Newb Defense League III [locked because remake]

I think that is certainly better. My only persisting thought is to make it unequippable for the rest of the turn. I say this because of the self-named 'Formation Combination' (This would usually Special Summon itself during the Battle Phase, so it applies). You control two monsters, at least one a Union Monster. You attack, and then activate 'Formation Union', combining the pair. You then activate 'Combination Attack', splitting them and allowing both to attack a second time. Now, currently this can only do a certain amount of damage due to the low ATK of most Unions. However, if large Unions start hitting the field, this could become quite a deadly, and easy combo. Just something to bear in mind.

(Current) OCG Fix:

You can Tribute 1 Union Monster on your side of the field: Special Summon this card (from your hand). Once per turn: During your Main Phase; You can equip this card to a Union Monster you control OR unequip it to Special Summon it in Attack Position. While equipped to a monster: That monster gains 800 ATK and DEF. Once per turn: You can banish 1 Union Monster in your Graveyard; Apply the equipped monster for the banished monster's effect, until the End Phase. When this equipped card is destroyed by its own effect and sent to the Graveyard: You can draw 1 card; Special Summon this card (from your Graveyard). (If the equipped monster would be destroyed: You can destroy this card instead)

Thanks for the fix.

I agree that it can be a deadly combo, but keep in mind that you need to have those support cards in your hand/on the field first. Which, even if you run 3 of each, can be quite hard.

But I'll think about limiting the amount they can equip themselfs a turn.

The strong link in it is 'Combination Attack', which is a Quick-Play, so doesn't need to be on the field. 'Formation Union' could be replaced with the more common 'Roll Out!' if you have a Union to target for it. I'm mainly saying it because all three are usually carried by Union Decks (like 'VWXYZ').

@Max: Ahh, I'll wait then, I still need to fnd a better picture anyhow....

Yeah, I'm also working nowadays, so have less time to think about cards. That's why it's taking a while.

Also I did that little quiz in your sig. And I must say I like the result. Seems fitting aswell.

So did I. And it fits.

Maybe.

I thought, since you've shown us a Union or two, I should show you the middle-ing Union in my attempt to reboot the Sub-Type:

Effect: You can send 1 Beast-Warrior-Type monster (from your hand) to the Graveyard: Special Summon this card (from your hand). Once per turn: During your Main Phase; You can equip this card to a Beast-Warrior-Type monster you control as an Equip Card, OR unequip it to Special Summon this card in Attack Position. The equipped monster inflicts Piercing Damage. You can send this Equip Card to the Graveyard: This turn, the previously equipped monster can attack directly OR attack twice during the Battle Phase. (A Beast-Warrior-Type monster can be equipped with up to 2 "Tsunae" Union Monsters at a time. If the equipped monster would be destroyed: You can destroy this card instead.)

Sorry for double posting, but I wanted to know if you would come comment on this card of mine...I realize its proly overpowered, but thats why i need your crits....It has to be Light and Wind for a similiar to chaos effect...Where to attributes don't mach but then come together for the finale....Kind of like the Light and Dark chaos, except this is Light and Wind....

Hmm, Good card Max....I like it..... Hmm, I wonder if it would be possible to combine three sub-types into one.....starts thinking...I know you could

I already tried to make a Gemini Union, but I didn't see the point. Once you get two or even three seperate rulings adding up, it just becomes too difficult to use. For example, if you have a Spirit Monster that needs to be Gemini Summoned to gain a Union effect, it's just too much hassle to get that final effect.

I don't like the fact that it can constantly bring out high-Level LIGHT monsters to your hand. Mainly because a lot of those have self-Summon effects. And since you said 'Leaves the field', that can include using a monster for a Synchro Summon. However, countering that is that it cannot Summon itself, does not have a Summon trigger effect, and only plays to one of the meta Attributes. I still think meta players would find ways to abuse the crap out of it.

@Merging Restrictions: Well, the way i see it would be to use it to have a more powerful effect on a lower card...

