Ghost nodded.

"I guess I'm staying, huh?" he said with a smile and a shrug.

Kraive did as the necromancer said.

Suddenly, a shield appeared, inched from his chest.

He let out an evil laugh.

"Mhmm. You bet you are." Selene said absentmindedly, as she conjured a bird from her talent. Her talent had refilled itself inpower from rest. She stroked the bird, then made it disappear with a twitch of her finger.

The necromancer nodded, impressed. "Good. Now concentrate on this section of your arm." he pointed to a part of his forearm. "Now imagine a shield appearing there. visible or invisible, your choice. I'm going to poke you...yes, poke you, on that spot, and you can't feel a thing. Tell me when you're ready."

Kraive did as the necromancer commanded.

He conjured an invisible shield, and the poke had no feel.

He smiled at his newfound power.

"Oh little brother," he thought to himself, "Get ready."

"Good, good. Now I will try again with the key, if you visualize a strong enoguh shield, the blade won't even be able to pierce your flesh." the Necromancer said, drawing the key again. "I will give you time to prepare; tell me when you are ready."

Selene had this feeling in her gut, that something was coming or something wasn't right. She had that same feeling when her mother had been raped and killed, and she had come home from school.

"I'm ready," Kraive said.

As the key approached, he visualized a shield.

The key did not pierce him. He felt no pain.

Ghost looked at Selene.

"Are you worried about something?" he asked, "You seem uneasy."

"Nah, I'm just tired." she wasn't exactly lying; she was pretty tired. She looked at the bed next to Reina's. "I'm going to sleep for a couple of min--zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzZzzzz..."

She was asleep.

The Necromancer gave a laugh. "Oh, yes, you are ready. Report back to the leader, and then off you go."

He drew back. "good work. Now...now that you have learned, you may know my name." He smiled a grim smile. "Vargul Ashnazai, but call me Vargul."

Kraive turned and walked away without another word.

He reached the leader once more.

"I'm ready," he said, with a confident look in his eyes.

"Alright, you two sleep, I'll stay awake to make sure nothing else happens."

Ghost put the chair near a door and sat down.

The man nodded. "Good luck. We have faith."

he turned away, signaling for his dismissal.

Selene dreamed of the terrible day from when she was six years old. She had run home from school, forgetting her mother's drug stupor and was screaming in happiness. 'I got an O! I got an O in languages!' O was the highest grade in school.

She ran in and the house was quiet. Thinking that her mother was in another stupor, she crept silently into her mother's room.

Her mother was bloodied up, her neck cut, and her dress had been off.

She screamed in fright and ran, ran far away, never to see the house again.

There he sat, his eyes fixated on the door.

Ghost hadn't taken account of the opened windows behind him.

 

Kraive climbed up the wall and entered Reina's room through an opened window.

Ghost hadn't noticed.

Selene woke in a cold sweat. She was now facing some shadowy figure that she figured was Ghost.

"Ghost...what time is it...?"

She came to with a start when she realized that the figure in front of her was NOT Ghost.

"the H3ll did you come from?!" She said, grabbing her katana before it was too late and drawing it.

She slept with her wetgirl clothes on, at least.

Ghost heard the sound of a blade being drawn and turned around.

"Who the- Kraive!" He yelled.

Ghost ran towards Kraive, blade drawn, and swung.

Kraive blocked it and swung himself.

Ghost did not block, and it left a narrow scar on his chest.

"Selene," Ghost said, blade drawn, "Take Reina and leave. Go, now! I'll catch up if I can."

Kraive stood still and said, "Oh, little brother. Once I kill you, I'll make sure your little friends suffer the same fate."

Selene shook her head. "I'm staying to fight. Defend Reina. Where the hell is Riohs and Dante?!"

She swung her katana as a dangerous parry, then a stab.

She hadn't had anyone beat her in a swordfight.

 

This would nto be the first time, she vowed.

"Selene, this is my battle to fight," Ghost said, "It's not a matter of nobility, it's a matter of life and death. Take Reina, find Riohs, find Dante, and get out of here. If I don't kill him myself, I'll have at least held him off long enough for you guys to get to safety. Just go! I promise, I'll catch up to you. Don't worry about me."

Kraive swiftly dodged Selene's strikes.

"Listen to my little brother, girl," Kraive said, "Although, I doubt you'll be able to get very far."

Kraive swung at Ghost once more. Ghost blocked it with his own weapon and yelled, "GO!!"

Selene nodded wordlessly, and conjured a wheeled stretcher for Reina. "here you go..." she heaved her onto the stretcher, then headed for the steps.

"Sorry, this'll be bumpy..." she muttered, gritting her teeth as she watched the stretcher bump along down the flights sof stairs.

Finally they were outside. It was the middle of the night.

"Well, well, little brother," Kraive said, "Looks like you're quite the hero. It's a pity that your efforts will have been pointless."

Ghost swung with incredible might. Kraive blocked it with the imaginary shield.

"W... What?" Ghost muttered.

Kraive swung once more, knocking Ghost to the ground.

Ghost rolled around and grabbed Kraive's leg.

As Kraive fell, Ghost stood up and backed away.

"Kraive," Ghost said, "This will end tonight."

Kraive nodded. "Oh yes," he said, smirking, "It will."

Kraive stood up and lunged once more. Ghost dodged it and slashed at Kraive's back while he had the chance.

Kraive stood in pain. He then turned around and hacked at Ghost with all his might. Ghost started to back away, but it already hit, leaving a long scar upon his face.

Ghost groaned in agony.

Selene dutifully continued down the street, running. She had to get to her horse; it was bridled in an inn. Curse her for picking one so far away from the infirmary.

