If I may rebuttal what Xander posted. That may be true, but that has nothing to do with the 3 main reasons for this thread. Also, that doesn't give the reason for the rep and in order to find out who repped you, you would have to search for that specific post.

I run contests on here, so giving reps is part of my niche! On here now, I do not even know how to give reps to another (can anyone PM me on how to?) nor do I know how to give points (anyone know?) and that is bad beans for my contests!

You've got to remember you're older than most members here, and like a virtual reward system, some members want it.

 

Just as much as it is Trophies or Achievements in games, they count as an effort point and I guess some members feel, rewarded or encouraged when they receive a rep for their efforts.

 

I can imagine this thread is to recreate the old system where a member can specifically see the reason(s).
