Lord Ursus
Lovely card, Lex! Love it! The thread is updated, though not with your desired beat-stick. Though it now has a wickedly impressive beatstick all the same. Memories of a Life
Max Darkness
"Suffering" will do fine as a final opponent (of sorts). And it does mean I can add another small section to the end. EDIT: Just remembered one other small change I made (for writing reasons): "Neglect" has 2700 ATK, instead of the card's 2800.
Lord Ursus
Ok. I will await the next chapter in tension.
Max Darkness
Okay. Shouldn't be too long. EDIT: Here we go. Part 2:
The Brink of Suicide (Jap: Power of Torment! Life in Jeopardy!)]“My turn…” Philip started, with all his usual confidence and enthusiasm absent. “I…activate the Field Spell ‘The Sanctuary in the Sky’.” The ancient temple rose around the Omega Organisation’s building, the clouds slowly circling the duellists. “Then I summon ‘Harvest Angel of Wisdom’ in Attack Position and set one card. Turn end.” Turn 5 “I draw.” Jupiter looked across the duel field and his eyes narrowed. “Tell me, Mr. Arcan, through all this despair, torment and hate, how did you cope? Because you seem rather alive to me. Many Ataxia survivors I studied didn’t have such long lives. But all of them had their ways of dealing with what they had been through, some more successful than others. Some tried to suppress their emotions, others unleashed them. Which school of thought do you belong to?”“I don’t understand.”“Perhaps another expedition into your mind may illuminate you. I summon ‘Memory Requiem – Lust’. This one represents all the times you have tried to escape your fate with primitive urges. Anything coming back?”“Possibly.”“And did that lust ever drive you to do foolish actions? Actions that could have hurt you?” Philip nodded.“Of course. That’s what that does. And if you were in my position, it would have been even more obvious. If you can’t feel anything, then at least pain is a reminder that you’re still alive. Anything stupid presented a gateway to something…better. I can’t describe it.”“I suppose not. I end my turn.” “My turn. Since it’s been…two turns since I activated ‘Gold Sarcophagus’, it returns the card I removed to my hand. I then switch ‘Bountiful Artemis’ to Defense Position. I-““At the end of your first Main Phase, I can activate the effect of ‘Memory Requiem – Lust’. Like I said, it can force you to take foolish actions. In this case, I select one Attack Position monster you control and during this turn, it must attack. In addition, that attack must be a direct attack. I choose your ‘Harvest Angel of Wisdom’”“Okay… ‘Harvest Angel’, attack Jupiter directly.” Philip’s monster revealed its golden sabres and lunged forwards, slicing down. Jupiter didn’t move, while ‘Memory Requiem – Torment’ let out a horrible scream, the red aura surrounding it growing in magnitude. (Torment ATK: 0 -> 1800) “What happened?”“Nothing too complicated. The effect of ‘Torment’ is active at this current point. Whenever I would take damage, ‘Torment’ takes it instead and that pain is converted into its strength. And bear in mind that ‘Torment’ grows from any pain that would befall me, be it from battle or effect.”“…Right. I set one card face down to end.” Turn 7 “I draw. And-““I activate the Counter Trap ‘Drastic Drop Off’. It can only be activated when my opponent adds a card to their hand, but it forces them to discard it. And, since it is a Counter Trap, ‘Bountiful Artemis’ effect allows me to draw a card.” “Annoying. Regardless, I activate the effect of ‘Memory Requiem – Neglect’: I destroy ‘Lust’ in order to Special Summon ‘Memory Requiem – Loathing’. Again, its name is self-explanatory. When have you felt true hatred and anger at another person? This destructive emotion is responsible for some of the most heinous acts in human history. Tell me, have you ever succumbed to it? I will be surprised if you haven’t.”“Stop manipulating my mind.” Philip retorted, aggressively.“I’m simply trying to help you; to find the root of your problems.” Jupiter lied.“I don’t want ‘help’ that involves reliving my most violent memories.”“So you do have experience where you fell to the so-called red mist?”“Not loathing… Something else.”“You’ll need to be more open if we’re to get anything done.” Jupiter replied, sarcastically. “Also, I feel your ‘Artemis’ has outlived its welcome. ‘Memory Requiem – Neglect’ attacks ‘Bountiful Artemis’.” Jupiter’s monster howled before unleashing a dark crimson inferno, which quickly swallowed Philip’s monster, destroying it. I end my turn.” “My turn.” Philip looked at the drawn card, and seemed to recover some of his lost energy. “I summon ‘The Agent of Mystery – Earth’ and activate its effect: when it’s Normal Summoned, it can add 1 ‘Agent’ monster from my Deck to my hand. However, while ‘The Sanctuary in the Sky’ is on the field, I can add ‘Master Hyperion’ to my hand instead. I choose to add ‘Master Hyperion’. Next, I can Special Summon ‘Master Hyperion’ by removing an ‘Agent’ monster on my side of the field, in my hand or in my Graveyard. I remove ‘The Agent of Mystery – Earth’ to Special Summon ‘Master Hyperion’!” A burst of solar energy shot up from the floor, before parting to reveal Philip’s new servant. “I then equip ‘Master Hyperion’ with the ‘Cestus of Dagla’, raising its ATK power by 500 points. (Hyperion ATK: 2700 -> 3200) I then set one card and end my turn.” Turn 9 “I draw. So, you are attempting to stall while finding a way to free yourself from the effect of ‘Torment’. I can assure you when I say there will not be a painless way out.” Jupiter glanced to the card he drew. “Now, the monster in my hand may normally need a tribute, but because I control at least one monster and a combined total of zero Levels, I can summon it without the need to tribute monsters.”