HORUS Posted January 8, 2008 Report Share Posted January 8, 2008 my favorite hero is King Kamehameha who established the Kingdom of Hawai'i in 1810 and preserved the independence of Hawai'i from invading foreigners. he once said: Hana 'i 'o ka haole (the foreigner does it in earnest) when english settlers first came to the islands of hawai'i, the kingdom was a free place, and upon arrival of settlers, they stole land and fenced it in, killing those hawai'ians who trespassed on 'their' land. Kamehameha the Great meant in this phrase that the Hawai'ian people should stay united and not fight the foreigners, but accept them, though never should they become like them. to me, Kamehameha I was a hero. though a rather different hero.
