Selene shrugged. She was used to people hiding names from her.

"Whatever floats your boat." she shrugged. "When the time comes, I'll trade my name for yours. Just for information."

She used whatever was left of her talent to conjure up a stretcher and she laid Ghost down on it.

"Can you take Reina?" she asked him. "Or should I?"

 

She looked calmly back at his skull helmet.

"Hurry up!" Ghost yelled.

Ghost laid on the stretcher in tremendous pain. He wanted the pain to go away.

He'd completely forgotten about the long scar on his face. With his good hand, he ran his fingers across it.

"I'm going to have this for the rest of my life," he thought to himself, "aren't I?"

Selene helped Ketodama take them back to the infirmary.

The doctor was in his office, thankfully not in the room of Kraive's body.

The doctor glanced at Ghost and without a word set to work.

"That was fast thinking, creating a stretcher..." commented the doctor.

Selene shook her head internally. If the doctor had been there and had seen what happened, he wouldn't have said that.

"Who put the paste? That's what I was going to do..." the doctor smiled slightly.

Ketodama sighed quietly, walking back out of the infirmary. He simply stood outside of it on the street, looking up at the sky. All he really did at that point was to stand outside, giving the others as much room as they wanted. If any of them wanted to talk to him, they were going to have to either get him to come back in or go out to him. Regardless, for the moment he had his back turned to the Infirmary and had since returned his short bow and the arrow to his quiver. Perhaps if anyone came out to see him, they would notice the long braid of silver hair going down his back.

Selene sat down, her head in her hands.

She had been so dam* cowardly! She had just run with Reina when danger was apparent, and now Ghost had a wound to remember the day from.

She sighed, watching Ketodama with narrowed eyes.

She wondered if he was what he said he was. it was strange, arriving just in the time of need. She would need to keep a closer eye on him.

Never show weakness... never show them fear... her master's voice echoed in her ears.

Ghost looked at Reina while the doctor worked.

She's still asleep, he thought, I won't bother her...

Ghost gritted his teeth in pain.

The vision in his left eye had been somewhat lessened from the wound on his face. He assumed that he'd probably lose full vision in it by the end of the week.

Ketodama sighed quietly, walking back into the Infirmary after a few moments. He quickly looked around, trying to find something on which he could sit. Seeing nothing, he shrugged his shoulders slightly and, moving towards an empty corner, he calmly stamped his foot on the ground. A pulse of magic energy could be felt emanating from the spot just a mere moment before a rectangular pedestal made of stone came up from the ground, being perfectly sized for him to sit down on. He did so, leaning back against the wall behind him and he closed his eyes under his helm. In a few moments he was asleep, breathing slowly and evenly.

Selene slid into an empty bed and slept soundly, this time thankfully with NO terribly sad dreams.

Selene cracked open an eyelid; her body had been wired to wake early every morning. It was five o'clock AM.

She stood up and grimaced as her sore muscles bunched up. She spent a couple of minutes stretching, then she began her normal morning exercises.

She looked around, wondering if anyone else was awake.

Ketodama had been awake for just about an hour now and his place in the corner was empty. If one were to look for him hard enough, they would find that he was standing completely still atop the roof of the infirmary. The few people passing through the streets below dismissed him as nothing more than a gargoyle for a few moments, before realizing that there weren't any such things on the infirmary's roof normally. They might cast a second glance at him, before quickly hurrying away, terrified of what they thought they were seeing. He had kept his wolf's skull helm upon his head and was now looking to the east, awaiting the sunrise. He held his short bow strung in his left hand with an arrow knocked on the string, ready in the case that he would need it.

Selene stood and noticed the empty spot in the corner; she knew that was where Ketodama had been the night previous.

She had a hunch, so she climbed up to the next floor, then the next, and finally up the hatch into the roof.

There he was.

"You still haven't told us your name," she said quietly, her voice barely audible over the wind. "What is it?"

Reina woke wondering what had happened before. She heard voices while resting but what happened? She sat up rubbing the sleep from her eyes and stretched. Was everyone okay and were they awake? Reina was too tired to think much. Her eyes started to close again. All that healing took alot out of her. What were they going to do and where were they going to go next? Reina then fell back to sleep.

Ketodama continued looking east for a few moments, before he turned around to look directly at Selene. Perhaps in the predawn light she might just be able to see the faint green of his eyes behind the visage of his helm. Satisfied that it was her and not somebody else, he calmly turned his gaze back towards the east, awaiting the light of dawn.

 

"My name is Ketodama Sagaku."