“What?” Jupiter took a breath.“It is an effect shared with all the ‘Memory Requiems’; when they are summoned, I can treat their Monster Card Zone as a Memory Zone. It is only while in a Memory Zone that their effects are unlocked. All my monsters on the field are currently in Memory Zones, I simply neglected to tell you. In addition, monsters in Memory Zones lose all their Levels and if all monsters I control are in Memory Zones, you may attack me directly. So, now that that’s out of the way, I summon ‘Memory Requiem – Rage’.” As the monster appeared, Jupiter noticed a clear change in Philip’s disposition, and let a thin smile cross his lips. “Your expression tells me that this emotion is rather familiar to you. Tell me what you’ve experienced.”“You know enough about my past to work that out. When you’ve lost everyone and everything, of course you feel anger. You want to blame someone. And when you can’t find anyone, you blame yourself. But you vent that anger on those around you. That monster reminds me of every time I’ve hurt those I rely on with my guilt…and my frustration.”“Others who survived Ataxia reported similar symptoms and experiences. It seems when the divine strike, it is the ones who live that suffer. Similar to your destructive outbursts, ‘Rage’s’ effect raises the ATK of all ‘Memory Requiem’ monsters I control by 500. (Neglect, Torment, Rage, Loathing ATK: 2700 -> 3200, 1800 -> 2300, 1700 -> 2200, 1800 -> 2300) Once again, we are at a stalemate of power. I end my turn.” “Not quite. My turn. I activate the effect of ‘Master Hyperion’: by removing a LIGHT Fairy-Type monster in my Graveyard from play, I can destroy one card on the field. And I destroy ‘Memory Requiem – Torment’!” A surge of flame lanced across the battlefield, incinerating Jupiter’s monster. However, as the flames died, an image of ‘Torment’ appeared before melting into a deep red haze that cut through Philip, causing him to double up in pain. (Philip LP: 2400 -> 100) “What the hell was that?!” Jupiter retained his sadistic expression.“I see you tried to prematurely end this session. And you suffered the same fate as anyone who tries to escape their torment without thinking. It comes back to haunt them, usually in a more damaging form. I suppose you could say that ‘Torment’ has mutated into trauma, but that’s merely a conjecture from me. But yes, when ‘Torment’ is destroyed by a card effect, you take damage equal to its ATK. What I am surprised about is that you survived. Many are swept away by the repercussions of destroying ‘Torment’. I suppose the saying that fate smiles on fools is holding true this time round. Please continue your turn.”

Max Darkness
Final part of Philip vs. Jupiter:
The Forgotten Light (Jap: Forgotten Determination: Exalted Ruler Mina!)]Philip struggled to his feet, the pain still lancing through him. Staggering, he saw a final vision of ‘Torment’ briefly, before he refocused.“At least…now there’s…nothing…to protect your Life Points…” Philip gasped. “’Master Hyperion’…attacks ‘Memory Requiem – Rage’.” The golden angel reached out a hand, releasing a pulse of white energy, effortlessly tearing Jupiter’s monster apart. (Jupiter LP: 4000 -> 3000) “And the effect of ‘Cestus of Dagla’ activates; when the equipped monster inflicts damage to my opponent, I regain Life Points equal to that damage… (Philip LP: 100 -> 1100) Turn end.” Turn 11 “You’re proving more resilient than most. You hide behind mental barriers, most likely put up by your subconscious to protect yourself in the wake of Ataxia. In my patients, it is a matter of removing those walls when they are no longer needed. However, for you, they seem a vital part of your mental landscape, most likely because of the three separate people in you. I draw. Perhaps I need to be more aggressive to bring them down. I activate the Spell Card ‘Memory End’. I destroy one ‘Memory Requiem’ monster I control and deal 1000 damage to my opponent.” A jet-black sphere materialised above Jupiter, drawing in and absorbing ‘Memory Requiem – Loathing’ before sending out shockwaves in all directions. Philip had to shield himself from the force of the effect. (Philip LP: 1100 -> 100) “Then, the effect of ‘Memory Requiem – Loathing’ activates; since it was destroyed and sent to the Graveyard, it inflicts 1000 damage to my opponent!” The floor shook, and a massive fiery clawed hand reached out and towards Philip. However, before it could connect, it was blocked by a series of light blue branches. Jupiter looked up to see a tree reaching into the sky, seemingly being orbited by the planets at its far end. “This is the Counter Trap ‘Celestial Tree’. When an opponent’s monster’s effect is activated while ‘The Sanctuary in the Sky’ on is on the field, this negates that effect and sends the negated card to the Graveyard.” The hand turned to dust as the tree vanished. “I end my turn.” The annoyance in Jupiter’s voice was obvious. “You don’t seem so confident any more. Perhaps I’m the subject that cannot be reached with traditional teachings. My turn!” Philip began to regain his enthusiasm “’Master Hyperion’ attacks ‘Memory Requiem – Neglect’!”