New Consoles?

Recommended Posts

This thread is for new console ideas. Please be original with your responses, but don't go over the top. I don't want to see

Durrrr... 10x better graphics than ps3!!!
without a credible reason why. This will likely turn off many new viewers' date=' but, I feel that this is needed to keep out people that won't contribute much. Anyways, I'll start my ideas.

Storage

I think that there are a few paths that can be taken here.

Blu-ray.

This will likely still be used primarily by Sony, as they partially own the rights, but it is the current best in terms of game discs. However, I don't think that Sony has fully taken advantage of this technology. The max Blu-ray storage is 128gb. That's absolutely amazing. Granted, most ps3 games look amazing already, but with that much space, you could put nine xbox360 games on the same disc, maybe more! But if my suspicions are correct, there will be new technology that holds more by the release date of the next new console.

Multi-disc

They have the 6-cd changers in cars. They have multi-disc PC games. Why not bring this into console gaming? I think that Microsoft would be most likely to use this, but Sony would make it work best. After the HD-DVD pulled out a while ago, Microsoft has had little chance to get high capacity discs. This would be a great way to compensate. It would take more prep and be louder, but the payoff would be great.

Cartridges

Nintendo is far the most likely to do this. They used them before, and many people I know still have their NES or N64, both of which use cartridges. Cartridges can hold more, but they are bigger and harder to store. They are also more durable. But the disc rose with the CD add-ons for many systems. eventually the original PS came along, and the cartridge died except for Nintendo handhelds. But with the space on laptop hard drives, plus Nintendo's willingness to innovate and take risks, This would not surprise me at all. The only problem would be backward compatibility. Possibly they'll make one with both?

Control

Mind Control

This isn't really my idea, but I've seen rumors popping up everywhere. What I do know is that it is possible, but impractical. The system would be very expensive, likely at least 50k, and it would be buggy, but it would offer an amazing experience. I doubt this will come before 2020 though.

Current

The current methods are great, and Microsoft and Sony likely will not change theirs, but Nintendo will add or change, as they are known for their innovation in gameplay.

Add more, and choose the best from mine. Thanks!

Mind control doesn't make much sense, since you'd have to hook up sensors directly to your brain for the actual game to function.

Virtual reality would be pretty cool, and is infinitely more probable than mind control.

Yeah, like you'd put on a helmet or something and it would feel like your in the game. But the only problem with that would be people being too scared to play games like Call of Duty (with the possiblity of your head being shot off.)

I really think that Nintendo should go back to a standard controller for its next console.

I know that you can play music on a PS3, and I think XBOX360, but would be really cool is playing music while you play games. Also, if you take it one step further, you could have the option to replace the game's music with your music.

Nintendo could have something called an Arcade or something. You can the older Nintendo games like SSB and SMB insted of buying them.

those are some good ideas, but the wii is among the top selling consoles of all time, so they will make it backwards-compatible.

And Roxas, the wii does play movies if you have Netflix, but a dvd player would be nice.

You said Multi-disk.

Iam pretty sure I have heard of Mass Effect 2 for the 360, has 2 disks.

The Wii should be a DvD player, and they need to make bigger HDD for consoles. The biggest so far is 250GB for the new Xbox 360.

And we all know the biggest ever is multiple Terabytes for the PC.

Virtual Games, the Sims would be outstanding because you get to make out with some hot girl you created. Mind Control games would look stupid on your head and take away the control experience. PS3 does half of those things. Sony also said that the PS3 will go on for 10 more years before the creation of the PS4. So ya..

Last I check Nintendo dropped cartridges because the hold LESS. Really it would be taking a step backwards, which won't happen.

It's been done and failed miserably. It's called the Virtual Boy, I think you've heard of it.

Um.....why? The Wiimote has been working' date=' and they don't need to add motion controls to their games if they don't want to.

It's called, "mute TV ad play your own music". It's easy. Or you can buy cables to connect to an MP3 and the TV, turn off the games sound and play your music though the TV.

Well for now, I just want a Star Wars game that is like that video game on the wii that had the sword match up how and where you moved it. So basically, let the games have an option on how you want the person to move

Want I want in the next system is something similat to the 3DS. It would be nice to have a fusion of the Dsi and the 3DS. Having skype included wouldn't be too bad. Give us youtube at least.

A fusion of the DSi and the 3DS would still be the 3DS. If you're asking for them to bring back the GBA cartridge, that's why I suggested the Virtual Console for the 3DS, mostly because I'd like to play Oracles of Seasons and Ages on my 3DS, even if a ROM is available. That or they have a remake.

As for standard controllers, there's still the Gamecube controller, so what's wrong with that?

Nope. The PS3 uses a 2.5-inch SATA notebook harddisk, so it can go up to 1 tb.

Hope they use this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holographic_Versatile_Disc

Bluray can go up to 1tb, by the way.

blu-ray can only go to 128g max' date=' and is usually not even taken to that. But that is a great disc idea! thanks for finding that!

Here, read this.

Why have mind control when we are getting a new controller for the Xbox 360 that you are the controller.

I'm asking you, when you are the controller, are you expecting anything short of shovelware like on the Wii? Even Microsoft admitted that they were targeting the Wii crowd, and getting minigame collections.

On the other hand, mind control can actually play "hardcore" games.

the wii is great or shooters because you can buy gun grips, but the graphics suck, pushing people elsewhere. i think that the console wars only include sony and microsoft; nintendo goes for new things instead of power.

And it says that it is compatible with blu-ray, not that its a blu-ray disc.

Storage

Blu-ray

No other company will find it worth dealing with Blu-ray, because of having to work a deal with Sony. It's more expensive, and the enormous storage offered by the disc has not yet been properly taken advantage of. Obviously, Sony will stick with this.

Multi-disc

CD changers are pretty stupid. Multi-disc games have been released on every console, pretty much, but with the excitement of you SWAPPING DISCS.

Cartridges

You're confusing cartridges with SD cards and Flash memory.

Control

Mind Control

The current "mind control" system has you concentrating to move one direction, and concentrating harder to move the other way. Try again in ten years.

Current

Yup. I'd say the chances are high that all three companies will have integrated motion controls, as well. Nintendo seems to be investing in 3D tech, but that doesn't work when you have to rely on home TVs.

...you do realize that Kinect is pretty much a Wii without the controller? It's a bunch of sensors, and is no way near to mind control.

It's called "Kinectimals". How can you not be mocking it? <___<
