Actually, my secondary school had a 5 period day, with lunch between the 4th and 5th periods. It depends a lot on when the day starts - if it starts and finishes earlier lunch may be later in the day in comparison to another. Also, number of classes is likely to depend on the length - fewer classes just means each is longer.

What we really need is some sort of timetable.

Joe assistance! this is what i think, each period is 45 minutes long and each block is an hour and a half long.

1 block=2 periods

Periods:

1/Block 1a

2/Block 1b

3/Block 2a

4/block 2b

5/Block 3a

6/Block 3b

Lunch(about 40 minutes)

7/Block 4a

8/Block 4b

that's what I use in my school since some classes take two periods we call that a block XD

That leads out to about a 6 and a half hour day.

Oh and if you want to my character is in latin now.

Alice is now in Latin too. It seems a suitably difficult subject to be put off until the last year, especially for someone out of school a lot before.

The block thing in the timetable seems redundant, since you could just have classes take two consecutive periods (my schools did that). Our periods were 1 hour though, so more of your classes might need more than one period.
