What do E-Heroes need to become a good archetype by today's standards?

That is what I am trying to answer in this thread. I'm not there yet, but I think I'm on the way.

I try to focus on the original theme of the E-Heroes; The vanilla Heroes and their Fusion madness. To support this, I've added a way for them to fuse as much as possible in one turn, ways to summon more Heroes, and some counter-cards to make up for the archetype's vulnerability to destruction.

Symbol of Heroism

Continuous Spell

If you control no "Elemental Hero" monsters, destroy this card. All "Elemental Hero" Normal Monsters you control gain 1 of the following effects, depending on their battle position:

• Attack Position: This card gains 500 ATK. Once per turn, if this card destroys a monster by battle, it can attack once more.

• Defense Position: This card gains 500 DEF. This card cannot be destroyed by battle.

Fusion Brigade

Continuous Spell

You can discard 1 card to send different "Elemental Hero" monsters you control, in your hand, or in your Deck to the Graveyard to Special Summon 1 "Elemental Hero" Fusion Monster which lists the names of all sent monsters as Fusion Material from your Extra Deck. (This Special Summon is treated as a Fusion Summon.) During the End Phase of a turn you Fusion Summon a monster by this effect, destroy this card. If this card is removed from the field, destroy all monsters Fusion Summoned by this effect.

Elemental Hero Solidwing

EARTH

Warrior / Fusion

6 / 2700 / 1800

"Elemental Hero Avian" + "Elemental Hero Clayman"

This card cannot be Special Summoned from your Extra Deck except by Fusion Summon. When this card is Fusion Summoned, destroy all monsters your opponent controls whose DEF is lower than this card's DEF.

Heroic Sacrifice

Trap Card

Tribute 1 "Elemental Hero" monster you control. Until the End Phase, "Elemental Hero" monsters you control are unaffected by your opponent's card effects and cannot be destroyed by battle.

Elemental Hero Restrictor

LIGHT

Warrior

4 / 1900 / 1200

When your opponent Special Summons a monster from their hand, you can Special Summon this card from your hand or Graveyard to negate the Summon and return the Summoned monster to the top of it's owner's Deck. You can return this card you control to your hand to Special Summon 1 different "Elemental Hero" monster from your hand. It cannot declare an attack, and it's effect is negated until the End Phase.

Elemental Assault

Quick-Play Spell

Activate only during a Battle Phase. Select 1 "Elemental Hero" monster you control. It can declare an attack during this Battle Phase, and can attack your opponent directly.

Hero's Assist

Continuous Spell

You can Normal Summon 1 Normal "Elemental Hero" monster per turn in addition to your Normal Summon or Set.

[spoiler=And that girl in the corner, let no one ignore her...]

War Room Blitz

Continuous Trap

Both players conduct a Battle Phase after their opponent's original Battle Phase.

Patch Notes

1.1:

Fusion Brigade now requires monsters to be specifically named as Fusion Material and has been given a discard cost.

Restrictor can now only negate Special Summons from the hand. In addition, the monster it can summon can no longer declare an attack or use it's effect until the End Phase.

@Topic Title: Nothing at all. They're a perfectly good archtype, with Ratheros, Evil-Heros, Voltic Heros, around one thousand Decks using Alius, Genex Heros, Fitting Room Heros, and a couple other fun builds all being viable. "By today's standards" they're already one of the best and most versatile archtypes, just often used terribly and with a few irredeemably bad cards that need to be skimmed over when looking at their card pool.

At the cards:

Restrictor and Fusion Brigade both look entirely overpowered. "Summon 3 Zero and 2 Shining from your Deck" and "Spashable +1 in the form of a 1900 ATK Level 4 well-supported beatstick" are both over the top. Other cards... All seem interesting.

I ran an E-HERO Deck using the old E-HEROs until about Crimson Crisis, when I had to stop because the sleeves fell apart and I got bored. Even with a 15 card Extra Deck, it was taking on Synchros and winning. "Terrible and irredeemable cards" isn't the term I'd use; but I agree, they're often not played right.

Hero Barrier isn't terrible now? There isn't more cards that outclass it in almost every worthwhile way than I can count? I didn't mean their core monsters or vanillas, but some of the support is just bad.

Ah, I see what you mean. That I agree with; but consider that Skyscraper was once considered terrible, and yet it became a focal point of an anti-meta deck.
