J-Max
Good evening YCM. It's great to be back again. Tonight I present a matchup between myself & δαίμονας. The rules are quite simple. We must design a Spellcaster-Type Fusion monster. First to 5 wins. Poll will be set up once we have both cards up. 1 Rep to the Winner. J-Max's cardBlack Majestica"Dark Magician Girl" + "Dark Magician" or 2 or more Spellcaster-Type monsters. When this card is Fusion Summoned successfully, you can put up to 3 Spell Counters on up to 2 cards on the field that you can Place a Spell Counter on. This card's name is also treated as "Dark Magician Girl" and "Dark Magician". When this card declares an attack, you can remove 2 Spell Counters from monsters you control to destroy the attack target without applying damage calculation. δαίμονας's cardsDark Talon BeastWhen this card is Normal Summoned or Flip Summoned, draw a card. If the card is a Spell, discard it to add 1 "Dark Magician" to your hand. If the card is a monster, you lose 500 Life Points. If the card is a Trap, this card gains 600 ATK. Kenju the Dark Talon Master"Dark Magician" + "Dark Talon Beast"Every time a Spell or Trap card is activated, each player send any card with the same name from their Decks to the Graveyard without negating the cards effect. This card gains 200 ATK and DEF for each Spell and Trap card in each players Graveyard. If a Spell or Trap card is removed from the Graveyard due to the effect of a monster, this card loses 200 ATK. If this card is destroyed by the effect of a monster, you lose 1000 Life Points. If this card is destroyed by a Spell card, you can pay Life Points equal to this cards ATK before it was destroyed to Special Summon 1 of the Fusion Material monsters to your field. If this card is destroyed by a Trap card, add 2 Spell or Trap cards from your Graveyard to your Deck. Your Deck is then shuffled.

Zextra
I like both your cards very much! However, δαίμονας's card seems a bit more balanced. J-Max, your card was very good, but wavering slightly towards the OP'ed side. Both your ideas were good, but δαίμονας's card's effect was slightly more creative.Sorry J-Max (you did make a good card, don't get me wrong), but I will have to give my vote to δαίμονας

Guest PikaPerson01
Every time a Spell or Trap card is activated' date=' each player sends any card with the same name from their Deck to the Graveyard [b']without negating the cards effect[/b]. This card gains 200 ATK and DEF for each Spell and Trap card in each players Graveyard. If a Spell or Trap card is removed from the Graveyard due to the effect of a monster, this card loses 200 ATK. Stuff in bold = completely useless text. If this card is destroyed by the effect of a monster' date=' you lose 1000 Life Points.[/quote'] OR! You take 1000 damage. OR! You pay 1000 life points. You lose 1000 Life Points? Bad OCG. If this card is destroyed by a Spell card' date=' you can pay Life Points equal to this cards ATK before it was destroyed to Special Summon 1 of the Fusion Material monsters to your [u']side of the[/u] field. If this card is destroyed by a Trap card, add 2 Spell or Trap cards from your Graveyard to your Deck. Your Deck is then shuffled. Underlined = missing text. On an unrelated note, if it's destroyed by battle, which is logically the most obvious choice of what will happen since its, at best, a late game finisher, you get screwed. I'd rather top deck Smashing Ground then the Dark Magician or Polymerization if I had Dark Talon Beast already in hand. In short, it's effect makes it seem like it's meant to be a late game finisher, but the fact that it's a fusion makes it unlikely to be anything but an early game card. "Dark Magician Girl" + "Dark Magician" or 2 or more Spellcaster-Type monsters. When this card is Fusion Summoned successfully' date=' you can put up to 3 Spell Counters on up to 2 cards on the field that you can Place a Spell Counter on. This card's name is also treated as "Dark Magician Girl" and "Dark Magician". When this card declares an attack, you can remove 2 Spell Counters from monsters you control to destroy the attack target without applying damage calculation.[/quote'] Eh, it's slightly more playable, though not by much. If it could hold counters itself it'd be a winner but since it can't, it's just another mediocre card in a series of 2,000+ other mediocre cards. Considering cards exist that destroy cards at the removal of a counter (ala Arcanite Magician) having only a Catastor effect is slightly underwhelming. Coming to think of it, just using Catastor seems like a much better use of time. In short, I wouldn't waste my extra deck spot on it. I'd rather go for either Catastor, if I needed the Catastor effect, or Arcanite Magician if I ran a Spell Counter heavy deck. Coupled with the fact that it can't add more counters to other cards makes a bad card just reek of laziness. Maybe if it could support the deck more, like "Once per turn during your end phase distribute spell counters equal to the number of spellcasters in your grave" it'd be a worthwhile addition to a deck but as it stands its pretty bad. So... with all that said, if I had to choose a "winner", and I use the term loosely, I'd go with the DMG + DM fusion thing, strictly because it doesn't make a bad deck worse by the inclusion of Dark Talon Beast and it's OCG isn't as bad. inb4 complaints. Guest
OR! You take 1000 damage. OR! You pay 1000 life points. You lose 1000 Life Points? Bad OCG.Eh, it's technically correct - see The Immortal of Thunder for precedent. It's distinct from paying in that it's not a cost and from damage in that cards like Prime Material Dragon don't notice it. Even so, it's really weird wording. Agreed on your other points, though. I'd also like to add that the Dark Talon Beast Fusion thing seems to fall for the common idiot trap of mistaking a really long effect - or, to be more precise, a laundry list of completely random minor effects - for a really well-designed effect. I'm with Pika here; the DMG Fusion gets my vote, but really, this isn't a contest that anyone deserves to win.

It's distinct from paying in that it's not a cost and from damage in that cards like Prime Material Dragon don't notice it. Even so, it's really weird wording. Meh, the Immortal of Thunder comes from the Stupid Ages, back in 2001 where just about every card was garbage and had awful OCG. It only got one reprint in '05, so I assume that's why it was stuck with bad OCG. If you can list a more contemporary example, I'd concede this point. The card I used for precedence here was Aegis of Gaia. Formerly "loose X life points" in Strike of Neos, now "take X damage" in Gold Series 3. Guest
Hmmm, but Prime Material Dragon's rulings specify that it cannot change Immortal of Thunder's LP loss into gain, indicating that LP loss really is a separate valid mechanic and not just a silly way of writing damage. Eh, either way, it hardly matters. The card sucks regardless of whether its OCG is correct or not.
