Time Psyduck
Welcome to my Yugioh fan fiction. This is a new story, separate from the anime and manga but using cards from them, and may also reference them, depending on whether or not I decide to. Abbreviations used in duels: LP: Life points SC: Speed Counters
“...and there it is! The champion’s signature monster, Despair Dragon!” the announcer cried, as the audience cheered from the stands. As the light faded, a large black reptilian creature emerged, with large, crooked and leathery wings which seemed to be flapping slowly, almost as if the creature itself were too tired to fly. Fortunately, it didn’t really need to, since it was a holographic projection, and thus cruised around the stadium because it was staying stationary relative to the black motorcycle, alongside a massive humanoid figure which seemed to consist of various old-fashioned looking combat aircraft. The rider’s head was hidden by his helmet, apart from his mouth, which gave a smirk. “Despair dragon, attack Gale,” the rider ordered. The dragon heaved itself around and turned to a small yellow and green bird-like creature with blue-feathered wings. The creature seemed to almost panic in the face of the large dragon, which unleashed a stream of purple flames towards it. The other rider, on a navy-blue runner, reached to a button next to a slot holding a face-down card. “I activate Magic Cylinder!” he called, “negating your attack and dealing the damage back to you!” Two cylinders appeared, one catching the flames, which then issued from the other and engulfed the first rider. The display board showed his life points fall from 3600 down to a mere 1000 – behind his opponent, with 1600, and dangerously close to losing the duel. “And the Challenger makes a desperate save, keeping his remaining life points safe and his monster on the field until the next round. Will he be able to make a reversal and finally take the title from the champion Allan?” ‘Allan’ seemed as though he might be disappointed. “I’d hoped you could give me a Challenge,” he declared, “but this was too easy. I activate my face-downs, Limit Reverse, allowing me to bring back Trap Reactor Y FI to the field one more time” - an old-style aircraft emerged onto the field – “and Synchro Materials, letting me use your monsters for a Synchro Summon. “Now I tune Blackwing Gale the Whirlwind with Trap Reactor Y FI to Synchro Summon Dark Strike Fighter!” A blast of white light burst over the black rider’s head. From it emerged a humanoid machine, also seeming to resemble an aircraft. “And with this card’s effect, the duel is over. Now I can release a monster and deal 200 points of damage for each of that monster’s levels. I release Flying Fortress SKY FIRE, to deal you 1600 points of damage.” The huge figure, which had sat silent before, seemed to stall, the rotors on its shoulders stopping, and the huge contraption beginning to topple downwards. The second machine flew into it and pushed it headlong towards the blue-clothed rider, who could only watch as the holographic thing was thrown into him. His life points rolled to 0, and smoke issued from his runner as it pulled up, before the holographic machine surrounding him faded. “And it’s over!” the announcer screamed. “The champion Allan Blake has used his trap cards and sacrificed his monsters to finish another Challenger. Can anyone take this boy down?” Allan ignored the man. To be honest he was tired of them. These people weren’t a Challenge; they were rich kids who thought they were good because they could buy the best cards. They weren’t that different from Allan, if he thought about it, since he was also a rich kid with access to rare and powerful cards, although in his case he held an extremely rare dragon, and the rest of his deck wasn’t out of the reach of anyone who was willing to spend a little on a decent deck. It was probably a minor miracle people hadn’t been copying it yet. He didn’t stop in the pit, or to talk to the reporters. They must have been used to it by now – he never gave interviews post duel, and the only time he did speak to the media was at press conferences arranged by the championship organisers, who weren’t going to let him waste the publicity he gave them more than he did. He cruised out onto a quiet back street, intending to get well clear of the stadium before he rejoined the main roads. As he turned another corner, another duel runner came into sight. The figure on it seemed to slow, letting Allan catch up, before matching his speed. “Allan Blake?” the figure asked, in an accent that contained a hint of Welsh. Like the boy he had just duelled, the rider was in dark blue, although his runner was long, with very smooth lines, almost like the waves out over the ocean, in contrast to the somewhat more mechanical look of Allan’s runner. “Who wants to know?” he asked back, harshly. “I’ll take that as a yes, since if you