Newb Defense League III [locked because remake]

Indeed. Also, since I'm looking for a Dark-Type to replace Zebstrika, which would you recommend: A Bisharp or a Krookodile?

Personally I prever an Bisharp over a Krookodile. However it really depends on what you're looking for. Bisharps have access to every cutting move in game (giving it suprising fersatillity) and being a Steel/Dark type also gives you an advantige to the powerfull Psychic while resisting A LOT of moves. But it has a nasty weakness to EQ and a 4x weakness to Fighting. And it knows a Steel-Type Counter, which is nice with a Focus Band. Krookodile has a large variaty of Dragon/Ground/Dark moves, but if that covers everything you want it too? And it doesn't really benefit from being either a Ground or Dark type, but is immume to Electric and Psychic moves. But he's a tad low on the Defences and has lesser base ATK, but higher Spd then Bisharp.

Personally I'd go for the Bisharp as it resist Toxic, has a Counter move and has access to Defiant.

Hmm, you've given me quite a bit to think about. If I chose Bisharp, would it be worth giving it some Speed EVs (along with Defense ones) to squeeze as much out of it as possible?

I think you should be fine with Max Atk and Max Spd investments if you're going the agressive side. If you want to use it as a Wallbreaker (which it is REALLY good at) I'd give it Atk and Def. Since it's probebly going to outspeed most walls.

What's certain is max ATK EVs. However, I'm still drawn to giving it some DEF EVs since it is its second-highest stat. Maybe I'll split it 2:3 or something with Speed EVs.

Well, considering the closest I'll get to competitive battling is the Battle Subway, I might as well make a semi-sweeper (since I have one in my team atm anyway) with good Defense to compliment its resistances.

Just make shure that (unless you're running 'Metal-Burst'/Focus Sash) you should get the heck out of the way of Fighting Types.

The perfect counter!

Indeed. My possible team now stands at:

Samurott: Scald, Ice Beam, Aqua Tail, Aerial Ace

Haxorus: Dragon Claw, Assurance, Brick Break, Aerial Ace

Sigilyph: Psychic, Ice Beam, Air Slash, Charge Beam

Galvantula: Thunder, Bug Buzz, Faint Attack, Energy Ball

Chandelure: Flamethrower, Shadow Ball, Energy Ball, Psychic

Bisharp: Iron Head, Brick Break, Night Slash, Aerial Ace

In essence, almost all specialised in either Attack or Special Attack (except Samurott and Galvantula); and most of them either being high-ATK/Sp.ATK semi-sweepers, or just tricky to get around.

Looks like quite a well ballanced team. Unlike my pretty much Pure Atk Team.

That's something I've noticed. A large number of the 'good' Gen V Pokemon are physical attackers. There's no Gardevoir, Ninetales, or Salamence; almost all the noteable Pokemon are either physically biased or just don't learn enough Special moves to be of use in that respect.

Now that you've mentioned it, that's quite true. Well beside the Psychic Pkmn, but they are ussually high Sp.Atkrs

Well, Reuniclius and Gothite... both have high Sp.Def, as does Cryogonal (which is one exception). Other than Chandelure and Galvantula, I'm finding it a struggle to think of a non-legendary non-Psychic Gen V Pokemon that is Special-orientated.

Erm, maybe Lilligant, Zoroark (I don't count it as a Legend), Vanilluxe, and perhaps Vulcarona if you don't count it as a Legend. But it's true that Gen V kinda lacks in the Sp.Atk part.

So maybe a dozen overall...? It's also struck me that a large number of Gen Vs only learn very limited movepools compared to their earlier counterparts. Haxorus can only learn one Fire-Type move (Incinerate), and Samurott only has access to Bug, Dark, Flying and Ice-Type moves. In fact, I would say Chandalure has the most varied movepool in Gen V, not counting legendaries.

That I wouldn't know, I do know that Gen V, as of now, has a lack of Movetutors. Which might be introduced in Grey/Ruby & Sapphire remakes?

Im so glad I came into this conversation now.

Do I spot sarcasm, or is my sarcas-O-meter broke again?

Most likely, that's been the pattern so far.

And, I'm in a pickle. I've hatched two Pawniards. One is Impish, one is Hasty. Now, I know Hasty natures reduce Defense, but the IV judge has said that its Defense IV is its highest, and it's a high number (26-30). And it's male, and I have very few hatched male Pokemon. I either take the statistically better female one, or I take the male one, which might turn out rather worse...

Personally I'd go for the one with a Better nature. As genders don't really matter seeing as nobody uses Attract these days. Well beside some enoying GLs.

No, I just think Bisharp looks better in design as a male. My incredibly non-commital plan is to raise both of them to about Lv.20, then use PsyPoke's IV calculator to see if there are any big differences between the two.

EDIT: Turns out the Impish (good Nature) Pawniard's IVs are abyssmal; while the Hasty one's are not half-bad, especially its Defense. That might offset the Nature's effect...

Did something on a whim (yay).

While face-up on the field: This card is also treated as a Field Spell Card. All EARTH Monsters on the field cannot be destroyed by battle (except this card). Once per turn: You can banish 1 Field Spell Card in your Graveyard; Destroy 1 card on the field.