A level 2 gemini spirit union monster could equip to another union or itself and increase the ATK by 500 or something along those lines....That what I've thought about anyhow....

I thought it would be fun to make a spirit XYZ, of course I'm not sure how to do that yet as spirit monsters usually be in your hand for them to work...

Well, thank you for your breifness, I needed some support....I've fixed it up now, added a Synchro to it....Next is an XyZ

Mhh, not bad. This can be quite the support for Beast Warriors.

The effect is a tad boring, but effective.

Thanks anyway.

I don't know about you, but the quality of the Duel Carnival duels I've seen so far has been really quite bad.

Well, I haven't seen all of them yet. Seeing as most of them haven't been subbed yet. Or just have been subbed. But from what I've seen, I have to agree.

I gues that Paradox was wrong when he said that dueling has evolved to frightening new levels. ;)

Lol.

Anyway, I'm currently trying to write a long duel, mainly because all my recent ones are very short. And all of Zexal's seem to be six turns or less. There's a certain elegance to two players being able to counter each other's moves for a while.

True, though also a certain anoyance I would presume.

I don't know. And I'm not talking about duels like the one Yusei had with the Lockdown Robot. I'm talking about ones where neither use stall, their Life Points are constantly damaged, and they keep their monsters alive through numerous effects.

I certainly hate duels that go on for more than 15 or so turns. But if you manage to win in the 12th or so turn, I find it really satisifying that you've finally vanquished your opponent.

Mhh, that would be quite intersting then.

I gues that can be true. Though most of my experiances are not that fun (darn you Meta!)

Good luck.

Well, here it is:

Photonic Inferno

[spoiler=1. Painful Memories]

The sun had set an hour ago, but Daichi was only just finishing duelling. He didn’t need the Heart Pieces, but wanted to get an idea of what he might be facing. So far, he wasn’t impressed. Aside from his duel with Yuma, he had consistently won in six turns or less, usually without losing any Life Points. He was still waiting for the opponent he sorely wanted to face, but he was nowhere to be seen, despite being at the core of the Duel Festival.

He returned his attention to the current duel. It was the fifth turn; he had 4000 Life Points, and commanded the field. His hand gave him the option to finish his opponent either through battling or effect damage. He chose to combine ‘Autumn Heat’ with ‘Brazen Double Summon’ to give him the best of both worlds, and ended the duel decisively. Not bothering to talk to his vanquished foe, he turned and headed home.

As he approached his apartment block, he noticed most of the street lights were not working. He cursed the civil service and pushed on. A flicker of movement in the sky above caught his attention, but when he looked he couldn’t see anything. Suddenly, a burst of light from behind him made him swing around. Looking down the street, a pair of street lights bathed a small area in intense light, and within that, a lone figure stood, shadowed.

“Number holder…I am the Numbers Hunter…and am here to duel you.” Daichi smiled slyly.

“Finally.”

“You are too confident.” The shadowed figure replied.

“For a reason. I’ve been told of you.” Daichi retorted, arrogance apparent in his voice.

“By who?”

“You wouldn’t care to know. But I know your cards, and your strategy. Duel me, and you will be on the back foot from the start.”

“My Deck holds many routes to victory. You are narrow-minded.”

“You’re human. And humans have favourites. They come to rely on certain tactics. You can convince yourself that you do not, but I can assure you that your Deck has only one strong strategy. Which I have witnessed.”

“We could converse for hours. Let’s make our Decks talk for us. Daichi.”

“You know my name? How interesting. Kaito.” The hidden figure clearly flinched at the declaration of his name.

“How do you-?”

“Your robotic companion is not the silent type. But like you said, perhaps it is best we duelled.” At this, the figure shone with a pure white light, revealing himself as he cried ‘Photon Change’. It was the one Daichi desired. This victory would finally end the most painful chapter of his life.

“Duel!”

Turn 1

“I’ll start this!” Declared Daichi. “I’ll Normal Summon ‘Evocator Chevalier’, and Set two cards face-down. I end my turn.”