weren’t you’d have denied it, maybe even joked if it were your nature,” the rider replied, “but still, it would be rude not to introduce myself. My name is Dylan Jones, and I’m here with a proposition for you.” Allan sighed. Not another one of these, he thought. Usually, if someone had a proposition for him, it involved a duel somewhere. He doubted that this time would be different. “I represent Slayer, and we’d like you to join us.” Slayer? The group that goes around and cleans up duel gangs? Why would they want me to join them? I’m a strong duelist, but I don’t see why they’d seek me out - after all, I’m not one of those duelists that speaks out over gangs. “Why would I want to do that?” Allan questioned, rounding a corner and heading down a street lined with the cards of local residents. “Because the turbo duelling championship is getting boring isn’t it?” Dylan asked. This surprised Allan. He was getting fed up with the lack of a Challenge, but it wouldn’t help the championship’s organisers to have him telling the audience that he found it easy, so he usually had to make something up about his opponents being ‘strong competitors’ or some such nonsense. He hadn’t expected anyone to see through it, and then to figure out it was boring. “‘Allan Blake, born 23 May 1989, only child of the head of Blake Industries. Primarily raised by domestic staff at the family estate, who report him as being hard to keep occupied. Began duelling in the junior leagues age 7, moved to the turbo leagues as soon as he qualified. Rarely seen to show enthusiasm for his duels, frequently complains that his opponent’s do not present a Challenge.’ You see, Mr Blake, we’ve done our research. We know you want a better Challenge, and we want Duelists of your calibre.” “Why, can’t you duel?” “Of course we can. The problem we have is that our group is small, and we’re very busy, so when we find someone of your skill we want them to join us.” “So say I did want in, what happens then?” “Well, you’ll have to duel one of us. We have to know you’re up to our level, but I suspect that you’ll easily be good enough. You’re free to think about it – we’ll send someone to you in a couple of days.” “I have a deck, so why don’t we duel now? There’s a practice circuit nearby where we won’t be disturbed.” “If you’re ready, there’s nothing stopping us” Dylan replied, following the other rider. They soon arrived at a circuit, the same size and shape as the one at the stadium, but with only a single small stand. Floodlights switched on as the runners rolled onto the circuit. Both riders activated the field spell which would turn the coming duel into a turbo duel, and rapidly accelerated. “Duel!” they called out, almost simultaneously.
Despair Dragon Level 7/DARK/Synchro/Effect/ATK 2600/DEF 2000 1 DARK Tuner + 1 or more DARK non-Tuner monsters. This monster cannot attack your opponent directly. Whilst this card is face-up on the field, no other monster can declare an attack. Control of this face-up card cannot switch. Dark Strike Fighter In this series, Dark Strike Fighter's effect can only be activated once per turn, and cannot tribute itself. Therefore it's less powerful than the real card, and so Allen can use it Synchro Material

As the floodlights on the practice lap, Dylan and Allen accelerated their runners, whilst drawing five cards from their decks to form their opening hand. On the screen of each runner, an image of the Speed World 2 field spell showed up on screen, before being replaced by a display of the field. “Duel,” the both called, reaching dueling speed. Dylan: LP 4000, SC 0 Allan: LP 4000, SC 0 Allan swept ahead of the blue runner, rounding the curve at the end of the track. “I’ll move first,” he declared, drawing another card to add to his hand, “and I’ll start with this monster face-down, and one other face down card. Now, let’s see if you’re really any good.” “This is your exam,” Dylan pointed out, “so I’ll draw.” Both Players gained a speed counter, (Allan SC:1, Dylan SC:1) and first of all I’ll summon Deep Sea Diva.” A mermaid-like creature, its fish like lower body and fins coloured red but fading to pink, appeared on the field, apparently singing. (ATK 200) “Now when I summon this monster, I get a low-level sea serpent from my deck. And I think I’ll bring this one out. I special summon Pod Kraken to the field.” The mermaid waved her arm, and a maroon squid-like creature emerged on the field. (ATK 700) “Now I tune my level 2 Deep Sea Diva with my level 3 Pod Kraken,” he continued, “When the depths of the ocean are revealed, its ruler will bring fury to the land. Synchro Summon! Emerge, Sea Dragon Lord Gishilnodon!” The mermaid vanished in light, being replaced by two green rings, which surrounded the squid. It in turn seemed to become a line drawing of itself with three points of light along its length. A beam of light ran through the points, and