“You shouldn’t be so full of yourself. I activate the effect of the ‘Memory Flashback’ in my Graveyard. By removing it from play, I can increase the ATK of a monster on the field by 700. I choose ‘Memory Requiem – Neglect’.”“It’s not enough. I chain the Counter Trap ‘Dark Bribe’. It lets you draw one card, but it negates the activation of your card’s effect and destroys it. ‘Master Hyperion’ remains the strongest monster!” Jupiter’s monster screamed as it was obliterated. (Jupiter LP: 3000 -> 2500) (Philip LP: 100 -> 600) “And next, ‘Harvest Angel of Wisdom’ attacks you directly! Golden sabres!” Jupiter buckled as the angel struck, not accustomed to taking such heavy damage. (Jupiter LP: 2500 -> 700) “Since it is now my End Phase, I activate the last effect of ‘Celestial Tree’. By removing it from my Graveyard, I can return one of my removed LIGHT Fairy-Type monsters to my Graveyard. I return ‘The Agent of Mystery – Earth”. Turn end.” Turn 13 “I draw. To start, I set one card on the field and then activate ‘Aurora Draw’. When this is the only card in my hand, I draw two cards. Next, I activate the effect of ‘Memory Requiem – Envy’ in my Graveyard, the card you forced me to discard with ‘Drastic Drop Off’. The fact that you made me discard that, and now I am removing it from the game makes me think that you have little experience of envy. Is that true?”“I told you to stay out of my mind.”“As you wish. But it will do more harm than good if you continue to hide. By removing ‘Envy’ from the Graveyard, I can Special Summon one ‘Memory Requiem’ monster from my hand. I summon ‘Memory Requiem – Suffering’!” The colossal winged demon rose from a pale yellow light, screeching from its vertical mouth. Philip took a step back as his subconscious mind went into overdrive, bringing up countless memories from his past. Trying to control it, he fell to his knees, crying out for it to stop. Meanwhile, Jupiter simply looked on, pleased to have struck such a painful nerve. “Many experience more pain if they associate suffering with a climactic event in their lives. My guess is that you equate suffering and Ataxia. Seeing everyone in pain and you losing everything you care about is certainly suffering. You now understand the repercussions of suppressing and hiding your emotions. You only let out select grievances, and none of them were your most critical. It is not uncommon for this explosion of emotions to compromise the patient at a psychological level. If unlucky, it can do severe damage. But you seem strong-willed enough to at least survive this trauma for a little longer. I don’t know if you’re listening, but while it is in a Memory Zone, ‘Suffering’ gains ATK equal to the highest ATK on the field. At this point, it is your ‘Master Hyperion’. (Suffering ATK: 0 -> 3200) I set one card face down and end my turn.” Philip; now curled up on the floor barely registered Jupiter’s speech. In his mind, visions from both Ataxia and his life in the Underworld continued to repeat, loosening his grip on reality. Then, from nowhere, a golden flash shone through the images, banishing them from his sight. Returning to reality, he noticed the top card of his deck was shining in the same rich gold. Confused, but feeling somewhat reassured by the card, he began his turn. Looking at the card he drew, his expression changed to that of relief. Jupiter tried to fathom what was special about the card, but couldn’t recognise that power from his trek of Philip’s mind. “I forgot you, didn’t I?” Philip softly said “I didn’t stop looking to you out of spite or because of Dhamus, but because I simply forgot about you.” The card shone brighter in response as Philip picked himself up. “Jupiter, this is the third person you saw in my mind. The trichotomy of my mind is caused by emotion, but not the dark and destructive ones represented by your monsters. The determination in my being is what divides me, but at the same time, it is the reason I am who I am! That drive to carve a path forward has its destructive side that you saw as Dharmus, and its creative side that you couldn’t understand. Allow me to show you this third form! I activate ‘Celestial Transformation’ which allows me to Special Summon a Fairy-Type monster from my hand by halving its ATK and destroying during the End Phase. I Special Summon ‘Neo-Parshath, the Sky Paladin’! Then, I tribute all three of my monsters!” When resolve and hope unite, a new force is born. Eternal drive to a new dawn, strike forward and give redemption to all those who see it. Descend from the golden heavens! Exalted Ruler Mina! A trio of halcyon spires raised into the sky, dyeing it a brilliant gold. From this, a single spiral of light energy descended, taking the form of the summoned monster, the ‘Exalted Ruler Mina’. Philip’s eyes shone with a golden tinge as the creature took its place. “I’m sure Chizuru told you about the destructive force that ‘Dhamus’ is. But she probably doesn’t know about this side of my personality. I don’t reveal it very often. For good reason. If I were to show all my weaknesses and neuroses, I wouldn’t have got to where I am today. Yes, I may have hidden my trauma and pain, but I needed to, and this determination allowed me to push on. I know I can never forget or destroy the suffering and torment of my life; but I can move past it, and use it as a weapon to continue forward on the path laid down by my conviction.”