“A basic opening move. I’ve seen much better.” Taunted Kaito.

“You are pathetic to listen to.” Returned Daichi “Without even starting your first turn, you are trying to influence my moves. Is that how you won all your duels? Your opponents’ failings? I can assure you will not be able to draw me in. This duel will show you your true strength. You’d better pray that it is great enough to overcome my own. Now make your move!”

“I draw! Because I control no monsters, I can Special Summon ‘Photon Slasher’ from my hand! Then, I Normal Summon ‘Photon Crusher’!” Daichi noted the ATK power of the pair of monsters and contemplated facing Kaito’s ace this early in the duel. “Go! ’Photon Slasher’ attacks ‘Evocator Chevalier’!”

The energy blade tore through its target, the shockwave striking hard. Daichi wondered if Kaito’s equipment had had the safety limits removed so his attacks hit with more ferocity. (Daichi LP: 4000 -> 3800)

“Already this duel is one-sided! ‘Photon Crusher’ attacks you directly! Prepare to lose half your Life Points!”

“Don’t jump to conclusions. I activate ‘Birthright’, which Special Summons ‘Evocator Chevalier’ from my Graveyard!” Kaito growled.

“Fine! ‘Photon Crusher’ attacks your monster instead then!” Daichi’s monster was destroyed a second time, the wind buffeting him again. (Daichi LP: 3800 -> 3700) Through its own effect, ‘Photon Crusher’ switched itself to Defense Position.

“I’ll take this opportunity to show you what I do with the ‘Numbers’ I take from those unfit to wield their power!”

I use my two monsters to create the Overlay Network! Exceed Summon! Luminous Defender, Number 40: Aeon Samurai!

“’Number…40’…” Daichi trailed off. Kaito glared at his opponent, awaiting a response. “Do you ever remember the people you kill to claim their ‘Number’?”

“I don’t kill people. I cleanse their soul of the ‘Number’s’ vile power!”

“And in doing so, you age them rapidly as their life spirit is exhausted. You consign them to their death. Is that not the same, if not worse, than running a sword through them upon their defeat?”

“I’m saving my brother!” Kaito replied, obviously angry.

“And I…was saving her…” Daichi fell silent. “Then you appeared…and stole everything I had given her.”

“Who?”

“The young woman who you stole ‘Number 40: Aeon Samurai’ from. Her name was Sylvia. She came from a broken home. Her father was absent, and her mother’s behaviour was erratic and unpredictable. Growing up, I was the only constant in her life. I did everything I could to keep her in school and on the right side of the law. And I succeeded. She was better through knowing me. Then, you demolished it all. Tell me, are you remembering her yet? Was she significant enough to warrant a memory?”

“Shut up!”

“Let me help you. One and a half years ago. In the city park. Mid-afternoon. She was returning from the arcades, trying to find a gift to thank me for my companionship. You appeared, and challenged her. She never had a chance. You stole her monster and her soul. And with it, any chance of her life coming to fruition. You sealed her fate.”

“But I didn’t kill her! I simply took the ‘Number’!” Kaito protested.

“She died three weeks later due to complications. Her mind and body simply couldn’t go on. You’d left nothing for her. You’d taken everything. You killed her. And you cannot escape it.”

“I didn’t kill her!”

“Of course you did! She wouldn’t have been like that if it wasn’t for you! The ‘Number’ did nothing! It was all your doing! And what about your other victims? How many lives have you blighted, demolished or ended?! Tell me!”

“I’m doing this to save my brother…”

“And he is worth so many wasted lives? Did you never consider that any of those you claimed were brothers? You are nothing but a monster Kaito Tenjo! And you need to accept it!” Kaito remained silent.