then expanded out of the ring. As the light faded, a pale blue dragon came into sight, water apparently falling from it as it began to fly. (ATK 2300). “And because I sent Pod Kraken to the graveyard, I can special summon another one from my deck.” Another of the squid-like creatures appeared on the field alongside the dragon (ATK 700). “And now Gishilnodon will attack your face-down monster,” he called, the monster responding by leaping forwards and rushing towards Allan. A card appeared alongside his runner, and turned over, revealing a blue ghost-like steam locomotive, which was instantly shattered into shards of light. “Very well,” Allan declared, “but since you flipped Dekoichi the Battlechanted Locomotive face-up I get to draw one more card.” I could have used my face-down, but I’d rather wait another turn to set up properly, and I’d rather save that for a monster that matters. “But since your field is open,” Dylan pointed out, “Pod Kraken can attack you directly.” The squid leaped forwards and slammed itself into Allan’s runner, robbing him of 700 life points (Allan: LP 3300). “Then I’ll set a card face-down and end my turn.” “My turn,” Allan continued, drawing again. (Allan SC:2, Dylan SC:2) “And since I have 2 speed counters I can activate the speed spell Angel Baton, allowing me to draw 2 cards, and then discard one from my hand, so I’ll send Summon Reactor SK to my graveyard, and then I’ll summon Spell Reactor RE from my hand.” A dragon like machine, with several bombs suspended from its underside, emerged alongside Allan’s runner. (ATK 1200) “You may regret that last attack, because now Spell Reactor can take out your pod. Now, Spell Reactor, attack Pod Kraken.” The draconic machine rushed towards the squid, and despite the sea creature’s efforts it was smashed apart. (Dylan LP: 3500) “You’re not the only one who can get something from losing a monster, or did you forget Pod Kraken can get out another one if it’s sent to the graveyard? I think I’ll bring this one out in defence position.” Another squid appeared, this one a ghostly blue, and with its arms folded in, making the whole creature an oval shape. (DEF 1000) Allan face didn’t move. “Whatever happened to that thing, you’d most likely get to replace it, but now you’re deck is out of them. Anyway, I’ll play another face-down and end my turn.” Now it begins, he added, to himself. “My turn,” Dylan began, drawing a card as the speed counters rose once more (Dylan SC: 3 Allan SC: 3), “and I’ll summon Mermaid Knight to the field in attack position,” he continued, as another mermaid, this one with a green lower body and a crossbow, appeared alongside his runner. (ATK 1200) “Now this monster comes with a very useful effect,” he explained, “letting me equip a low-level monster, such as Pod Kraken, to this card to give her 800 more points.” The squid opened its tentacles from its oval shape, and turned back to its regular colour, before Mermaid Archer leaped into the air and landed on it, tail wrapped around its body. “Now, let us do battle once more. Mermaid Archer, attack his spell reactor.” The mermaid raised her crossbow, took aim, and fired a dart that struck the metal beast in the head as it turned to face its foe, causing it to detonate in a huge explosion. (Allan LP:2500) Or so it seemed. Spell reactor exited the smoke unharmed, and oddly enough there was another monster now on the champion’s field. Like the first, it was a machine, but this was somewhat more humanoid, aside from the propellers on its shoulders. “You activated my trap,” Allan explained, “fake explosion. It protects my monster from destruction, and lets me bring Summon Reactor SK from my graveyard-” “-That you put there with Angel Baton last turn,” Dylan finished, “thus meaning you don’t lose any cards from your hand. Good move, but now your monsters are open. Gishilnodon, take out Summon Reactor.” Dylan’s other monster surged forwards, barely giving the new monster time to reach the field before it was smashed back to where it came from. (Allan LP: 2200) “I’ve disrupted you enough, so I’ll just add two more face-down cards, and leave it at that for the turn,” Dylan finished, two more cards briefly appearing skimming over the road. Allan rounded the curve. “My draw,” he called, both players hitting 4 speed counters, “and I begin by summoning Trap Reactor Y FI from my hand.” Yet another antique-looking machine, this green and somewhat humanoid, but with several guns attached to it, took flight alongside the other reactor. “And now, I activate my face-down card, Powerful Rebirth, letting me bring Summon Reactor back to the field with more power than before.” The second machine came back to the field, taking a central position (ATK 2100, Lv6). “It’s here,” Dylan noted quietly, his voice lost over the sound of the engines and the track. “Now I can activate Summon Reactor SK’s ability, allowing