", just to throw in a random name... that game is banned completely in Germany, meaning it's illegal to sell it). The actual problem are the poeple who try to achieve that this becomes written law... They most of the time have no clue about video games and state, like you said, that: "games lack serious literary, artistic, political, or scientific value for minors." That's simply not true. But overly violent games (Another random name of a game which is banned in Germany: "Gears of War") on the other hand don't even try. There are a few exceptions of bloody games that entertain and hold some artistic value ("American McGee's Alice" as a prime example), but those are pretty rare. What I'm trying to say is: Yes, ban highly violent video games from minors all over the world (Not only in Germany and Australia), but try to bring someone into the board of that rating company who actually knows what he or she is talking about to prevent excessive banning of titles which didn't deserve it (in this case I'd name the "Halo" Franchise... there isn't even blood in it). So long, Spoon
Flame Dragon
But isn't the whole point of the age rating system so little kids can't go out and buy Halo on their own? I mean a long time ago TAG, another friend, and myself were buying a T rated game and they asked for ID. So really minors shouldn't be able to buy the "adult" games anyway. Jacoby746
Most, if not all stores have a rule that minors can't buy M games without adult concent anyway, so this law is a stupid idea. And games like CoD can teach you history (like WaW).
