NOTE: Okay i know i'm not any good at both writing or taking critiscism (unless i perceive it as constructive), but i tried really hard with this and hope there are at least some positives about it, anyway enjoy.

So this is my latest Fan Fiction. It is a Yu-Gi-Oh Fic that takes a new storyline/setting and dueling experience into account. New characters and cards are included in this. The first chapter may be confusing as it talks of "Ranks" Don't worry I will be explaining this when i upload the "Basic Info." Section, but here is Chapter 1, The Start to the Kings of Games.

The World: Pretty much the same as the GX world, however slightly more technologically advanced

The Cards: Most will be custom made, however there will be existing cards In there

What are “Duellist teams?”: This is basically the centre plot of the story. Ranks are given to official Duellist Teams who had registered to start a team. The teams hold within it 3 -12 members and then provide a name to distinguish themselves from other groups, the main goal of these teams is to gain reputation and rise in rank.

What are “Ranks?”: Ranks are what classify the strength of a duelling team. The more skilled the higher ranked they are, there are 4 Ranks:

• Local Rank – known Within a city or town
• Regional rank – known Within a suburban area or parameter
• National Rank – known Within a State
• Multinational Rank – known Within a country
• Ultranational Rank – known Within the world.

What is “Reputation?”: reputation is what is gained by teams, teams aim to gain reputation and furthermore move up in rank. Reputation is given by winning any duelling type of activity, from a tournament to a single match. The amount of reputation given is dictated by the competing duellists prior to the match or the tournament holder. When a team loses duels, they lose Reputation.

How do they Rise in Rank?: Teams rise in rank when gained a certain amount of Reputation and team members. To rise in rank, the duellists need the following:

• Local Rank – Register for team, minimum 3 members
• Regional Rank – 300 Reputation points, minimum 4 members
• National Rank – 1,000 Reputation points, minimum 5 members
• Multinational Rank – 5,000 Reputation points, minimum 6 members
• Ultranational Rank – 20,000 Reputation points, minimum 7 members

Domino City stood majestically and brilliant as cars swiftly moved along streets and crowds of people walked on the foot paths heading to their desired destinations. Giant posters of Duel Monsters cards were seen in various spots of the city, on buses, skyscrapers and shops were common examples. Card shops were performing their usual erratic sale days as many kids visited the shops purchasing various card packs and devices.

The sky projected a peaceful blue with minimal clouding to be seen, the sun shone over the outskirts of Domino City where a new story would be told. This story took place in a harbour like environment with many worn down facility buildings surrounding the outskirts. The ocean blue water pressed and crashed into the cement wall that secured the water in place. As a formed waved crashed a metre below the top of the cement ground, large portions of water drops soared in the air glistening in the sun’s rays and landing on the face and jacket of a boy no more than 17 who walked along the cement ground.

The boy stood at 5”9 and wore a tight black shirt and red vest jacket with a white collar, the boy continued to walk, carrying around his shoulders a black back pack. His short black hair bore with it a strain going down the middle of his face, it was also spiked at the back and quite flat at the top aside from the left side of the top of his head in which a line of hair spiked up, he also had the black hair on the side where his ears were going across his face slightly. It also had shades of yellow on the edges of big strains. His black eyes emitted signs of focus as he walked on not paying attention to the water that had just engulfed the side of his face. He had quite tanned skin and a skinny build. He also wore black tight jean like pants and a white belt along with white shoes.

He walked on with his hands in his pockets while his silver necklace bounced off his chest, the centre of the necklace was replaced by a silver rectangle that looked as if it held something inside it, engraved on the rectangle was, “Zakurai Fuma”. The boy known as Zakurai stopped as he looked on at the distance, noticeably about 100 metres away was a crowd of people surrounding a small stage that appeared to be a duelling field. The crowd were cheering loudly as 2 figures stood on the field.

As Zakurai was preparing to walk forward his right shoulder had moved forward unwillingly as he was nudged from behind by someone walking the same way as him. Noticeably the person payed no attention to his action and had brown hair. He was wearing a red jacket and grey pants.

“Hey watch where your-“ Zakurai began to call out. He stopped however as he noticed an upside down Duel Monsters card that lay on the ground a metre in front of him. Zakurai looked up to the brown haired boy that nudged him to see if he would respond to the dropped card, however the kid continued to walk on.

Zakurai walked to the laying card, as he approached he knelt down on one knee and observed the back, a little note was written in black on the card saying “This card will be of great use to you, so be ready to get your game on!” Zakurai flipped the card over revealing a “Knight Kuriboh” Duel Monsters card.

[b]Picture:[/b] A small circular ball of brown hair, holding a small silver shield on its back. The shield was slightly bigger than the hairball’s body. The fur ball had 2 big glowing eyes and was supported by a background of images of glistening sparks.

[b]Effect:[/b] While this card is in your hand and your opponent selects a monster you control as an attack target, Special Summon this card from your hand and have the monster attack this card. When this card is removed from the field gain any damage you would take this turn.

Zakurai observed the card for a brief moment then looked up.