me to combine all three of my monsters in order to summon Flying Fortress SKY FIRE!” Allan’s voice rose for the first time, as the three monsters combined to form a single immense humanoid robot, which flew over and behind Allan’s runner. (ATK 3000). “Now it’s time for this card’s ability. By discarding a card from my hand I can destroy one of your cards, and I think I’ll take out your Sea Dragon Lord.” The huge mechanical figure loomed above the dragon, and several guns on it opened fire. “Not so fast!” Dylan called, hitting two buttons on his runner, “I activate my face-down card, Level Retuner and Aegis of the Ocean Dragon Lord, meaning that Gishilnodon’s level falls to three, and it, along with my other monsters, cannot be destroyed this turn.” As the smoke of the blast cleared the pale dragon was still on the field, gliding alongside the blue runner. “You monsters may be safe, but your life points aren’t. SKY FIRE, attack Mermaid Archer,” Allan countered, his massive flying machine launching its armaments at the mermaid. Luckily for her, they didn’t seem to strike her, but several sliced through Dylan’s runner as he took a hit (Dylan LP: 2500). “Next I’ll place one more card face down and leave it there,” he added, ending his turn. “My move then,” Dylan called, drawing his card (Dylan SC:5, Allan SC:5). Perfect, he thought to himself, before summoning a monster. “I bring out Spined Gillman in attack position,” he called. A blue figure appeared, with arms and legs but also spines and a fish-like tail (ATK 1300+400=1700) “Shame he won’t stay,” Allan cut in. “I activate Flying Fortress SKY FIRE’s effect, destroying your new monster and giving you 800 points of damage for the trouble.” The blue fish-man was cut down by a spray of bullets, vanishing as soon as he arrived (Dylan LP: 1700). “Just what I was hoping for,” Dylan replied, smiling. “Now Gishilnodon’s attack power rises up to 3000, matching your fortress point for point.” The white dragon seemed to fly higher, on a level with the massive mechanical man, and gave out a roar. “Of course, I’m not done. I activate my trap card Call of the Haunted, letting my Gillman come back again, and give each of my monsters a bonus 400 points.” The fish-man returned to the field once more (ATK 1700), giving both of Dylan’s other monsters a boost. (Mermaid Archer: ATK 2400, Sea Dragon Lord Gishilnodon ATK 3400) “And with that,” the blue-suited rider continued, “Gishilnodon has enough power to smash your monster apart. Gishilnodon, take out his sky fire!” The dragon rushed forward and headlong into the composite machine. The dragon tore through it, causing it to tumble and fall, seeming to narrowly miss Allan, who swerved clear just in time. (Allan LP 1800) “I’m afraid I have two more monsters,” Dylan replied as she shot past the black runner, “and you have none. It seems I win, so Mermaid Archer, finish him off!” As the mermaid raised her crossbow, Allan reached for a card in his hand. Suddenly, a strange creature, consisting of a tiny body and a large pendulum-like arm carrying a bell appeared on the champion duelist’s field. As the bell chimed, the Mermaid’s attack stopped dead. “When you declare a Direct Attack,” Allan explained, “I can special summon Battle Fader from my hand to negate that attack and end your battle phase.” “Now that’s a new one,” Dylan noted, “I’ve watched a lot of your duels, and I haven’t seen you use that monster before.” “Until now, I haven’t needed to,” Allan explained, “since none of my opponents could even get close enough that I’d have to worry about direct attacks.” “Still,” Dylan continued, “I don’t need to attack to win. I activate Speed World 2’s effect, allowing me to remove 4 speed counters to deal 800 points of damage for each speed spell in my hand.” (Dylan SC: 1) “And I have two, so you take 1600 points of damage, leaving you with hardly anything.” Dylan turned his runner around, and, running backwards, a beam of light fired from the front, right into his opponent. (Allan LP: 200) “I’ll end my turn there,” he concluded, his runner slipping back behind Allan’s due to the loss of speed counters, “your move”. Allan paused for a moment before drawing, to assess the situation. This is a dangerous situation, he reasoned, he has three powerful monsters out on the field whilst all I have is Battle Fader. If he gets any way to deal direct damage next turn, or even if I can’t find a way to stop his monsters, I lose. It’s come down to this turn then. Hahaha. For the first time in so long, I have to make a comeback. Here goes then... “Got it!” he shouted, looking at his card. “I summon the tuner monster Black Salvo, and with this card’s effect I can bring Trap Reactor Y FI back from the Graveyard as well.” What seemed to be a large black bomb emerged onto the field, (ATK 100) and spat out four smaller bombs, which detonated, covering the area in