Newb Defense League III [locked because remake]

Recommended Posts

Mhh, well I think I would prefer dueling with #2, as I regulary get hit by a 1000+ attack. But it's your choice.

I would prefer a #3, since my "Glad Beasts" use the "Speed Booster" Trap Card, which would be devastating if your opponent lost Speed Counters when they took enough damage.

Also true. Anyway, do what feels best to you, as you'll be using it in your stories.

Btw, I just noticed that Lava Golem + Dimensional Wall + Magical Cycinder is basicly a 2-3TK. I need to use that combo more often. And it's even usable in Turbo Duels.

It is. It's probably just relatively difficult to get all three cards on the field at the same time and keep them on the field for enough time.

Actually it's suprisingly easy. But maybe that's just luck. Yeah, probebly.

Btw, how does a cross between Gladiators and YGO sound? Not talking about the GB, but a world where people have to duel for the amusement for the masses, where monsters become real and losing it will cost your life?

 Is that a fanfic or so?

No, just saying that a dystopian future is the only setting that could have such a game.

[spoiler=Midnight Rivalry]Philip stood on the pit wall, looking into the distant lights of Domino City. A mixture of emotions flowed through him; pride at the achievements of humanity, and hatred of those who populated it. The silence was broken by footsteps. Turning his head, he caught Chizuru’s gaze. Remaining quiet, he returned to the cityscape.

“Why did you accept?” She asked.

“The proposal? Because it will help people I want to save. Nothing else.”

“Nothing else?” Chizuru asked, slightly disbelieving.

“That is correct. Fame in your world is not something I desire. The empty praise they lavish upon you is something I despise. In the Underworld, you remain respected, regardless of how long ago you reigned or how short your reign was. Here, you can rule for a decade, and you’ll be forgotten in a month.”

“You have no idea.” Chizuru retorted, insulted.

“Then tell me, who was King or Queen four times before you?” Philip replied calmly. Chizuru paused, before falling quiet. Thinking hard, she realised she didn’t know, but wasn’t ready to admit it. “Well, now that you probably don’t feel favourable towards me, perhaps now is a good time to find out which of us is the better duellist.”

“What?”

“The best rivals can make the best team-mates. As they strive to out-do each other, they pull ahead of everyone else. So why don’t we see if you can compare to me?”

“Compare to you? You’ve won one unofficial tournament while I’ve won countless internationals.”

“Well then; I suppose we should start.”

The pair entered the pit garage and entered their Decks into the customised duel runners. Roaring out of the garage, the two sets of lights vanished into the night.

“Duel!”

Turn 1

“I’ll take the first move.” Philip drew. “I activate ‘Speed Spell – Redlining’, which gives me two Speed Counters (SC: 0 -> 2) but prevents me from attacking this turn. That secondary effect doesn’t exactly matter this turn though. But since I now have enough Speed Counters to activate this, I shall. I use ‘Speed Spell – Summon Speeder’. When I have two or more Speed Counters, this Special Summons one Level 4 or lower monster from my hand: I Special Summon ‘Meltiel, Sage of the Sky’. I then Summon ‘Bountiful Artemis’ in Defense Position. To finish, I set two cards face down. Your move.”

“My turn!" (SC: 2 -> 3/0 -> 1)

“I activate the Counter Trap Card ‘Drastic Drop Off’. Activated when you drew a card, it now forces you to discard that card. And since a Counter Trap Card was activated, both ‘Meltiel’s’ and ‘Artemis’’ effects activate; I gain 1000 Life Points and draw one card. (Philip LP: 4000 -> 5000) I’ll let you continue.”

“I discard one card in order to summon ‘The Tricky’. I then Normal Summon ‘Turbo Synchron’!”

“I activate ‘Forced Back’. This negates a monster’s Normal Summon, and returns it to your hand. It’s also a Counter Trap, so once again, both my monsters’ effects activate.” (Philip LP: 5000 -> 6000)

“But now you’ve used up your Traps! ‘The Tricky’, attack ‘Meltiel, Sage of the Sky’!”

