-Griffin
The update sidebar puts everyone's updates in the most prominent place in the entire forum - people online are more likely to miss a forum-wide sticky announcement than a status update. Something given this much of an in-your-face spot on the forum shouldn't be allowed to be full of spam. Please, put normal status updates only on the profiles and have a separate shout-box, remove the update part of the sidebar all together or make some rules, at least as strict as those for forum-posts, regarding spam. You can tell us what you had for dinner if you want, but don't put it in the most prominent part of the forums, please. Leaving that shout-box in it's current, unmoderated, unruled, spam-filled form is going to be a nightmare.

Flame Dragon
It can be moderated. I don't know if all mods can, but I can delete stuff in it. Also people spamming that will likely be viewed in the same way as spam posts and they can be warned for that. Still I do agree that it will end up being trouble. -Griffin
Alright, it seems that this is generally agreed upon, but which of the options to fix it (Rules, moderation, removal, moving) do people think would be best?
poopybuttoxes
You could just ignore it. Its a possibility haha. I find it interesting to see whats going on in random peoples lives. Isnt that why were all here anyway hahaha
-Griffin
No.Read the first post. It's far too prominent for spammy messages or to 'just ignore'.
poopybuttoxes
Dude, you cant see it when your in a section. Its not that crutial haha. Your acting like its gonna ruin everything in life. Its a vague strip of updates and im sure people are enjoying it. I would agree with you if people were updating like every five seconds, but they're not. Its pretty civil and it doesnt seem like it will get out of hand. Lets save this thread for when or if it does, but for right know its pretty chill. As it is, the main page of YCM has updates that stick around for a while, so they shouldn't be waste or spam
poopybuttoxes
It would be easier to moderate if they were slow. Like right now theres a bad one. Something about male reprodutcive organs haha. Easily deteled.

LiAM
I would support an Admin/Moderator module where they could post updates, news, rules. But I do agree seeing someone's status that you don't know or care about does get quite annoying.
Bringerofcake
Why not (if possible) make the status updates subscription only? That way any user that wants to look at the statuses can, the rest can be blissfully ignorant, and mods could be auto subscribed by all members in the case of forum-wide announcements. Limited Edition KING
There is a button next to the status updates that lets you not see peoples updates if your sick of seeing them you can press that. I don't know if you know this or not.
