My theory (almost fact) regarding the 48 Hour YCM Blackout.

J-Max

Question

FD, please do not lock this as I am about 98% certain of why YCM blacked out for 48 Hours.

I frequent 2 well known Piracy forums and recently they lost almost thier whole Database due to a Hack by a unknown party.

These Forums use IP Board. Unluckily for the 2 sites they had no backup server. Something tells me that YCM may have shared the same fate. Luckily this Forum had a backup. YCMaker, may I suggest double checking all Security and perhaps backing up the Server again.

It's interesting. Gaia or World of Warcraft forums would be an ultimate goal though.

YCM may have been victim to such a hacker, though I doubt anyone would
find a benefit in actually hacking anything in the first place?

It's seems odd that someone would do this, but a server down because of a hacker?
It could just have been faults with the IP boards, maybe it had a bug,
crashed, overloaded or just went through a repairing phase.

Not too sure, it wasn't a big deal the server went, but if the forum is in danger of hackers,
then the Forum might need safety features implemented, especially since members may
use the same password for multiple accounts such as: hotmail, yahoo or social sites.

It's was due to a fault in the cloud hosting storage servers, took Gigenet a while to remedy the issue. Nothing I could do but wait for them to fix it.

There is the official answer.