“My Traps are not my only defense. I activate the effect of ‘Honest’ in my hand. By sending it to the Graveyard, I can have one LIGHT monster I control gain ATK equal to the ATK of the monster it’s battling.”

A pair of golden wings formed behind ‘Meltiel’ before it prepared a counter-attack, tearing through Chizuru’s monster. (Chizuru LP: 4000 -> 2000) (SC: 1 -> 0) Recovering from the powerful blast, Chizuru composed herself.

“I set one card face down; and end my turn.”

Turn 3

(SC: 3 -> 4/0 -> 1) “Well, you put up more fight than that Police Droid. But you’ve left yourself open. I switch ‘Bountiful Artemis’ to Attack Position, and attack directly with both!”

“I activate ‘Call of the Haunted’, which Special Summons ‘The Tricky’ back from my Graveyard!”

“Very well. I shall cancel the battle, and finish by setting two cards face down.”

“My turn! (SC: 4 -> 5/1 -> 2) I Normal Summon ‘Turbo Synchron’! Then, because I have one ‘Turbo Synchron’ on the field and one in the Graveyard, I can Special Summon ‘Aether Synchron’ from my hand by removing one of them from play. I remove the ‘Turbo Synchron’ in my Graveyard to summon ‘Aether Synchron’. Next, I tune ‘Turbo Synchron’ and ‘The Tricky’ together!”

Roaring engines transcend the road of destiny and lead me to victory! Synchro Summon! Blazing cylinders, Turbo Warrior!

The monster’s lights lit up the dim track, the sound of its exhausts filling the air. However, above them, a drawn-out trumpet call echoed. Looking down, Chizuru saw ‘Meltiel, Sage of the Sky’ playing a jet-black horn. As the tune ended, she heard a rumble and just caught the sight of ‘Turbo Warrior’ exploding and collapsing onto the track behind the duellists.

“I activated the Counter Trap Card ‘Black Horn of Heaven’. It negates the Special Summon of one monster, and then destroys it, as you just saw. Plus, ‘Meltiel’ and ‘Artemis’ both activate. (Philip LP: 6000 -> 7000) Please continue.” Chizuru glared at her opponent as she considered her next move.

“By removing 1 WIND monster in my Graveyard from play, I can Special Summon this card from my hand. I remove ‘The Tricky’ from play to Special Summon ‘Stratos Soldier’. And since ‘Aether Synchron’s’ name is treated as the same as the monster removed for its effect, I can tune ‘Aether Synchron’ and ‘Stratos Soldier’ together!”

Roaring engines transcend the road of destiny and lead me to victory! Synchro Summon! Blazing cylinders, Turbo Warrior!

“’Turbo Warrior’ attacks ‘Bountiful Artemis’! Axel Slash!”

“I activate ‘Shining Cosmos’. By removing a LIGHT Fairy-Type monster in my Graveyard from play, I can negate your attack and end the Battle Phase.” A golden aura surrounded Philip’s monster, repelling ‘Turbo Warrior’s’ attack.

“During the End Phase, if ‘Stratos Soldier’ is used for a Synchro Summon, I draw one card. And if it is a Spell or Trap Card, I can Set it on the field. I draw!” Looking at it, Chizuru smiled, and placed it face-down on her duel disk. Turn end!”

Turn 5

“My draw. (SC: 5 -> 6/2 -> 3) From my hand, I summon ‘Vairon Stellar’. Then, again from my hand, I activate ‘Searing Light’. Despite being a Trap Card, if I control three or more LIGHT Fairy-Type monsters, I can activate it without Setting it first. By removing one LIGHT Fairy I control from play, ‘Bountiful Artemis’, for just less than two turns, I can render my monsters immune to your effects that target this turn. I then tune my remaining monsters, ‘Vairon Stellar’ and ‘Meltiel, Sage of the Sky’ together!”