“That’s all very well, but remember that ‘Memory Requiem – Suffering’ takes on the highest ATK on the field. Our monsters are equal in strength.” Jupiter bluntly commented.“That doesn’t matter. Your own monster’s effect allows me to attack you directly.”“You don’t think I considered this possibility? I activate the Trap Card ‘Memory Barricade’. During this turn, you are not allowed to attack me directly through the effects of ‘Memory Requiem’ monsters.” “Then, I activate ‘Exalted Ruler Mina’s’ effect; when the only monsters my opponent controls are DARK monsters, I can attack my opponent directly by halving its ATK. And since this is an independent effect, your trap cannot stop it. ‘Exalted Ruler Mina’! Attack Jupiter directly! Clinquant Fusillade!” ‘Mina’ raised her axe, releasing a barrage of white orbs from its shining blade.“I activate the Trap Card ‘Memory Blade’!” Jupiter said as the attack closed in. “Activated when my opponent declares an attack, it destroys all monsters you control, although I take 500 damage for each one destroyed.” The space in front of Jupiter’s monster rippled before a dark blue blade of energy raced out, headed for ‘Mina’. However, when it would have hit, it passed straight through, the creature unaffected by the blast. Jupiter gritted his teeth as he struggled to understand what had gone wrong. “’Exalted Ruler Mina’ has strength on par with the ancient gods. She cannot be destroyed by destructive effects. Simply put, your trap did nothing. ‘Mina’s’ attack continues!” Jupiter glanced upwards just in time for the attack to strike. Any sound Jupiter made was covered by the explosion of ‘Mina’s’ assault. Lord Ursus
Excellent chapter. Here's my prologue and first chapter:
The sun had just risen and was a single crimson eye of melancholy veiled by wispy clouds. The busy morning traffic had already started, and the constant noises of the cars speeding by filled the air, making Jupiter close the windows. Even now, the noise could be heard, and raged in his ears like an annoying symphony. Jupiter sat down on his chair and leant back, he closed his eyes for a mere second, felt the pleasant hot air from the air conditioner and was gently prickled on his chin by his own long locks… then he was abruptly drawn back to reality by a loud knocking on his door. “Come in,” he said, and the door opened, revealing Tana the secretary in the doorway, saying, “Mr. Winterbotts is here, sir Apson.” “Lovely. Let him in please.” A slightly corpulent man entered the doorway and looked around inside the tidy office. “Please sit down, Mr. Winterbotts,” Said Jupiter Apson, indicating to a seat before his desk. The man sat down, rather albeit with some difficulty, and stared at the young man. After eyeing him up and down for a while, he closed his eyes halfway in disbelief. “You’ve got to be kidding me…” he said to himself. “Pardon?” said Jupiter, who was busy making a cup of coffee for himself and his guest. “I am to leave my case in the hands of a mere teenager? Oh, and thank you,” he added, accepting the warm cup from the youth, warming his cold fingers on it. “You bet you are,” said Jupiter, settling down opposite his visitor. “What case do you have to report, Mr. Winterbotts?” Said Mr. Apson, after taking a sip of the hot liquid. Mr. Winterbotts, now to some extent accepting that an 18-year old was to work on his case, said, “Call me Frank. Well, I work in a business that supplies countries all over the world with high quality electronics, and recently I have been victim to highly organized crimes at my warehouses. I want you to figure out who does it and to make them pay from their wrongdoings.” Jupiter Apson stood up; signalizing the end of the conversation and so did Mr. Winterbotts. They shook hands, but as Frank Winterbotts approached the door, he shook his head incredulously. “It’s still hard for me to believe that I am to leave it up to a man who has barely become of age to put people up to justice.” “My good man,” said Jupiter suddenly, his voice now firm as a rock. “I am the second in command of the Omega organization, we have put people into jail daily ever since we were founded, and you think this would be any tougher for us to handle?” He tightened his tie, which was showing of a white symbol of the letter omega. “Whatever you say.” Said Frank and walked out of the office. The door closed itself and all was quiet for a while. Now that he thought over it, it wasn’t quite silent, as there was a noise; a notoriously snoring one, and it was coming from behind the door to his left, which led to the office of the Omega Organization’s 3rd in command, Irwin Beauregarde. Smiling slightly, Jupiter opened the door to see his subordinate leaned back in his chair with both feet on the table, eyes closed and mouth wide open in his sleep. Smacking the door shut, Irwin exclaimed a little grunt and tumbled to the floor, his arms flailing madly in every direction as the fell. Rubbing the back of his head, he stood up to see who had disturbed his sleep. When he figured it was his superior who had awoken him, his face seemed to deflate, and several words that should here not be uttered seem to drain from the newly found empty expression on his face. “What was that for,” he said drowsily. “We have another case on our hands, and we must do a little research. I’ll meet you in the gathering room in 10 minutes.” Jupiter heard a slight groan as he closed the door. Ten minutes went by and eventually, Irwin came into the room that was filled with members of Jupiter’s investigation