galeguy45
Default The Dark OrderFirst of all, this is my first Fanfic, so try not to be too harsh ^^. Secondly, Dunno how often I can update it, but I will do as often as I can! This first chapter will be relatively short, but it is just an introduction. Hope you like! ------------------------------------------------------------Chapter 1: A New Beginning "Will you hurry up!? We don't have long to get there!" A scrawny teenager with a large head and dull reddish brown hair let out a yell of surprise and fell out of his bed onto the floor with a loud crash. Groaning and rubbing his head, he turned and glared at the perpetrators: a tall blond male and a heavily built teen with dirty blond hair which fell to his shoulders. He had the look of a punk rocker about him. "What did you do that for, Michael?" the lazy boy asked angrily. Grinning, the male named Michael bent down and smacked him across the back of the head. "Daniel, we are dressed. Josh and David are waiting downstairs for you, so hurry the hell up and get changed! We only have an hour to get to the Academy to apply!" Michael brushed his blond hair, which was falling across his eyes back over his fringe and marched outside. His friend walked slowly over to the window and looked outside. The early morning sun peered through the knarled cluster of trees outside the dingy hotel as though it was shy of its surroundings. There was not a single cloud in the sky. An impatient cough made him look around. Daniel was sitting on his bed looking at him. "James, I dislike getting changed in front of men, would you leave while I do so?" In a take of surprise, James left the room, leaving Daniel to mutter to himself while he pulled on a pair of trousers. Within five minutes, Daniel, having rushed to get changed, met the others waiting in a lounge clutching a stitch, obviously out of breath. The two other males in the vicinity looked younger then Michael and James. The taller of the two was slim, with a large amount of mousy brown hair. The smaller of the two looked slightly geeky, with his round glasses and a crop of blond hair which clashed horribly with his clothes; a top of bright red and black, with a pair of combat trousers. Daniel walked up to him, grinning. "Ready, David you shortarse?" David glared at him; he hated being mocked for his size. As though to ignore David, he attempted to address Michael, who was on his cell phone, but Michael waved him away, obviously engrossed in whoever he was talking to. He didn't have to wait very long; within a few moments Michael hung up. "Deigo's outside in the Ferrari with Chris and Jonathon, lets get going. You guys got everything?" The rest nodded except Daniel, who smacked himself in the head and ran towards the stairs. "Holy crap I forgot my deck!" ---------------------------------------------------- The sun had risen sufficiently to bask the landscape below in a glaze of playful sunlight. The motorway was almost deserted except for a few cars speeding up it; the most prominent one being the custom made Ferrari roaring down the road. "How much longer Deigo?" Josh asked the driver. He didn't take his eyes off the motorway, but inclined his head slightly to show he heard. He was heavily built with big, muscled arms, and long, jagged brown and blond highlighted hair. It gave him the look of an adult tiger. "About 20 minutes. Its a good thing Chris and Jonathon arrived where I lived with their car, or I wouldn't be able to pick you guys up." David, who was sitting in the back seat with Daniel and Josh, snorted. "How can you afford these things?" He demanded of Chris, who was up front with Michael, Jonathon and James. He looked back at David, his dark eyes full of confidence. He was tall and gangly looking with short dark hair. He shrugged. "Our father is rich and has connections; we just borrowed this for the occasion". Despite their wealth and status, both Chris and Jonathon were friendly and generous people. His brother Jonathon, was shorter then Chris, but was more stocky, with fair hair of similar length. He turned to face Michael. "You know, you still have time to think about that offer". Michael, who was watching the outline of the trees in the background, laughed. "I have told you, my Valkyrie deck is going nowhere. Besides, I need it for the practical exam." Daniel, who was taking a long drink of cola, coughed and spluttered, covering David with a mixture of spit and cola. "WHAT! We have a practical exam?" Josh turned to look at him in amazement. "Of course. My dad told me when he dropped me off at the hotel". Josh's dad was a wealthy businessman who had many different contacts. He wasn't able to bring Josh to the Academy, so instead dropped him off at the hotel which the rest of the group were staying for the night. His dad had warned