Awaken great incarnation of light. Purge the darkness and deliver the innocent to salvation! Synchro Summon! Envoy of the Divine, Ancient Sacred Wyvern!

The familiar monster burst of the sky, its light bleaching the surroundings.

“As I’m sure you know, ‘Ancient Sacred Wyvern’s’ ATK grows by the difference in our Life Points. There is currently a 5000 point differential between us, so ‘Ancient Sacred Wyvern’ has 7100 ATK. Now, you expect me to attack, don’t you? I know ‘Turbo Warrior’s effect; and I know that Spell or Trap Card you set at the end of your last turn is most likely a card to lower ‘Ancient Sacred Wyvern’s’ ATK further. But my type of Deck has a darker side. I can gain Life Points, but my opponent can also lose Life Points. I activate ‘Speed Spell – Curse of Fate’. This selects one monster I control, and inflicts damage to you equal to half its ATK. I choose ‘Ancient Sacred Wyvern’ and inflict 3550 damage to you!”

Philip’s monster was surrounded by a series of candles. Their flames grew, consuming ‘Ancient Sacred Wyvern’, its body turning black. Then, it launched the inferno at Chizuru, the flames covering the track. She screamed as the damage struck. (Chizuru LP: 2000 -> 0) The shining dragon roared in triumph, before fading as the Solid Visions system was terminated. Slowing to a stop, Chizuru bowed her head, staring blankly into the tarmac.

Ah, of course. *I say after googling it*

Well then I'll work on it, and try making it my own fan-fic (which, besides that short story I wrote while being half asleep, will be my first one).

A bit confusing, trying to remeber the characters, but it was in impresive duel.

The characters aren't important at the moment; I'm just writing Turbo Duels.

Here's the Sea Serpent deck in action.

[spoiler=Future Enforcement]The siren wailed as the two duel runners sped through the streets, away from the highways and central district, and into the run-down Worker’s Sector. Philip knew these streets well, and weaved expertly between each block, not trying to escape, but simply testing the agility of the police droid. Eventually, he learned enough and slowed.

“Philip Arcan. You are charged with resisting arrest; two counts. Entering Persecution Duel.” The dull purple aura of ‘Speed World 2’ shot out, the lane being isolated from the rest of the road.

“Duel!”

Turn 1

“I’ll take the first move. I summon ‘Bountiful Artemis’ and set three cards face down to finish.”

“Draw. When the player controls no monsters, ‘Augment Serpent’ can be Special Summoned from the hand. When done so, if the opponent controls a monster, ‘Augment Serpent’s’ Level, ATK and DEF are halved. Summon ‘Deep Sea Diva’. ‘Deep Sea Diva’ effect: When the monster is Normal Summoned, the player can Special Summon one Level 3 or lower Sea Serpent-Type monster from the Deck. Summon ‘Mermaid Archer’. Send ‘Deep Sea Diva’, ‘Mermaid Archer’ and ‘Augment Serpent’ to the Graveyard. Synchro Summon ‘Oceanus, Envoy of Poseidon’.”

“I activate the Counter Trap ‘Radiant Trap Hole’. While I control a LIGHT Fairy-Type monster, I can negate the Summon of a monster with 1000 or more ATK, and destroy it. And because it is a Counter Trap, ‘Bountiful Artemis’ allows me to draw one card.”

“Activate ‘Speed Spell – Overboost’. Speed Counters increase by 6. Activate ‘Speed Spell – Aquarius’ Fortune’. Remove 3 Spell Counters. Remove two Synchro Material Monsters in the Graveyard to Special Summon 1 Synchro Monster from the Extra Deck. Special Summon ‘Sea Dragon Lord Gishilnodon’. Attack ‘Bountiful Artemis’.”