“Hey di-“ He stopped once again as the boy had disappeared. Zakurai stood up and looked at the card once again. “Knight Kuriboh huh?” Zakurai released a light smile as he reached into the pockets of his jeans and took out a deck of cards, he then placed the card within the deck and returned it to his pocket. Zakurai looked up and continued to walk towards the crowd of people.

Upon arriving he stood at the back of the crowd, he was however unable to get a clear sight of the events taking place that resulted in the crowd’s applause. Pushing and shoving Zakurai finally made it to the front of the crowd standing in the front row and practically touching the very field that held a man on each side. One was wearing a grey suit and tie, he also had a cheeky grin and had short brown hair. He stood at 6 foot 2 inches making the person on the other side of the field seem much smaller in comparison. The other individual was wearing a yellow shirt and brown pants, he appeared to be close to 20 and stood at the same height as Zakurai. They both wore duel disks on their arms.

The crowd seemed to be in favour of the man in the grey suit as they all faced him with smiles and loud cheers. Noticeably, 2 holograms of monsters that were in front of him had disappeared, the hologram of the man wearing a yellow shirt’s Life Points showed it descend as it went from 500 to 0.

The man fell to his knees as he whispered to himself. “I lost…”

The man in the grey suit didn’t brighten his opponent’s loss as he continuously laughed while folding his arms.

Zakurai listened to two men talking next to him.

“Wow he really is great!” one man said causing the other to nod.

“No wonder his in a National Ranked team.” The other man replied, Zakurai faced the two men with a confused stare.

“Hey, who’s this guy?” Zakurai asked causing the men to look at each other with slight confusion.

“Who is he? His one of the few National Ranked members of a National Ranked team in the city! Where have you been?!”

Zakurai faced the man wearing a grey suit. “National Ranked eh.” He whispered to himself as the man faced the cheering crowd and began to speak.

“And yet again I have won , anyone else foolish enough to challenge Julio a National Ranked duelist?” The man’s voice was quite posh and arrogant as he faced the crowd not expecting a reply, to his shock however Zakurai began crawling onto the field. Zakurai stood up and wiped the dust off his pants.

“You? You’re just a kid?” Julio stated with a mocking tone, Zakurai stood straight up and faced him, a light smile was brought in his face as he swung his bag around and pulled out a duel disk, he then equipped it onto his arm and walked to the other side of the field.

“You’re serious kid? Okay, you’re only building up my reputation.” The crowd roared in applause as Zakurai took out his Deck from his pocket and put it in the appropriate slot in the duel disk, he then opened the silver rectangle on his necklace and took out a Duel monsters card, he then put the card in the deck and looked up at his opponent who was also equipped with his duel disk.

They both smiled, Julio’s one of mocking and contempt, Zakurai’s, one of confidence and enthusiasm.

A hologram display appeared above the 2 showing, “4000 LP”, the decks then began to shuffle in the deck slot as the crowd cheered on anticipating the match.

They both stood ready to duel calling out in Unison, “Duel!”

The crowd continued to cheer as they watched the duel about to take place although they were favourable of Julio. The two men Zakurai was previously talking to began to shake their heads.

“What does that kid think his doing?” one man said as he chuckled lightly. “He stands no chance against a National Ranked Duellist.”

“ You’re right, this shouldn’t last long.” The other man replied.

Zakurai continued to smirk as the two duellists both drew 5 cards. Julio continued to grin as he stood tall showing off his height.

Zakurai prepared to make the first move and draw a card. “Dra-“ Zakurai stopped as he was interrupted by a light squeak noise with a small echo in the tone.

“oooo”

Zakurai with a slightly confused look, turned his head side to side to find the source of the sound. For a brief minute the crowd’s cheering seemed to be muted, time seemed to stop in his eyes.

“What’s going on?” Zakurai asked himself as he looked to his right, Zakurai released his stance and stood up straight looking at a floating hairball that appeared to be the “Knight Kuriboh” monster he picked up previously. Hovering with its silver shield on its back the Kuriboh didn’t appear to be a hologram. “Knight Kuriboh?” Zakurai asked himself again with a slight shock expression.

The Kuriboh showed signs of happiness in its eyes as it began to repeat it’s squeaking noise.

“oooo”

“What?” Zakurai asked. “I..I can understand you?”

“oooo”

“A duel spirit?” Zakurai questioned as he began to remember the message that was noted on the back of the card.

“This card will be of great use to you…” Zakurai whispered as he then looked up at the happy Kuriboh monster. Zakurai smiled as he folded his arms.

“Alright Kuriboh, you ready to win this duel?!” Zakurai asked in a confident tone causing Knight Kuriboh to squeak cheerfully and sit on Zakurai’s shoulder.

Time seemed to progress fluently again, the sound of the crowd cheering still brought life to the area and Julio was still emitting his degrading grin. Zakurai turned from looking to his right, a confident smile engulfed his face as he faced Julio. Zakurai drew a card from his deck as he called out.

“Draw!”

Zakurai drew a card from his deck, he looked at the card then placed it with the other 5 in his hand.