Michael and James in particular to keep Josh safe, but didn't need to worry; the group were all very good friends. Daniel groaned and covered his fat face with his large hands. Michael glanced back towards him, concerned. Daniel had frequent issues with his self confidence while dueling, and broke down often under pressure. Despite this, Michael knew he was a skilled duelist, despite how often he mocked him. "Relax dude, you'll be fine. I'll be pretty suprised if we don't manage to get in, to be honest". "You still determined then Michael?" James asked his friend. Michael's eyes narrowed slightly at the question. "Obviously. After that humiliating defeat, I decided that this Academy would be the best place to go, to hone my skills." The others looked at each other, wondering what Michael meant, but James understood. A month previously, Michael had challenged his old mentor for a place in the most secretive and powerful organistation in the world; the Phearos Order, of which his teacher was the head of. However, he was easily dispatched by his mentor, who told him to enrol at the Academy for a year to improve his skills. This defeat still dwelt on his mind. Michael was someone whose personality you could call "A tale of two extremes". While he had a psychopathic peronality, and was extremely cruel when he wished to, he was extremely caring, and very protective of his friends. Nobody spoke for a while. Josh had taken his deck out and was analysing it, his face one of pained concentration. Very smart for his age, Josh was the practition in his group of friends. Despite having a childish personality, and often put himself under too much pressure at times, he had a heart of gold, and was devoted to his friends. Next to him, David had taken a book out of his rucksack and was reading. The motorway was now branching out into a main road, and the traffic was thickening. "We are almost there, just gotta take this turnoff" Deigo shouted, to whoops from Daniel. David grabbed his ear and pulled, aggrevated at being put off from his reading. Daniel squealed like a pig stuck in a fence and rubbed his aching ear, as the Ferrari turned the corner. David's mouth dropped open. A colossal building awaited them; it was easily the size of a football stadium. It was very brightly coloured, and clashed magnificently against the dazzling sunlight. Deigo parked the Ferrari in the enormous car park, near the front of the entrance; it seemed to be packed with hundreds of applicants. The group got out, awestruck. James immediately found something of great interest. "Wow, look at all of these babes!" About twenty feet in front of them stood a large group of stunning eighteen year old girls; a generous mixture of blondes and brunettes. For James, who was a self-declared womaniser, this was his heaven. Drooling, he begun to march towards them like a crazed zombie. Laughing, Deigo and Michael (who were used to James' antics having went "on the pull" with him many nights), grabbed him by the arms and steered him away. The others followed them, shaking their heads in embarrassment. David ran to keep up with James and Michael. "So this is the Academy?" He enquired, as they neared the entrance. Panting slightly, Chris joined them. "Nope, this is only the Application hall. I was told that the Academy itself was several hundred miles off the coast". They had reached the entrance now, and the huge double glass doors seemed like a chasm. With a slight intake of breath, James pushed open the door.----------------------------------------------End of Chapter 1. Hope I have done OK Chapter 2: Make or Break James and Michael led the way into the large hall. Tables were lined up in rows throughout the room, and from the considerable number of people who were seated amongst the tables, or sat on the floor, there were a huge number of applicants. They had barely got inside when a voice to their left alerted them. "You guys took your sweet time!" They walked over to the source of the voice; two people waving them over. David addressed the taller of the two. "Someone decided it would be fun to sleep in!" he exclaimed, glaring in Daniel's direction. The recipient, a tall figure with a thick mop of fair hair, grinned at him. "Figures. Well, you are just in time, I was able to reserve places for you guys when I arrived here". He held out a pile of forms to Michael, who took them. "Cheers Levi. And I take you met up with Suzie here?" The female standing next to Levi, clapped sarcastically. Reasonably short, she stood at a lower height compared to her friends around her. Her red hair tied back in a ponytail, she had the look of someone who was good natured. "Obviously. I got here about half an hour ago and had to stand alone in the corner for about twenty minutes before somebody turned up who I knew". Daniel came to stand beside her as he took a form from Michael, who was passing them around to sign. "If you weren't so short, then people would have been able to see you!" He joked. Suzie turned round and punched him, sending him flying. Like David, she disliked jokes being made about her size, and could turn extremely violent at a moments notice. Despite this, she was a kind and usually light-hearted person, who got along with everybody. A small group of specky geeks standing about thirty feet away from them turned at the sound of the noise, but she paid no notice. Laughing, Jonathon pulled a red-faced Daniel to his feet, before addressing Levi. "So where do you hand these things in?" Levi turned and pointed to a large desk at the back of the room, where a group of important looking folk in vivid black uniforms were sitting, receiving forms from eager applicants. Sighing slightly at the fact they would have to walk, Michael led the way to the back of the room, thinking that this applying thing was a lot more hassle it was worth. ---------------------------------------------"So, where the hell are we supposed to be now!?" Josh asked, as the party walked along a long, brightly lit corridor. James was having difficulty keeping up; he was getting distracted by the countless women passing them as they walked by. They finally reached a pair of double doors with the sign above them: "Practical Examination Room" "Woah, what? I thought there was going to be both a written and a practical exam?" David said furiously, as they walked through the double doors into a huge domed room; it looked like a modern Roman Colosseum. The rows of seats surrounding the floor at the bottom were packed with applicants who were waiting for their practical examination. On the floor were different platforms, where applicants were given their examination. The space at the bottom of the room was enormous; there were over forty small compartments where the examination was to take place. Chris sniggered as they walked down the steps leading to the bottom of the stage. "No. The written exam I believe is going to be if we pass this exam and arrive at the Academy". He went ahead, leaving David, who distinctly muttered "but that doesnt make any ******* sense", before following suit. They approached a tall, bearded bloke in a smart black uniform, who was allowing people through into the rooms. He nodded to the group. "Kindly get seated and wait for your name to be called out" he grunted with a hoarse voice which sounded as though he hadn't slept for several years. No sooner did they begin to move torwards the nearest batch of seats did a crisp, clear voice like a sports announcer cut through the air. "Josh Dismore, Daniel Harriz and Kip Median please go to compartments 9,16 and 26". Josh and Daniel moved forwards, looking terrified ; Daniel looked like a radish with bad sunburn. Josh had turned a delicate shade of green. The group loudly cheered them on, although the sentiment was ruined slightly by James jumping up, yelling and running after a stunning red headed female who had just passed them. -----------------------------------------"My draw!" Josh, his hand trembling slightly, drew his card for his turn and analysed his hand thinking. Having been given a stylish Duel Disk, he was immediately thrown into a duel against a stern looking invigilator. He was slightly ahead of his opponent in terms of Life points (2000/1800). However, the examiner had a strong field; a Defense position Big Shield Gardna, a Defense position Marshmallon, and a face up Wave Motion Cannon on one counter, while Josh had nothing. I only have one turn left before that Wave Motion Cannon defeats me, he thought. So I better make this turn count. He considered his options. "I summon White Crusader Shark in Attack Mode!" A fierce looking Great white shark materialized on the field, baring its vicious jaws at the Marshmallon, which quivered in fear (1900ATK/0 DEF). White crusader sharkWater/4 Star/ Aqua/Effect/ 1900ATK/0DEFIf this card attacks, neither player can activate any spell or trap cards until the end of the Damage Step. If this card destroys a Defence Position monster and sends it to the Graveyard as the result of battle, you opponent randomly discards one card from their hand. If this card attacks, it is changed to Defence position at the end of the damage step unless you remove 1 “Shark” card in your graveyard from play. Josh smiled; he had the victory in sight now. "And now, I activate the spell card, El Nino! El NinoSpell CardTribute 1 WATER monster on your field and pay half of your life points. Destroy all cards on your opponents side of the field, then inflict 600 points of damage to his/her life points for each of their cards which were destroyed. By sacrificing one WATER monster on my side of the field, plus half my Life points (Joshes LP: 1000) It destroys every card on your side of the field!" The examiner looked on in shock as a torrent of water blitzed the field, destroying his two monsters and his Cannon, which exploded. He looked at his hand; just one card; a picture of a legendary looking warrior in a dark cloak with red exterior. It doesn't really matter. As soon as this kid launches an attack, I will be able to unleash this on him; Gorz, Emissary of Darkness. He looked up to see Josh grinning at him. "What?" He enquired. Josh pointed at the tidal wave which was sweeping towards the examiner. "I forgot to mention. El Nino not only destroys every card on your field, but it inflicts 600 points of damage to your life points per card!" The examiner blanched. It was game over; he could not summon Gorz while his life points were gone. He smiled at Josh. "Excellent play. Welcome to the Academy!". Giddy with relief, Josh left his compartment to come face to face with Daniel, Suzie and Levi, who all looked equally happy. "I passed, I take you guys did too?" Suzie rolled her eyes at him. "No, we all failed, what do you think? Of course we passed! Chris had the easiest time of it, he took out his opponent on his very first turn". Josh stuck his tounge out at her as they walked to compartment 35. "Michael's test is just beginning, hes the only one left. The rest are waiting with the people which have already qualified." They waited outside patiently. "You think Michael's going to win his match?" Suzie asked Levi. He laughed quietly to himself as he pulled out his deck. Levi was a keen strategist, and he loved to innovate. He enjoyed thinking up new ways to use his Batterymen, and despite having times of low confidence, he was a clever tactician. "Well, if he doesn't, I owe David £20!" They all laughed. -------------------------------------------------------------Michael stood confidently as he faced his opponent; a tall, young adult male with spikey black hair. He looked as though he was only a student for a short time, but as Michael knew from experience, looks can be deceiving. He had information about this guy. Professor Brandon was a highly respected teacher at the Academy, and Michael knew he had a tough match if he was going to get in. He activated his duel Disk. They looked at each other, considering the other for a moment. "Welcome. My name is Professor Brandon, and I am the head teacher at the Academy. He extended his hand to Michael, who took it. "So I get to duel the top senior of the school already? Excellent" He grinned, as they walked away to face each other. Brandon smiled. "I hate to be called a senior. I am only nineteen. I just got here through solid work. You ready?" He called to Michael. This one seems strong, he thought, as he activated his own, rather more extravagent Duel Disk. Michael nodded, his face one of the utmost determination. "Duel!" They drew their hands. "I will start!" Brandon drew for his turn. "I summon Paladinrook Archfiend!" A heavily armoured black warrior flexed its shiny weapon. (1800ATK/1500DEF). Paladinrook Archfiend4 StarDark/Fiend/1800ATK/1500DEF/ This card's name is treated as "Pandemonium". Once per turn, you may increase the ATK of one monster on the field by 500 points until the End Phase. If one or more "Archfiend" monsters on your side of the field are affected by a Spell, Trap or Monster effect, you may discard 1 Archfiend monster from your hand to the Graveyard to negate the effect of that card and destroy it. "As long as this is on the field, it is treated as Pandemonium!" Michael grinned. This guy is good, he thought. Setting a card face down, Brandon ended his turn. Michael drew for his turn. "I summon Valkyrie Nuorva in Attack mode!" A beautiful woman clad in shining white amour mounted her horse. (1600ATK/1500 DEF). Valkyrie Nuorva4 StarLight/Fairy/1600ATK/1500DEF/ By halving this card's ATK points, you may attack your opponents Life points directly with this card. "By halving this monster's attack points, it may attack you directly!" The female warrior let out a stunning war cry and charged into battle, past the Archfiend. Brandon flipped his set card. "I activate my set card Dark Shadow! Dark ShadowNormal Trap CardPay 500 life points. Negate the attack of one of your opponents attacking monsters and end their Battle Phase. I pay 500 life points to shut off your attack!" A ghostly barrier erupted out of nowhere; its Irresistable force shut down the attack. Michael set a card of his own and ended. (3500/4000). Brandon drew. "I activate the spell card Knight to D4! Knight to D4Normal Spell CardOne of your face up "Archfiend" monsters may attack your opponents Life points directly this turn. This spell card allows one of my Archfiends to attack you directly!" Michael didn't respond. Brandon continued. "I now summon Terrorking Archfiend!" A terrifying figure rose out of the ground. (2000ATK/1600DEF). Brandon then activated his Paladinrook Archfiend's effect, allowing him to increase the ATK of one monster on his field until the End Phase. (Terrorking's ATK now 2500). He declared a direct attack with Terrorking Archfiend. It charged headlong at Michael, knocking him to the ground. Brandon waited for Michael to get to his feet before continuing; although he was strict, he always put his students, or potential students, first. "Paladin, attack his Valkyrie!" As it advanced menancingly on her, Michael acted. "Activate my face down Aegis Shield!" Aegis ShieldContinuous Trap CardOnce per turn, if one of your face up Valkyrie monsters would be destroyed in battle, it will not be destroyed. Damage calculation is conducted normally. A solid looking Spartan shield soared from the sky in front of the Valkyrie, which braced itself for the impact. "This Continuous Trap prevents my monster from being destroyed in battle once per turn. Of course, I will still take the damage". (3500/1300). Brandon looked to the ceiling, apprantly in thought. Coming out of a reverie, he set a card and ended. Michael drew for his turn, and smiled to himself. Wow, that was a pretty damaging last turn. Brandon really knows how to duel. Luckily, I can win this now. He looked up at Brandon. "Sorry man, I would like to keep this continuing, but my mates are waiting for me, so I am ending this. I activate from my hand, Hammer of Thor!" Hammer of ThorNormal Spell CardRemove 1 "Valkyrie" monster on your side of the field from play. Destroy all face up monsters on your opponents side of the field. This card cannot be negated or destroyed. You cannot Normal Summon or Set the turn you activate this card. A bolt of very realistic looking lightning struck the playing field; its loud crack emitted some shrieks from the crowd, who obviously heard it. A colossal hammer smashed into the ground. "With this card, by removing one Valkyrie monster on my side of the field, I can destroy every monster on your side of the field!" Brandon closed his eyes. "I activate the effect of Paladinrook Archfiend! When one or more of my monsters is effected by a Spell, trap or Monster effect, I can discard 1 Archfiend monster from my hand to the graveyard to negate it!" Michael laughed kindly. "Sorry, but it won't work. Hammer of Thor cannot be Negated". Brandon's field was torn apart by the hammer. Brandon however didn't look concerned. "You cannot Normal summon the turn you play that card". Michael inclined his head slightly in acknowledgement. "I am aware of that. Good thing I have Call of Valhalla, which allows me to Special Summon 1 Valkyrie monster from my hand! And I choose Valkyrie Paladin!" A burlier, more aggressive looking warrior rose to the field, this time on foot (1800ATK/1000DEF). Call of ValhallaQuick Play SpellSpecial Summon 1 Level 4 or below "Valkyrie" monster from your hand. It is destroyed during the End Phase. Valkyrie PaladinLevel 4Light/Warrior/1800ATK/1000DEF/When this card is destroyed in battle and sent to the Graveyard, you may add 1 "Valkyrie" card from your Deck to your Hand. Michael watched Brandon for a response, but Brandon simply nodded his head. Clutching a spell card in his hand, he activated it. Reginleif's BlessingQuick Play SpellDouble the ATK of one "Valkyrie" monster until the End Phase. "Now, I play Reginleif's Blessing, which doubles the ATK of one of my Valkyrie's until the end of the turn. Now direct Attack!" Brandon stood silently as the attack drained his Life Points to 0. Woah. I never expected him to defeat me this early on. I personally requested that I duel this guy from what I heard about him possessing one of the two Legendary Valhalla decks, but I never thought he would be so strong. This Academy would welcome such a skilled duelist. He walked over to Michael and held out his hand. "Considering I was about to win on my next turn and my solid defensive position, you still won from that, which was impressive. Welcome to the Academy. The flight to the Academy will take off in the next hour, so just wait around until you are told where to go". Shaking Brandon's hand, Michael smiled to himself as he left the compartment. I did it. He opened the door to find Levi, Josh, Daniel and Suzie waiting for him. Daniel stepped forwards. He didn't need to ask; the answer was etched across Michael's grinning face. "Excellent dude!" He clapped him on the back and turned to face the others. Levi whooped and jumped into the air. "David owes me £20!" Laughing and joking, and with all worry absent, they rushed off to join their friends.---------------------------------------------------------End of Chapter 2.