“I activate ‘Negate Attack’, stopping your attack and ending the Battle Phase. Being a Counter Trap, it activates ‘Bountiful Artemis’’ effect again.”

“Set 1 card. Activate ‘Speed Spell – Overboost’. Speed Counters decrease to 1. End turn.”

Turn 3

“Then it’s my turn! I activate ‘Speed Spell – Double Summon’, allowing me to summon both ‘Trust Guardian’ and ‘Harvest Angel of Wisdom’ from my hand. Then, I tune the pair together!”

Awaken great incarnation of light. Purge the darkness and deliver the innocent to salvation! Synchro Summon! Envoy of the Divine, Ancient Sacred Wyvern!

Appearing from a pure white globe, the dragon circled in the sky before descending to the duel.

“Next, I Set one card face down and activate ‘Speed Spell – High Speed Crash’. By destroying one card I control, I can destroy another card on the field. I destroy the card I just Set to destroy ‘Sea Dragon Lord Gishilnodon’!”

The two cards exploded violently as the pair rounded a corner, the smoke and debris shooting down the other road. Philip smiled as he prepared his end game.

“I attack you directly with ‘Bountiful Artemis’! Hunter’s Light!” Readying a white arrow, Philip’s monster took aim and launched its attack.

“Activate ‘Mirror Force’. When the opponent’s monster declares an attack, the opponent’s Attack Position monsters are destroyed.”

“I won’t let something like that stop me! I chain ‘Dark Bribe’ which negates and destroys your card, at the cost of allowing you to draw one card. (Droid LP: 4000 -> 2400) At this point, ‘Ancient Sacred Wyvern’s’ ability comes into effect. While my Life Points are higher than yours, ‘Ancient Sacred Wyvern’ gains ATK equal to that difference. Following ‘Artemis’’ strike, there is a 1600 point difference. (ASW ATK: 2100 -> 3700) Now to finish you! ‘Ancient Sacred Wyvern’, direct attack! Empyrean Surge!”

A glowing ball of light was formed in the dragon’s mouth, the environmental light increasing as well. As it launched the attack, Philip’s eyes briefly shone crimson. The radiant sphere struck, and the police droid vanished into the light. When the blast subsided, there was nothing but a few shards of metal remaining.

Well that worked out pretty well.

Btw, does a world where the spirit world (where duel monsters live) and the "real" world fused sound ploasible?

So it seems.

Well, since they've crossed before; the external force of the Light of Destruction could make that event possible.

Mhh, ok that's all I need to know.

I'll try to call your help when I'm up to making thier Decks.

Whatever happens; you'll need a large amount of Yang energy to be present to fuse dimensions. So the Light of Destruction doing it for some reason (or possibly as a side-effect of a greater plan) is your best bet.

Mhh, I might need to rethink this through then. I'll consider the Light of Destruction's intervention scenario and try to make it fit with my ideas.

A thought could be that the Light of Destruction uses us and our technology to try to destroy the Duel Monster Spirit World (by rending it apart with portals) but humanity's inate Yin energy prevents that and fuses the two worlds together to save them both.

Hence you end up with two main philiosophies in humans. Those who want to sever the two dimensions and return to the previous state, not knowing doing so would destablise them, causing one or both to implode. And those who want to stay together, mainly due to the fear in breaking the connection.

Possibly, though I don't want to make the LoD (Light of Destruction) an important bad guy here. But I like the idea.

I thought about that, but seeing as my story takes place several generation after the event, they wouldn't know any better then that both worlds are fused. Only a few really know the truth.

It need not be the Light of Destruction; just something that has a large amount of control over Yang energy. Perhaps Amatsu-Mikaboshi (trying to restore his rule)? Since he/it's a being of chaos, it technically has power over both elemental energies.

That's fine, but anyone with an analytical mind will puzzle over the obvious discrepancy in human evolution. Why were we not wiped out when Duel Monsters rose? It is possible then that your main character questions this and comes to some conclusions.