 

She ran with the stretcher and grabbed MOondapple, stroking her and giivng her anapple she had stolen from the king's dining table.

She pondered how she was going to get Reina on.

Kraive stabbed his sword into the ground and drew an extremely large broadsword.

Then, he lunged at Ghost with incredible strength.

Ghost narrowly dodged it, frustrating Kraive.

The large sword was stuck in the ground.

Kraive was unarmed.

Ghost swung, but Kraive dodged it, grabbing Ghost by the arm and breaking it.

Ghost yelled out in pain and Kraive took his sword.

It was at this moment that Ketodama noticed Selene fleeing with Reina upon a stretcher. He shrugged his shoulders slightly, before noticing that Selene matched the description of one of the group he was supposed to meet up with. He quickly changed directions running along the rooftops and ran after her, catching up quickly. He tried to catch her attention with a hand gesture, but instead decided on a more direct approach. he ran as closely to alongside her as possible from the rooftops, waiting until the street narrowed, and then he performed a feet that the Prince of Persia would have been proud of. He leapt from the roof of the building he was on to the wall of one on the opposite side of the street and then leapt to a wall on the side opposite that, from where he leapt to the ground and rolled to avoid injuring himself. As soon as he got up from the roll, he continued running along, having fallen a little ways behind Selene. He arrived at the stable shortly after Selene had brought Reina in with her horse and he calmly looked at the two of them, panting a bit.

 

"Before you ask, I'm not your enemy. I was sent by the Desrian King to meet up with your group and assist you in any way that I could."

Ghost ran over to the sword that was suck in the ground and pulled it out, using over half of the Talent he had left.

Kraive approached him, fully prepared for a kill.

Kraive swung, hitting Ghost in the leg and knocking him over.

"Oh, little brother," Kraive said, laughing, "It's over."

Kraive leaned over Ghost, so their faces were only inches away from each other.

"Goodbye, brother," Ghost said.

"Finally!" Kraive shouted with victory, "I finally rid the world of my pesky lit-"

Kraive looked down, there, lodged in his chest was they key.

"N...no," he said in shock.

Ghost stood up and took his sword in his good hand.

He swung at Kraive's head, but Kraive quickly countered it by stabbing at Ghost' stomach with the large sword that was still laying on the ground.

At the very moment Ghost's sword met Kraive's net, Kraive's sword hit Ghost's stomach.

Kraive fell to the ground. He was but a body.

Ghost shuddered with pain.

Ignoring the sword lodged in his stomach, he limped out of the infirmary and looked for his comrades.

He didn't have much time left.

Selene said hurriedly. "My-friend-back-there-is-in-danger-but-i-need-to-help-this-injured-girl." all in one breath.

She turned around worriedly and saw the figure of Ghost limping away from the infirmary.

"That's him. We need to get him somewhere safe and secure." she said, pointing to Ghost's figure.

"But there's someone inside that's after him...since I am not injured, please help those two...thank you."

 

She drew her katana and raced back to Kraive.

Kraive's body lay there. Bloodied and headless. It was a gruesome sight, but it had to be done.

Ghost tried to tell Selene to stop, but the words couldn't escape his throat.

He finally collapsed, the sword still stuck in his stomach.

"P...please," he said to the man a few feet away from him, "H... help me."

Ketodama sighed as he approached the limping form of Ghost. He rolled his eyes for a moment, before he calmly laid the man down on the ground. He quickly reached into his pack and pulled out a handful of herbs, which he began chewing into a paste. Once he had properly formed the herbs into a paste, he began to spread half of it around the blade of the sword as it stuck out of the man's stomach. Perhaps, dressed in the way that he was and with the wolf skull helm, Ketodama would look like some sort of Demon or the Angel of Death. However, as soon as the herbal paste had been applied, the blood flowing out of Ghost began to clot and slowly the entrance wound ceased to bleed.

 

"Don't worry, I'm going to do everything that I can to save you. Now, Hold still."

 

As he said this, Ketodama slowly began to draw the sword out, applying more of the herbal paste to the inside of the wound as he was able to reach it. Quickly, the wound ceased to bleed and he managed to pull the blade completely out. Ketodama then began to examine the wound after the paste had taken effect. he sighed in relief as he noticed the blade had just barely missed the major blood vessels in the man's abdomen. However, he was going to need a very large amount of stitches or a very skilled healer to mend his intestines.

 

"Do you have any idea how lucky a bastard you are?"

Ghost looked at him and let out a hoarse laugh.

"You have no idea," he said, "Thank you, though."

Ghost tried to stand up, but fell back down.

His breathing was heavy, but he was still very much alive.

Selene had run back into the infirmary and had found the disgusting site of Kraive's maimed body.

She sighed in relief and ran back out. "He did it. Kraive's dead."

She found herself thinking how cowardly she had been when she had grabbed Reina and ran.

 

"Oh well..." she muttered. She stooped forward to get a look at Ghost. She had heard what Ketodama had said and she whistled. "Wow. Lucky bastard indeed." she nodded.

"So who are you anyways?" she asked, turning to Ketodama. "And thanks for treating my friend."

Ketodama calmly looked up at her, the wolf's skull helm concealing his face. He reached down to grab hold of one of Ghost's arms and to help the man to his feet, before placing the arm over his shoulders. He gestured back into the stable with his head, the gesture pointing towards where Reina had been left on the stretcher. He then began to carry ghost back to the infirmary as best he could, following the trail of blood he had left. He still hadn't said anything to Selene and seemed to be ignoring the question.

 

"If you want your friends to be alright, I suggest you bring her back to what is apparently an infirmary so that a real doctor can treat the both of them. Right now, my name isn't important."
