Screw Hollywood and their... movies. D':

Yeah, being half-Indian, I'm pretty much required to watch a bunch of Hindi movies. But two stand out, and if you can get your hands on these DVDs, turn on the English subtitles and watch them. You may not understand exactly what they are saying, or will be overwhelmed by the number of songs within the movies, but they are generally good with the acting and have underlying themes, something that a lot of Hollywood movies lack.

 

But Americans don't care about underlying themes! We just want to see explosions and gunfights. <___<

The former is about three people at an engineering college, although two of them are only going their because of their parents' wishes or because they want the money. It's a really good movie, it's generally funny (if you have subtitles, of course), and it definitely bashes the traditional Indian mentality. Also, it earned $100 million worldwide.

 

The later is a story about a Muslim who has to overcome racism after 9/11, and bashes moreso the American mentality that "all Muslims are effing terrorists and will blow up the world and oh em gee kill them". Which is a stupid mentality to begin with, but whatever. It also bashes the Indian mentality that Hindus are the complete opposites of Muslims... which again, doesn't make sense.

 

These are really good movies, and if you can get over that both are underlying love stories and both are musicals, you will absolutely love them.

 

Oh, and discuss other non-American movies. Or at least non-American based movies, since every movie ends up in America.