“I Summon “Belief Protector” in Defence Mode!” Zakurai placed a card Horizontal on his Monster Card Zone, suddenly a hologram began to appear in a light. The hologram began to form into a 3 foot tall warrior holding a small shield in front of him that was the size of his body in height. It was wearing a purple rock like armour suit. A hologram display appeared showing, “1000 DEF”

Once per turn during your Main Phase, you can Equip this card to 1 “Belief” monster you control OR Unequip the union equipment and Special Summon this card. A monster equipped with this card increases its DEF by 1000 and gains the same star level as this card added to its original.

“Next I set one card face down” An image of an upside down duel monsters card appeared in front of Zakurai as he then called out. “End Turn!”

Julio laughed as he then prepared to draw a card.

“Draw.” He said softly.

Julio drew a card from his deck, he then looked up at Zakurai as he placed a Spell card face up in the Spell and Trap card Zone, suddenly a Spell Card appeared Face-up standing vertically in front of Julio.

“I activate, Forced change!”

[b]Effect:[/b] Change the position of one monster your opponent controls, the switched monster is not destroyed by battle the turn you activate this card.

“Due to its effect your monster automatically switches to Attack Mode.”

Zakurai watched as his monster was forced to stand tall, the hologram display showed, “400 ATK."

"Darn” Zakurai stated under his breath as Julio grinned.

“Now I play, “Brute Battleboy” in Attack Mode.” Suddenly a Hologram appeared and formed into a boy about 5 foot tall wearing red armour and black boots, gloves, helmet and belt. The brute had planted both hands on the ground as it knelt down forward.

“Brute, attack his monster!” Julio called as he pointed towards Zakurai’s monster. Brute Battleboy suddenly sprinted forward smashing it’s helmet on the head of “Belief Protector”, Zakurai’s monster remained in the same position as “Brute Battleboy” reverted to its original position.

The hologram showing Zakurai’s Life Points changed from 4000 to 2900

Julio observed the surprised expression in Zakurai’s face

“In case you’re wondering, your monster is not destroyed by battle this turn.” Julio grinned a sinister grin as he continued. “But don’t consider it as a lifeline for you, Brute Battleboy’s effect activate!” Suddenly a second “Brute Battleboy” appeared next to the original.

"A second.” Zakurai stated as he watched on.

“That’s right boy, Brute Battleboy’s effect specifies that when he inflicts damage to my opponent, I can Special summon 1 other Brute Battleboy from my Deck. Go Brute Battleboy attack.”

Suddenly the second Brute Battleboy performed the same action as the first causing Zakurai’s life Points as displayed, to fall from 2900 to 1800.

A third Brute Battleboy appeared and performed the same move causing the display of Zakurai’s Life Points fall once again this time from 1800 to 700.

Julio laughed continuously as the crowd cheered.

“haha boy, I’m a national ranked duellist, you didn’t really think you could win did you? End.”

Zakurai looked on, his confident smile had reverted to a frown. “I didn’t give this guy enough credit, so this is the calibre of a National rank duellist.” He thought to himself as he turned to the Kuriboh on his shoulder.

“oooo” Kuriboh squeaked with a worried tone causing Zakurai to smile and reply.

“If we lose faith then we’ve already beaten ourselves. Don’t worry we aren’t losing this.”

Zakurai turned to his opponent his smile changing to a serious expression as he drew a card calling.

“Draw!"

Seems good so far. I just have three problems.

Firstly, this isn't an original setting. It's Domino City.

Secondly, that Kuriboh's effect is near useless as it doesn't remove itself from the field.

Thirdly, don't put "Get your game on" in here. It's a horrible phrase and doesn't belong if you're not using western names.

Apart from those this looks good and as long as it's consistent it'll turn out to be a good bit of fiction.

PS: Where Zakurai says "National Ranked ay" I'm assuming you meant to write eh instead of ay simply because ay would be pronounced like eye while eh is used at the ends of questions and is pronounced like the letter a.

sorry my bad what i meant by setting is, not more on the lines of place, but i mean thes etting out of the storyline, like it wont be all in an academy or a tournament, there will be common places like domino ctiy but the setting of the storyline is what is hould have specifiedit to be. Made a little error with the effect should include "when destroyed by battle, along those lines ill edit thx for the spot, and yea i hate that phrase to but i put it in more to clarify that it was jaden . Thx for the critique

So.... Here's another chapter. Seems good, at least as far as duels go. As part of the story, it seems to be obvious what will happen in the next chapter, given the situation throughout the chapter. My largest input would be that, even though this is a duel, it holds little plot. All that's been revealed is that Zakurai can see duel spirits, or at least that kuriboh. There's also a little inconsistency here. Julio's last name seems to have changed from Yutop to Yuto. Just pointing it out.[size="1"]This is a generic plea for someone to read my fanfic. It's horribly comment-free. Link in sig. Don't have to though. Seriously. It's your choice.[/size]

KK i'll have a look at ur fic to, well basically the only things u can gather about zakurai is:
* He intends to start a team
* Has won a locals tournament in the past
* has 2 brothers (IMPORTANT!)
* And he can see duel spirits
Actually the plot gets revealed in the next 2 chapters, it'll be revealed then the plot. I'll post them after some editing, and yea the names supposed to be Yuto X/