team; the veterans, whose faces burnt with their serious glare and with scars, both visible and invisible clearly on their person. And then there were the newly recruited members, whose eyes shone with eager excitement. It was approximately 15 of them and all 15 sets of informal peepers - save for Jupiter’s own - was fixed on said person. Jupiter, seeing that they were all gathered, stood forward to speak; “Well guys, we have a new case on our hands. Apparently, Frank Winterbotts, owner of Winterbotts Corp., is having a problem with theft. His company is well known for their electronics and his warehouses are being plundered. This seems like a regular case of organized criminality, but I will ask you all to show caution, as it is unknown at the moment just how dangerous these people are. Now, to your stations, I need as much information I can get from these thieveries, and I need someone to go investigate the facilities in which wares are stolen.” There was a hastened scrambling of chairs as the members of the team stood up and left the room. The team was dealt into separate units, consisting mainly of two to three persons, and it as assured that new members was grouped with the more experienced ones. Irwin rose from his chair and consulted Jupiter, “Then what do we do?” “We will go and investigate the area and see whether we can find some witnesses.” The wind was truly a bitter ordeal to be reckoned with now, as it punished walking-by civilians with its chilling, gusty wrath. Luckily, Jupiter and Irwin had a car, but the wind still felt like thousands of knives stinging them in the face as they got out of the car and into the local bar of the area. It was a relief to feel the hot air currents from air conditioners and the cheerful chattering of classes and the hushed jabbering of the customers. Here and there rose a merry laughter from the tables. The bar, named The Oasis was located in the center of the district Kolemos. Kolemos was a district known solely for its bars and fish export, as it lay near the coast. To many a citizen of Luduellum city, if you wanted a good meal of fish, tender and fresh from the depths of the ocean, you would go to a bar or restaurant in Kolemos, no doubt about it. Jupiter had often gone on trips to this very district, and felt that it was such a shame to be there merely on business’ errand, not for its excellent food. He and his companion settled down at the counter. The bartender was a cheerful man in his 50’s, with a round face and dimples. “What would two gentlemen such as yourself want in my bar?” he chuckled and awaited their response. But before Jupiter could answer, Irwin had ordered a Strawberry sundae. “We want information,” said Jupiter, nudging Irwin’s ribs. The bartender gave the sundae to Irwin, who gave him payment in return and then turned his attention to the superior of the two. “Information… about what may I ask?” he said, his face now showing signs of curiosity and mild interest. “We heard that some warehouses had been robbed around here.” “What are you, some kind of policemen?” he chuckled at his own words. “I guess you could call us that. But what information do you have about it then?” Behind them, a man shambled clumsily their way, and it was not until the stench of alcohol raked their nostrils that they turned around to look at this man. He was quite tall and dressed in a stained brown robe. He had greasy graying hair and a bottle in his hand. He also had a backpack on. “You took my brother from me,” he said, wobbling on the spot. His eyes were matted grey and were fixed, slightly unfocused on Jupiter’s yellow ones. “I’m afraid I don’t know what you are talking about.” The bartender, sensing trouble, said: “That is Timmy. His brother was taken by the police a couple of days before. It appears he has been robbing some houses.” “YOU TOOK MY BROTHER FROM ME!” shrieked the man, drawing everyone’s attention. He thrust the bottle at Jupiter, who with ease dodged it and started flailing madly at him with his fists. Timmy was, however, no match to two detectives trained in combat, and was forced into submission. He yelled and twisted in protest as he got handcuffs on. “You took him, and you put him in prison because he just nicked a few things from that stupid warehouse! The rich old bugger will never even miss those things!” The two detectives exchanged looks of mild surprise and helped the man on his feet. “Warehouse, you say?” said Irwin. “Yeah, so?” “We need you to tell us as much as you can about that.” “You think I would tell on my own brother?” Timmy sat down on the floor and mumbled to himself. Jupiter and Irwin had to sit down by his side to hear what he said, and they were glad they did: “Stupid brother. Now he’s got me into trouble as well. Damn him! Damn him and that stupid friend of his, Marcus!” Jupiter and Irwin exchanged looks once again, this time triumphant ones. “Who’s Marcus?” asked Irwin. The drunkard realized that he had erred, and tried to shake the detectives off him. This only resulted in him toppling over and falling rather pathetically to the floor flat on his face. As the hushed slap of flesh to wooden tiles filled the now deadly silent local, his backpack slid open and revealed a duel disk. An idea struck Jupiter’s head instantly. Irwin must have noticed the sudden flash of enlightenment in the countenance of his superior, because he started to ask: “You’re not going to…” He got his answer in the sly gaze emitted by Jupiter.
