I got a notification 'cause I posted on your status, and saw that you're playing Pearl? Odds are you don't, but I noticed if you have Platinum the pokeradar/grass shaking looks a bit clearer/brighter than on D/P. Not much of a diff. but just what I noticed.

And I added that fail 'Quest for Shinies' thing on the first post. So if you guys catch anything, post, and I'll rep you. ;D

I'm not really joining this club, but I go for shinies quite often, so I might as well post here occasionally. I will be reading your guide later at night, and if you would like me to add tips, I may. There are three generic methods of getting shinies, and from what I've seen, your guide only covers chaining. No matter.

I will not be posting the method of how I obtained these shinies, but they will be split into two categories: caught (shinies that I have gotten MYSELF), and traded (any shiny that is not mine, but I still have).

All are legitimate, of course.

Caught Shinies

Absol, Bagon, Beldum, Cresselia, Ditto, Eevee, Gastly, Giratina, Heatran, Regigigas, Rotom

Traded Shinies

Articuno, Charmander, Milotic, Zigzagoon, Pichu, Entei, Raikou, Suicune, Breloom, Gyarados, Metagross, Ninjask, Scizor, Skarmory, Absol, Charizard, Gallade

Shinies no Longer in my Posession (traded them away before I had cloning)

Starly, Bidoof, Treecko, Ariados, every other chaining project not listed in "Caught Shinies".

You've got a nice collection there. ;D

And yeah I know of more than one method besides chaining. I find it though most efficient. I assume one of the other methods you're mentioning is the Masuda Method. The other, I'm not sure, so enlighten us. >=D

No, that's fine. I really think you should get rid of all of the evolution chain shinies. For example, if someone catches a shiny Charmander, chances are they won't evolve it. But the fact of the matter is, if they have cloning, they would be able to obtain Charmeleon and Charizard. If they don't have cloning, it's unfair not to count all three, imo. You can still leave your list of 493, but I'd really consider crossing all evolutions for the base Pokemon. If someone catches a Stage 1 Pokemon, the Stage 0 Pokemon should not be crossed out, however. Just my take on things.

There are three (or four) methods of getting shinies.

For PokeRadar Pokemon, you can chain.

For breeding Pokemon, there is, as you mentioned, the Masuda method.

For standing Pokemon, there is soft resetting.

And also for standing Pokemon, there is RNG abuse. RNG abuse also works with ANY wild Pokemon, but is much, much harder than chaining.

There is also random encounter, but that is just random, not a method.

If you'd like, I will revise your chaining guide and breifly add the other two ways of obtaining shinies.

Usually, each summer (for the past two summers, actually), I go on a two-week chaining spree. Didn't have time this year. Maybe during winter vacation I'll dedicate a few hours a day for chaining.

@1st bold: Interesting take on things. I think I'll do that from now on.

@2nd: Yeah that'd be great. ^_^ I know a bit about all the methods, but I'm pretty sure you can go into more depth.

In other news I spent a couple hours chaining yesterday. I though it would be fun to chain lv. 47 Oddish for lulz, cause I happened to be on Route 230. I hit a streak of 39 and lost it. D:
