Well Yesterday at about 9.00 AM i was Playing GTA then my ps3 switched off automaticly and then a yellow light appeared then i found out it was the yellow light of death. Well i heard that the happen or will to every ps3 and you have to spend £120 just to fix them so what is the point of buying or making them if there just going to fail.

Try and access the Factory Reset (yes Ps3's have this and you CAN back up internal data).

http://www.tech-recipes.com/rx/2265/ps3_how_to_factory_hard_reset/ It should fix any intermittent problems and you wont lose your purchases etc, just save files. So yeah... It's not entirely broken.

If that doesn't work, if you have your insurance still it's fine (receipt too I hope - Sony can get stingy) send in the Ps3 to have it replaced.

Considering the rarity of this issue (Ive known 1 person whos gotten it), and how many 360 Failure's I've seen this is more of a product issue and Sony's IS better than Microsoft at least utility wise. (Sony is a Multimedia company). By the same token that you said, why get any console?

Why? Because the Rarity of this issue. Sony doesn't lose much money because less than 95% (thats still $540 and a profit) of their consumers encounter this issue. Whereas, Microsoft had a much higher rate, and an Xbox probably costs a lot less to replicate a new console.

If Microsoft didn't offer it, they'd have a much lower playerbase and have more to worry about.

Just did a quick search, Ps3's as of Jan 2010 cost $337 to make. So thats a little over $300 profit. And thats with the 120gb model. Whereas as of 2007 (closes I could find) on a 360, and they're selling their console cheaper than the Manufacturing costs. Meaning, that if they lost such a drop in consumers, their profits would sink like a rock. And that isn't good now is it?