"My name is Selene," she said, forgetting about her last name at the moment. "So its true then... the Desrian king sent you..." she leaned against a pole sticking out of the building; probably a lightning rod.

She had never really appreciated the beauty of a sunrise in the city; she had only known its beauty in the countryside. She watched as the first rosy tips of the sun peeked over the mountains.

She turned away. "I'm going to check on the others," she siad brusquely, and then headed back down the steps.

Ketodama simply shrugged his shoulders, not caring much for her or the others. After all, it was only a job and he had no reason to deal with them other than to complete their mission. A slight smile came to his face as the sun made its way up from behind the mountains, reminding him why he had begun watching sunrises in the first place. A new thought came to his mind as he was standing there that took the smile from his face. It had been early in the morning when his world had been torn apart for the second time. He shook his head to clear his thoughts, before returning to his vigil over the sunrise. He had no idea when he would next be able to have such a moment of peace, and he planned not to ruin it with thoughts of his past.

Ghost woke up and looked over at Reina to see that she was still asleep.

He was still in a lot of pain from where the sword had been. He probably should have pulled it out himself before catching up. After all, Kraive was dead, and he didn't have much else to worry about.

Ghost looked up and smiled.

"A new life..." he muttered to himself as the sun slowly rose.

Reina woke up again and looked around once again. She was tired but knew she had to get up. "Whats going on?..." She said mainly to herself as she sat up. Reina's vision was blurred as she looked around. "Where's everyone at?" Reina looked over at Ghost. She was still half asleep. She didn't know what to say or do. She just sat there staring. Reina rubbed her eyes again. "You okay?..."

"Yeah," he said, looking at his stitched up wound, "I should be fine. How are you feeling?"

Ghost was still in a little pain, but he was glad it was over.

Suddenly, he thought of something.

The only difference between me and Kraive was that... he thought, Was that I got paid. And that makes me the less honorable one...

Ghost sullenly lowered his head.

Reina looked at him confused as her vision started to clear. " Are you sure your okay?..You seem down..." Reina told him. She could tell by the look on his face and that he lowered his head that something was wrong. Reina didn't know what though. She stood up feeling a bit wobbliy. She fell back down. Her body was numb for some reason. Reina thought it must of been an effect from the poison or the treatment.

"No..." Ghost lied, "It's nothing."

He looked back up at her, glad she was okay to stand.

"It's hard to believe it's over," Ghost said, "It happened so fast, I can barely even remember anything. All that matters is that... he's gone. And I don't have much to worry about now."

Selene ran down the stairs and beamed a rare smile at them. "Oh, I'm glad you're awake...you feeling alright, Reina? How about you, Ghost?"

She looked over at the spot in the corner, and saw athat ketodama's seat was still there. She decided to sit down for the moment until Ketodama came back.

She sat down and leaned back.

Ghost nodded.

"I'm fine," he said, "Still a little sore, but that's normal."

Ghost scratched his head.

"I wonder wha I'll do now," he said with a confused tone, "I mean, I've done all that I was meant to do..."

"I'm fine..." She answered. What had happened while she was asleep? Reina didn't know if she would ever know. She felt numb but said nothing about it. Were they both really okay? She didn't know. What was going on and what had happened? She wasn't going to ask. Reina didn't want to bother them. What was with the voices from before? Maybe I was dreaming....I guess I was. If so I don't remember.

Ghost cracked his neck and his knuckles and let out a sigh of relief.

He managed to stand up as well.

"Hmm... I guess it's not too bad anymore," he said looking at his wound.

He then remembered the long scar running down his entire face.

The sun had now fully risen and Ketodama decided that his respite from reality should end. He calmly made his way to the roof hatch of the Infirmary, leaning down to open it and making his way down the ladder which lead up to the hatch. Once on the upper level of the building, Ketodama returned the arrow to his quiver and unstrung his bow, returning it to the quiver as well. He now began making his way back down to the infirmary proper, his footsteps completely silent. As he came out into the room where the others were, he smiled slightly, looking over Ghost lying on the bed as he calmly approached the previously unconscious man.

 

"I know I already said this, but you are one lucky bastard."

"I know," Ghost said with a slight chuckle, "If you go in the room over there, you'll see just how 'lucky' I am."

Ghost stood up and stretched.

"I guess I should go find my sword in there," he said, walking into the other room.

Ghost walked in and took a sigh of relief.

"They haven't found it yet," he muttered to himself.

Ghost leaned down, picket up his bloodied sword, and walked back into the room, sitting back on the bed.