Turn 3

“You rely on fear to win. By the end of this duel, you will start to fear yourself. And when you finally succumb to that terror, your quest will come crashing down around you. Finally, your victims will have closure. As for me, this duel will be enough, at least for now. My turn!” Daichi drew. “I activate ‘Fanning the Flames’. This returns a Level 4 or higher FIRE Gemini Monster in my hand to my Deck in order to Special Summon a Level 3 FIRE Gemini Monster from my Deck. I choose ‘Vulcan Heroine’, which triggers its own effect. During a duel, the first time it would be Special Summoned from the Deck, I can target one FIRE Gemini Monster in my Graveyard. That monster can no longer leave the Graveyard, except if ‘Vulcan Heroine’ returns to my hand, but in return, I draw one card in addition to the Special Summon. I select ‘Evocator Chevalier’ and draw! Appear!” The monster arrived in a swirl of deep red flames, her weapon radiating heat.

“I now Tribute ‘Vulcan Heroine’ to Tribute Summon ‘Chthonian Emperor Dragon’!” The golden dragon appeared from a blast of flame, towering above Kaito’s monster, and roared. “’Chthonian Emperor Dragon’ attacks ‘Number 40: Aeon Samurai’!”

“You seem eager to attack the last physical remnant of your friend.” Kaito had regained his composure.

“It’s not her anymore! It’s your tainted copy of it! And it can burn along with you! Bipartite Flame!” The scarlet wave of fire consumed its opponent, but could not destroy it.

“You obviously don’t know that ‘Numbers’ can only be destroyed through battle by other ‘Numbers’!”

“I’m perfectly aware of that fact! As well as the fact that you’re taking battle damage from that attack!” A rush of flames spiralled round Kaito, catching him off-guard. (Kaito LP: 4000 -> 3800) “I set two cards face-down and end my turn! Now, show me if you can defeat someone with vengeance in their heart!”

“I’ll defeat you like the rest, and take your ‘Number’! Draw!”

“You still don’t understand. As long as you keep doing this, more and more will become your enemies. And they will seek your destruction. One will be strong enough to drive you into the ground, to show you your failings. I hope I am that one.”

“You talk too much! From my hand, I Normal Summon a second ‘Photon Crusher’, which I then equip with ‘Photon Spear’. ‘Photon Spear’ makes the monster it is equipped to count as two Tributes when used for a Special Summon. Bear witness to my ultimate monster!”

May my soul consume the darkness! Come forth! Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon!

The dragon descended behind its owner, glowing softly.

“I told you your Deck was predictable. It was only a matter of time before you Summoned ‘Galaxy-Eyes’.”

“You should concern yourself more with what’s happening, not what you think might happen! ‘Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon’! Destroy all trace of that monster! Photon Stream of Destruction!”

“I activate one of my face-down cards; ‘Crimson Hunter’! This equips itself to a Gemini Monster I control, and when it battles, it gains ATK equal to the Level or Rank of the monster it’s battling times 100! So, with ‘Galaxy-Eyes’ as an opponent, it rises to 3200 ATK!”

“I still have ‘Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon’s’ effect! When it battles, it can banish both itself and the opponent’s monster, until the end of the Battle Phase! Disappear!”

“Actually, ‘Crimson Hunter’ will stop that! Because it is equipped to a FIRE Gemini Monster, I am allowed to negate any monster effect that is activated during the Damage Step! Your dragon is about to die!” Kaito groaned.

“I activate ‘Number 40: Aeon Samurai’s’ effect! By detaching an Exceed Material, I can prevent a LIGHT monster I control from being destroyed by battle!”

“Again though, you will take the battle damage!” Kaito was once again cloaked in flames as Daichi’s monster’s attack cut its way across the battlefield. (Kaito LP: 3800 -> 3600) “I activate a card at this time! ‘Ancients’ Machina’ can only be activated when a monster I control with a lower original ATK inflicts damage through battle with another monster! I gain Life Points, and you lose Life Points equal to the damage you took, but more importantly, it allows me to draw a card ready for my next turn!” (Daichi LP: 3700 -> 3900) (Kaito LP: 3600 -> 3400)

“…If you’re done inflicting meagre amounts of damage to me, I’ll continue with my turn!”

“The Life Points you just lost could be the difference between you winning or losing later on.”

“That’s crap! I activate ‘Photon Sublimation’, which banishes two ‘Photon’ monsters in my Graveyard to draw two cards. I banish two ‘Photon Crushers’, draw two cards, and set one card face-down. Turn end!”

[spoiler=2. Chthonian Assault]

Turn 5

“My turn!” Cried Daichi “I use my Normal Summon to Gemini Summon ‘Chthonian Emperor Dragon’!” The dark red orbs covering his creature lit up, casting an eerie light across the surrounding buildings. “I then activate ‘Autumn Heat’, which causes you to lose 500 Life Points for each FIRE Gemini Monster I control and allowing me to draw a card, at the cost of one Gemini Monster I control losing its effect.” The orbs grew dim as the aura surrounding his dragon faded. (Kaito LP: 3400 -> 2900)

“So…all that for 500 points of damage?”

“Hardly. I activate my face-down card ‘Into the Fire’. By sending a Gemini Monster from my Deck to the Graveyard, a FIRE Gemini Monster I control gains its effect! ‘Chthonian Emperor Dragon’s’ effect is restored!” A scarlet light burst out of Daichi’s duel disk. “I’m not done! When a FIRE Gemini Monster I control gains its effect, I am allowed to activate the Equip Spell Card ‘Autumn Blessings’ in my Deck! I reveal cards from the top of my Deck equal to the number of FIRE Gemini Monsters I control, and if any of them are ‘Autumn Blessings’, I can add it to my hand! I reveal the top card of my Deck.” Daichi cursed as he looked at it. ‘Vulcan Princess’. He returned it to his Deck.

“Bad luck…”

“It’s a pointless annoyance. I don’t need it. ‘Chthonian Emperor Dragon’! Consign his dragon to the grave! Bipartite Flame!” As the fire rushed towards the monster, it glowed with a blinding light. When the attack finally hit, the luminous aura was enough to block the flames, dissipating them.

“What?!”

“The trap card ‘Lumenize’. First, it negates your attack. Then, a LIGHT monster I control gains ATK equal to the ATK of your monster!” (Galaxy-Eyes ATK: 3000 -> 6200)

“6200 ATK…? …Fine. ‘Chthonian Emperor Dragon’s’ effect allows it to attack twice during the Battle Phase! I attack ‘Number 40: Aeon Samurai’!” (Crimson Hunter: ATK: 2400 -> 2800) The searing blast once again tore at Kaito’s monster. (Kaito LP: 2900 -> 2300) “I set one card face-down to end my turn.”

“I feel this duel is coming to an end. Draw!” Kaito started, and looking at the drawn card, he smiled “This will seal your fate! I Normal Summon ‘Photon Cerberus’! During the turn this is Summoned, neither of us can activate Trap Cards! So your defense is locked out! ‘Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon’! Photon Stream of Destruction!” The brilliant surge of light energy streaked towards Daichi’s monster, consuming it. Both duellists heard the creature’s final howl of anguish as it disintegrated. The force of the attack almost threw Daichi off his feet. “Feel the power of ‘Galaxy-Eyes’!”

“I activate ‘Arcane Restoration’!” Daichi struggled to speak.

“But you can’t…” Kaito protested.

“It’s a Quick-Play Spell Card! It’s unaffected by your monster!” Daichi corrected. “When I take Battle Damage, I add one monster from my Graveyard with ATK equal to or less than the damage I would take, and then halve the damage I actually take! I return my 1500 ATK ‘Vulcan Heroine’ to my hand!”(Daichi LP: 3900 -> 2400)

“You continue to struggle, but your field is now completely open! ‘Number 40: Aeon Samurai’! Direct attack!” The centaur galloped across the battlefield, its whip picking up and throwing Daichi into the air. He slammed down with a gasp. (Daichi LP: 2400 -> 200) Around him, a crimson aura formed. Kaito laughed. “This is it! ‘Photon Cerberus’! Dire-“ He paused when he looked over. A new monster had appeared in front of Daichi. A demonic winged serpent loosing flames as it moved.

“…When I take damage from a direct attack… I can banish a Level 6 or higher FIRE Gemini Monster from my Graveyard, in this case ‘Chthonian Emperor Dragon’…and Special Summon ‘Chthonian Dante’ from my Graveyard.”

“But how did that get into your Graveyard?”

“’Into the Fire’. I used it as the cost.”

“In that case, I’ll activate ‘Photon Lead’, which Special Summons a Level 4 or lower LIGHT monster from my hand. I Special Summon ‘Photon Lizard’!”

I use my two monsters to create the Overlay Network! Exceed Summon! Arise, Number 20: Giga Brilliant!

“You Summoned it in Defense Position? Are you afraid of my monster?”

“Hardly. I activate ‘Number 20’s’ effect; detaching an Exceed Material to increase its ATK by 300.” (Number 20 ATK: 1800 -> 2100) “That will end my turn.”

Turn 7

“My turn!” Daichi looked down at his Deck, and smiled as he recognised the card. A small crease betrayed its identity. “I Gemini Summon ‘Chthonian Dante’, and activate ‘Autumn Blessings’’ effect!” He revealed the top card of his Deck. ‘Autumn Blessings’. “I equip ‘Autumn Blessings’ to ‘Chthonian Dante’! This grants it 600 ATK and whenever it deals damage to my opponent, I gain Life Points equal to that damage!” (Dante ATK: 2400 -> 3000) “’Chthonian Dante’! Attack ‘Number 20: Giga Brilliant’! Demon Eruption!”

The winged beast formed a ball of molten rock between its hands, and launched it at Kaito’s monster, swallowing it in deadly heat. As it hit, Kaito was thrown back, tumbling onto the ground. (Kaito LP: 2300 -> 1100)

“Piercing damage…”

“Correct. ‘Chthonian Dante’s’ Gemini effect means all FIRE Gemini Monsters I control inflict Piercing Damage. And, because of ‘Autumn Blessings’, my Life Points are restored by an amount equal to the damage you just took.” (Daichi LP: 200 -> 1400) As Kaito picked himself up, Daichi finished his turn. “I Set two cards face-down and end.”

“So, now you’re trying to go on the offensive now?” Kaito drew. “I’ll make sure it was your last mistake! I switch ‘Number 20: Giga Brilliant’ to Attack Position and activate its effect, detaching its last Exceed Material to increase its ATK by a further 300 points!” (Number 20 ATK: 2100 -> 2400) “Everything is now set, regardless of what you do! ‘Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon’ attacks ‘Chthonian Dante’!” Kaito’s monster’s lustre grew in strength as the jewel in its chest radiated. “I activate ‘Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon’s’ effect, banishing both itself and ‘Chthonian Dante’! Leaving your field completely open!” Daichi laughed.

“You don’t think I was anticipating that?! I told you! Humans are predictable! I chain my Trap ‘Autumnal Spirits’! By sending ‘Vulcan Heroine’ from my hand to the Graveyard, it negates ‘Galaxy-Eyes’’ activation, and prevents it from being activated again this turn! And with our monster’s ATKs being equal…”

“Yours will die, but not mine! You forgot about ‘Number 40: Aeon Samurai’! By detaching its Exceed Material, it can prevent ‘Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon’s’ destruction!”

“Actually, my ‘Autumn Blessings’ can destroy itself instead of the equipped monster…so ‘Chthonian Dante’ isn’t going anywhere either! Stalemate.”

“Not exactly! I still have ‘Number 20: Giga Brilliant’! With its Equip Spell gone, ‘Chthonian Dante’s’ ATK is now equal to ‘Number 20’s’! And ‘Number’ monsters cannot be destroyed by non-‘Numbers’ in battle!”

“Only while their effects are active! I activate ‘Dual Drain’! Since I control one Effect Gemini Monster, I choose to negate ‘Number 20’s’ effect!”