The reaping gusts subdued to the solid concrete walls of the backyard of the bar. The place was enclosed, not counting the narrow passageway that led out to the road and a curious smell of tobacco and discarded beer cans filled their nostrils. “This is a suitable place for a duel, don’t you think, Timmy?” Jupiter asked, and turned to the drunk, who swayed slightly on the spot, his unfocused eyes fixed unblinkingly back at him. “Why should I play with you, then?” he said, hiccoughing slightly. “Because,” Jupiter started, “you have assaulted two officers. We could, of course, ease your punishment, should you co-operate.” Timmy bit his under lip and thought for some seconds. It seemed to cause him some effort. Finally, he said: “But what does this duel have to do with anything?” Jupiter merely smiled. “All will be revealed in due time. Oh, by the way, we will play with 8000 Life Points. I don’t want your punishment to end so soon...” The three of them waited a while for Timmy to be a little more sober for the duel. All the while Jupiter and Irwin tried to lure some additional information out of him. Yet Timmy would not speak to them. It was already beginning to be dark when the officers realized they could wait no longer. Timmy, still rather clumsily, but with a higher extent of self-control, placed his duel disk on his arm and pressed a button, causing it to unfold, ready for a duel. Jupiter, however, rolled up his left sleeve, revealing a slim black duel disk attached to his wrist. Activated by voice, several blades folded out, making out the Card Zones of Jupiter’s disk, while the number 8000 appeared on a screen. “That’s some nice equipment.” Said Timmy. It was the Assault Disk V1, with state of the art technology used by undercover agents, Jupiter told him. Jupiter: 8000Timmy: 8000 “I’ll go first,” said Jupiter, adding the top card of his deck to his hand. The bottom half of his face cracked into a smile. “I activate `Kindling of Memories´!” As he said so, he inserted the card into one of the duel disk’s blades, causing its hologram to appear before the duellists. “This card, in case you’re wondering, will allow me to Special Summon a Memory Requiem monster from my deck. I choose you, `Memory Requiem – Torment´, so rise now!” A fiendish monster appeared onto the field of battle; its skin was black and its white eyes ran with bloody tears. It wore armour of black bladed metal. (ATK 0) Suddenly, a white and black symbol appeared beneath the creature’s feet, causing a pillar of pulsating light to rise up for a second, then abating. (Memory Requiem Torment: Level 1 | Level 0) Timmy frowned, looking confused. “You are wondering what is going on? My “Memory” monsters can treat their card zones as Memory Zones when summoned, and all monsters in such Zones have their level treated as 0. But, should I only control Memory Zones, you get to attack me directly. Moving on, I will have to resolve Memory Kindling’s final requirement; I take 500 point of damage for each card in my hand.” Now Timmy was positively confused, his face a mask of wonder about the opponent’s move. He had in fact gone through all the trouble of summoning a level 1 monster, and would now take 2500 damage from it… or so it seemed. The card’s hologram burst into blue and purple flames, rising high before crashing down at its master, who glanced unfazed at the infernal jet closing in. “Torment, absorb the damage.” At this, the eyes of his monster glowed white, and raising its arms, it seemed to suck in the very air itself, let alone the fires. The monster screamed as the fires was consumed into its body. “And,” Jupiter continued. “It will now gain an equal amount of Attack Points. Shame it can’t attack, though.” (ATK 0 - ATK 2500) As Irwin observed the duel, he caught a glimpse of Timmy’s face, which seemed blank. It was after all, not the first time he had witnessed Jupiter’s hypnotic personality in action, so he settled down on a barrel and watched the Memory Requiems doing their job. “Can you feel the memories coming out to you in your mind?” Jupiter commenced. “They’re shattered fragments of your past. My Memory Requiem cards have the ability to make you relive your past memories.” “By doing what, magic?” said Timmy, still with that distant expression on his face. “No,” was the reply. “Psychology. Your mind is just as readable as an open book before my Memory Requiems. What do you see in the eyes of my monster, Timmy?” Tears streaked from Timmy’s eyes, yet his face was distant and emotionless still. He started to mumble something. His lips continued to form muted words the detectives couldn’t comprehend. “This is your past, Timmy. You don’t need to worry about a completed chapter of your life.” Said Jupiter. “This is your past.” Jupiter repeated, as his words had little effects on the streaks of falling tears. “What are you seeing? Tell me. Allow me to see into your mind!” At this, Jupiter seemed to freeze, and no-one other than him could see what he envisioned. A dark room littered with toys. The evening darkness severed only by a crescent blade of moon-light, its void only cut by voices. Shouting voices that rose as a thunderous symphony. Then, another voice. It was feeble, and came from the room’s little bed, on which lay the child Timmy. Timmy spoke in a whisper. “Please, daddy... stop.” Were the words from his trembling lips, as though the people downstairs could hear and obey. After having repeated these words several times, Timmy went silent. The house exploded in a scream. The kid leapt from his bed and dashed for the door. Standing in the living room, Timmy saw his father, in whose hand dangled a blood-soaked knife. Timmy twitched, as though he was being dragged back to reality. His face was swollen and wet with tears, but his facial expression was still rather distant. “What the heck was that?” “You should know your memories a bit more than I,” said Jupiter coolly. “But I do in fact plan on finishing this before it becomes darker outside,” “Since I haven’t Normal Summoned a monster as of yet, I can do so, bringing forth `Memory Requiem – Rage´!” At this, the holographic image of another fiend entered the fray. It was rather monstrous, with huge talons and an array of spikes about on its body. On its chest was a twisted countenance with large fangs and on its face was a malicious expression. It roared in its rage. (ATK 1700 | Level 6) “Wait...” started Timmy. “Why I can Summon a Level 6 monster without Tributing a monster? You see, while all the monsters I control are Memory Zones, I am allowed to do just that. And speaking of Memory Zones...” the light show from before repeated itself, but it was now coming from this