thick smoke. When the smoke cleared, the aircraft like monster had returned to the field (DEF 800). “I’m not fool enough to assume you’re going to aim for defence with that,” Dylan commented. “And you’d be right. I tune my Black Salvo with my Trap Reactor Y FI. The past’s hope fades against the future’s terror. Synchro Summon! Attack, Dark Strike Fighter!” The bomb turned into three green rings, and the aircraft drifted into it, becoming a line drawing of itself, with four points of light within. A beam of light passed though each point, before filling the rings. Another mechanical humanoid, similar to the previous one, emerged from the light, cruising above Allan’s runner. (ATK 2600) “And now for its effect, which means I can tribute Battle Fader to hit you for 200 points of damaged,” Allan explained, as the mechanical man seemed to throw the fiend right into Dylan. (Dylan LP: 1500). “And now Dark Strike Fighter will attack. Dark Strike Fighter, take out Spined Gillman.” The monster responded by rushing at the blue fish-man, who attempted to raise his trident in defence, but to no avail as it was smashed apart. (Dylan LP: 600) “You did well, but it wasn’t enough,” Dylan pointed out. “I still have 600 life points, and next turn you won’t have any.” Next turn I can activate the speed spell High Speed Crash, allowing me to destroy my Pod Kraken to take out his fighter and leave him open for a direct attack. “You’re out of time, Allan.” But Allan was smiling. “Not quite yet,” he replied, “This was a good duel, and I appreciate the fact that you’ve given me a Challenge, but I’ve won this duel. I activate my trap card Star Shift! This lets me return a synchro monster to my extra deck, and in return I get another one of the same level. So now Dark Strike Fighter will return to make way for Despair Dragon!” The fighter vanished, and in its place emerged the huge, black, and seemingly lazy dragon, which gave a half-hearted roar as it emerged (ATK 2600). “Now,” Allan continued, spinning his runner and gliding backwards to see his opponent, “It’s still my battle phase, so let’s keep battling. Despair Dragon, attack Mermaid Archer with Flames of Hopelessness!” The dragon took a breath, and issued purple flames from its mouth, which rushed towards the Mermaid. The squid beneath her shattered, shielding her, but it couldn’t save Dylan’s last life points (Dylan LP: 0) The blue runner burst into smoke, a red cross was splashed over the screen, and it came to a screeching halt. The effect only lasted a few second – designed to give an obvious signal of victory for professional turbo duels, the smoke didn’t actually affect the runner, and the stop was simply to let the other duelist perform a victory lap, although it was useful to catch criminals who tried to duel their way to freedom, as they would almost never disengage the system. Allan cruised around and stopped alongside the stationary runner. “I have to thank you for that. It’s not often I get someone even close to your level of skill to fight, and I actually enjoyed that duel.” Dylan removed his helmet, revealing reddish-blond hair. “I’m glad to hear it, and I’m pleased to say that you’ve passed the test. If you’re still interested, Slayer has a place for you.” He offered a hand to Allan, who took it firmly. “If any of these duel gangs are half as good as you, it’d be my pleasure,” he replied. “So when does this job start then.” “You’ll get the full introduction in two days time. You don’t have a duel that day, so I trust you’ll have the time for us.” As he spoke, he put the helmet on again, and re-mounted his runner. “I’ll see you soon, Allan Blake,” he added, before gunning his runner and heading off into the night. “Well that was fun,” Allan muttered, as he too set off, “I guess now I just have to wait and find out whether or not his little group really exists.” On Dylan’s runner, the screen changed to show a young woman, probably about Dylan’s own age, wearing a red riding suit and with shoulder-length blond hair. “Well, did he go for it,” She asked in an American accent. “He said yes. We’ll give him the introduction during the time you two were to duel.” “You know I might still have wanted to duel him. He is a champion you know, and I can’t let you have all the fun.” “I’m sure you’ll get to face him sooner or later, but I don’t think he’s the kind of person we can keep waiting for much longer than we already are, and neither is James.” The girl was defeated. “I guess so. I suppose I’ll just have to duel him some other time. I’ll see you tomorrow then.” The screen went blank, and Dylan continued to ride though the night. Time Psyduck
Second chapter added. There's a duel in this one. I apologise if it's a bit long - I'll try and split the duels up in future to reduce the length. The first two chapters were originally one section, and I split then to try and reduce it a little.