“No!”

“Which, of course, rids it of both its battle immunity and its ATK gains!” (Number 20 ATK: 2400 -> 1800) “’Chthonian Dante’! Crush that insect!” Kaito’s monster was shattered under its opponent’s fist, bursting into flames as it did. (Kaito LP: 1100 -> 500) As the embers died down, Kaito glared at his opponent, and chose to Set the final card in his hand.

“I end my turn!”

Turn 9

“My turn!” Daichi weighed up his options. Fearing that the card Kaito had set was a second ‘Lumenize’ or something similar, he decided attacking would be the foolish option, especially considering ‘Number 40’, with its low ATK, had been left in Attack Position. He realised that next turn, Kaito would most likely focus on destroying any Spells or Traps he Set, in order to clear the way for ‘Galaxy-Eyes’, as he had done before. Considering the twin effects of the card he held in his hand, that could be turned into an advantage. “I Set one card face-down and end my turn!”

“You’d better hope that your flimsy defense can withstand this turn! If not, this will be the end!” Drawing a card, Kaito smiled maniacally. “This will be the final nail in your coffin! I Tribute ‘Number 40: Aeon Samurai’ to Summon ‘Photon Basilisk’ from my hand! When this card is Summoned from my hand, I can destroy up to two Spell or Trap Cards on the field! I choose to destroy only one! Yours!” A flurry of lightning bolts descended upon Daichi’s card, tearing it apart.

“I activate my face-down ‘Photon Surge’! This gives one ‘Photon’ monster I control 100 ATK for each of its Levels! ‘Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon’ is Level 8, so gains 800 ATK!” (Galaxy-Eyes ATK: 3000 -> 3800) “I’m sure you realise ‘Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon’s’ ATK is now high enough to wipe out both your monster and remaining Life Points! And now, ‘Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon’ will destroy ‘Chthonian Dante’, in the same way it destroyed everything else you held dear! Go! Photon Stream of Destruction!”

The attack hit, and the blast wave buffeted both duellists. As the dust cleared, Kaito was in shock at what he saw. Under ‘Chthonian Dante’, he saw the crushed remains of his monster burning.

“How…?”

“The card you destroyed earlier had an additional effect.” Daichi explained. “My face-down card ‘Blood Knight Decree’ has an effect that is only available when it is destroyed while face-down by my opponent. The first time a monster I control battles after it is destroyed, I banish a Warrior-Type monster from my Graveyard, and my monster gains ATK equal to the banished monster’s ATK. I removed ‘Evocator Chevalier’ as a cost.”

“But…because of ‘Vulcan Heroine’, ‘Evocator Chevalier’ was unable to leave the Graveyard!”

“Until ‘Vulcan Heroine’ returned to my hand, which it did through ‘Arcane Restoration’. As such, when your 3800 ATK ‘Galaxy-Eyes’ attacked, my monster became 4300 ATK, and won the battle.” Kaito froze when it dawned on him. “Which of course, means you lose!”

Daichi’s monster roared, and released a surge of flame, destroying ‘Photon Basilisk’ and throwing Kaito back as he winced from the pain. (Kaito LP: 500 -> 0)

“I told you at the beginning I could predict your strategy. But you refused to listen.”

“How…? How did you win?”

“Because I am strong enough to overcome the ‘Numbers’ and the ‘Photons’. And there are many others like me. You are weak Kaito Tenjo. Your mission will fail, and your soul will be taken, just like all your victims. If you even want to glimpse upon my ‘Number’, you will have to become a far greater duellist.”

Going over to Kaito’s duel disk, Daichi pulled out ‘Number 40: Aeon Samurai’. Looking at it for a short while, he tore it in two, the card dematerialising as he did. Staring at the night sky, he slowly spoke.

“You can move on now Sylvia. You have no reason to stay anymore. Farewell.”

Struggling to get up as his opponent walked away into the night, Kaito swore revenge against Daichi, promising himself that he would triumph when they next met.