new monster. The monster roared again when the lights faded, and this seemed to change the situation at hand slightly. (Memory Requiem – Torment: ATK 2500 - 3000. Memory Requiem | Rage: ATK 1700 - 2200) Saving Timmy the trouble of expressing his wonder about this curious incident, stated: “As long as my Memory Requiem – Rage is in a Memory Zone, all my monsters gain 500 ATK. By the way, does this monster take you a stroll down Memory Lane?” Indeed, it did. Years had passed and the little child from the previous vision had grown into a sturdy teenager. Said teenager stood bent slightly forward, facing what was surely his father, shouting loudly. “I am going! I can’t live under you roof anymore!” The father stood perfectly still, his face drawn and weary. He said nothing as the door slammed, and three words echoed through the room: “I hate you!” Timmy was brought back to reality and stated, “My turn,” thus drawing a card from his deck. He looked at his hand, and his gaze, now sturdy, showed that he had regained most of his soberness. “I set a monster face-down.” Yet again, a holographic image appeared, but this one was placed horizontally between the duellists. “I will also place 2 cards face-down. Your go.” “Really, that’s it?” said Jupiter, drawing his card. I will have to be cautious about the face-downs, though, Jupiter thought while observing his options. Finally he concluded, but before he had placed his next card into the duel disk, one of Timmy’s concealed cards flipped up. It was the Jar of Greed trap. “I guess you know this card lets me draw another card, right?” Jupiter gave an approving nod, Timmy drew his card, and the first completed his movement. Yet another hologram appeared. “This card is the Memory Requiem – Remorse card. It will conclude my interrogation with you.” As he said so, the visage of a new fiend rose from its card beside its master. It was clad in a robe, and stood with its back against its opponent, head bowed in shame. (ATK 1500 | Level 3) “Now I will know what I searched for, so once again I ask you; what do you see?” Timmy’s empty eyes blinked, but other than a slight twitch, no additional reaction was shown. This seemed to give Jupiter a degree of satisfaction. Smiling, the latter rushed on; “I attack your face-down monster with my Memory Requiem – Rage!” The fiendish monster opened the mouth on its chest. It emitted an intense roar, which shook the ground and made the windows nearby rattle. The attack became silent for a second, and the trap card responsible for this affair rose from the ground. “I activate the Negate Attack trap card. With this, your attack is cancelled.” Jupiter chuckled. “I don’t think so. Activate Memory Sealing!” (The Trap Card flipped up) “This card will, given that I control a Memory Zone, negate the activation and effect of a Spell or Trap Card and destroy it, yet afterwards I will take 700 points of damage.” The newly activated trap card blinked in a sudden white flash, causing Timmy’s only defence against the coming attack to be shattered into pieces. These pieces were flung against Jupiter, but his Memory Requiem – Torment interfered, thus growing in strength. (ATK 3000 - 3700) Since Timmy’s blockade was now out of the way, the roar continued, quaking the garbage-littered ground. The target of said strike flipped up, revealing the “Inpachi” monster card. (DEF 1900) The defenceless monster shattered, causing its owner to shield his eyes from the shards out of reflex; a hologram doesn’t normally cause physical injury. Jupiter: 8000Timmy: 7700 “But that’s not all.” Said Jupiter “Each time one of my monsters attacks and I have Memory Requiem - Remorse on my side of the field, I will take 500 points of damage. But, of course my Torment will absorb all of that.” Both duellists watched as Memory Requiem – Torment began to scream once again, taking the pain from Jupiter’s other monster. (ATK 3700 - 4200) “But now for my next attack; Memory Requiem – Remorse, attack him directly!” The commanded monster rose into the air and turned to its enemy. Suddenly it swung its arms to each side, and by doing so, sent an array of golden beams that charged at Timmy, whose Life Point meter went haywire as the blow made contact. Jupiter: 8000Timmy: 5700 “And now, I will take a penalty of 500 points. Do your job, Torment.” Yet again, the tortured being became a subject to the effect of Memory Requiem – Remorse. (ATK 4200 - 4700) “That will do for attacking, but I will end this game with this card.” Jupiter held up the card he was about to use, grinning at the puzzled expression of his foe. “Activate, Memory End. This card will destroy one of my Memory Requiems, but not before it inflicts 1000 damage to you. Oh, and did I mention that when my Torment is destroyed, you take damage equal to its ATK? Game over.” Timmy’s eyes reflected his astonishment as this point. He watched as the monster was consumed by black flames, screaming in agony. Finally the monster was gone, making the screaming nothing but a ringing in his ears and leaving a black orb of fire in its wake. Then, just as the infernal sphere exploded, the soon-to-be loser of the game had to shield himself from the raging tempest of flames. Jupiter: 8000Timmy: 0 Both players’ duel disks deactivated and the duellists had to gather up their cards. Timmy seemed disappointed at the loss, yet perfectly fine otherwise. He had lost the vacant facial expression of his ever since the holographic images of Jupiter’s Memory Requiems had faded away as the duel ended. “I’ll not press charges on you, so stop wasting my time.” “Very well,” Sounded the reply. “But not before I get your phone number, in case I have to... interrogate you again.” Jupiter got the number and watched Timmy’s figure turn the corner out to the streets, and was left to the chilly judgment of the mid-December winds. Jupiter joined Irwin in the bar. The bartender beamed at them both. “Now, scooped up some criminal-stuff?” he chuckled. “I’m not really supposed to talk about that,” said Jupiter. “Now give me some of that fish." Max Darkness
Something I came up with: a simple duel puzzle. Just win this turn. Opponent: 4000 LP : "Gilasaurus" 1400/400 (Attack Position), "Jurrac Stauriko" 500/400 (Defense Position) and a face-down "Waboku". You: 4000 LP : Empty field, Hand: "Monster Reborn", "Geartown", "Ancient Gear Workshop", "Polymerization", "Terraforming", "Future Fusion" You should be able to work out the Deck you're using from the cards in your hand. Lexadin
Lovely card, Lex! Love it! The thread is updated, though not with your desired beat-stick. Though it now has a wickedly impressive beatstick all the same. Memories of a Life Thanks Okay.
Please continue your turn.” Ah, how splendidly sadistic Jupiter has become. Quite to my liking. I could post my re-written fic here, should you want it.
(Jupiter LP: 700 -> 0) *** Excellent chapter.
“Now give me some of that fish." Something I came up with: a simple duel puzzle. I'll look do and other stuf. Asap. g2g now.
Lord Ursus
I see what you're aiming at, but if your opponent simply play his Waboku before you attack, you're stuck... I might be missing something, though. How did you like my fic, Max?

Max Darkness
Hi Mandy. Just replayed through "Stardust Accelerator" (a whole 4 hours it took...) and am still recovering from the stupidity of it all... One small bit really caught my attention though. Once you've finished the story, you can return to Satellite. There, you can talk with Rally and co., who ask you how the City was. Now in the game, you don't reply, but my obvious answer probably would have been: "Not bad. Found out I was a clone created to summon an ancient deity. Standard really. I then had to fight four clones of myself, and due to my artificial Signer powers, I killed all of them during the course of the ritual; you know, as you do. And since the ritual failed, I’ve been abandoned on the street with no home, family or anyway of supporting myself. So yeah, pretty average. How was your day?" Lord Ursus
I lol'd at that, Max. Good day to you, Mandy. BTW, I made my own personal Excess monster: Beyond the turmoil and malice of mind stirs a new terror!Bask in its malevolent entity!Excess Summon;Descend! Identity Crisis Mephisto! Identity Crisis Mephisto************DARKFiend / Excess / EffectATK 0 / DEF 0This card cannot be destroyed by battle. Battle Damage from battles involving this card is inflicted to both players. Your opponent plays with his or her hand revealed. Whenever your opponent activates a Spell or Trap Card that targets, you choose the target(s) for that card. During your opponent's turn, you can send 1 of this card's Overlaid monsters to the Graveyard to force the activation of a Spell Card in your opponent's hand. If the requirements of that card cannot be met, negate its effect and destroy it. Then inflict 1000 damage to your opponent.
Max Darkness
Again, stupidity from the YGO games. 2010: Final Battle with Godwin Yusei: Thanks for helping out in that tag battle. We sure showed Godwin the power of our bonds! Player: Don’t mention it. Just make sure you give him a defeat worth talking about. Yusei: Okay! *Engine on his children’s-card-game-playing motorcycle cuts out* …Oh… Player: What’s wrong? Yusei: My engine’s dead. It must still be damaged from my duel with Kiryu. … You’ll have to fight Godwin. Player: Are you -bleep-ing -bleep-ing me?!! Are you honestly saying I should go and duel that psycho?!! Yusei: You have to. I can’t salvage anything from this wreck… Player: Then take my motorcycle! I don’t care! Use it! Use it! Yusei: But you have to do it… You’re as strong as any of us. Player: You’re mistaking me for the player from the last game! And even then, it was an artificial Dragon Mark! You’re the one with the power handed down from the ancients to combat this eternal evil! I’m just a guy who happens to be pretty good at playing a children’s card game! You’re asking me to face someone with the power to control the demonic and the divine; a man who could be described as the primal chaos incarnate, because you don’t want to ride a different motorcycle?!! You -bleep-! Yusei: But who else will do it? Player: I don’t know! Jack, Aki? They’re both Signers! In fact, Aki could probably lob a building into Godwin’s face! … It makes her a better candidate than me! Why me?!!
Lexadin
Took the time to read both of your fics and they where great. Max Darkness
true, but sometimes the treuth is more funny then made up things. Yeah. What is odd is that at the end of 09, Godwin says that since you and your clones are of no use to him any more, you're free to go. Just how many ethical issues are there in releasing four people who have known only a research lab and card games into the real world? Bear in mind the one that did escape did quite a lot (escape from Satellite, win a Tag Tournament, become Duel King etc.) and probably doesn't want four identical versions running around... EDIT: As for the anime... WHY?!! Why is the Crimson Dragon now holding what looks like a plushie?! And why have they decided to rewrite the entire premise of the show?! Lexadin
Lol, yeah. But then again, did most YGO games ever make any sence?
Max Darkness
I suppose. But something I did find out in the Tag Tournament was that a "Gladiator Beast" Deck coupled with a Burn Deck can be a vicious combo. Max Darkness
In 09 or 10 Max? Anyways commented. In 09. The tournament where you have to find your partner. Thoughts on this? Effect: 1 or more DARK Tuners + 1 or more non-Tuner monstersThis card gains the following effects based on the number of Synchro Material Monsters used: * 2: This card inflicts Piercing Damage. * 3: When this card inflicts Battle Damage to your opponent, your opponent removes 1 monster in their Graveyard from play whose ATK is equal to or less than half the damage they took. * 4: When this card destroys a monster by battle, inflict damage to your opponent equal to the destroyed monster's ATK or DEF, whichever is higher. * 5: This card can attack twice during each Battle Phase. In addition, once per turn, you can select 1 of this card's other effects. This card gains the selected effect, until the End Phase.
