Tommy shrugged. "I never met her before either, Samuel. This chick's crazy, and I'm hoping she's not a tourist, 'cause Samuel, that's not the thing a cool cat does." Tommy was relieved when the girl stopped dragging him and left him by a rock. "For your information," the girl started, laying her Westie on the ground, "I'm Morgan, not some chick, I am definitely not a tourist, and I was stopping you from getting slapped by Jecht.

"Say what?" Samuel asked, looking back briefly at Jecht who was getting smaller and smaller all the time.

"Ah, Tommy, I told you once, twice, thrice, to watch the things you say man! You get slapped for things like that; when in doubt about what to say, remember what the five fingers said to the face before saying it. Slap."

Samuel swiped his hand through the air in an over exagerated way, making his whole body spin around in the process. When he was back around he looked at morgan and said, "Alright alright, so you no tourist. A local girl then. Well, I been here six years and and never seen you. How long you been down in the Treme?" Samuel asked, taking another sip of his coffee.

Morgan picked up Willis before answering. "Me? 'Least nine or ten years. I don't go out much, though, have to deal with dogs and my mom."

Tommy looked, up, confused, at the girl who apparently has a name, but Tommy completely forgot it due to his airheadedness. "Dogs? I only see one, the Westie. Where are the rest of them?"

Morgan turned back to Tommy and sighed. "Well, obviously, I don't have them with me. They're all back at my house. I keep them as a shelter, because we don't have one around here."

Some people walked up to the shop. Cristal couldn't believe her eyes. The only thing is they weren't wanting to rent anything there. "Hey girly why don't you come join us for a swim?"

Cristal didn't know how to swim but didn't tell them that. "No thanks. I have to work."

One of the guys grabbed her wrist and pulls her out from behind the shop. "Come on." He picked her up putting her over his shoulder and carried her toward the water.

"Please stop! Stop it! You don't understand!" Cristal still didn't tell them she couldn't swim. They guy took her into the water where she couldn't reach the ground and just dropped her.

"So this panther here been in the Treme for about ten years now? Damn! And I thought I'd seen every face in this town!" Samuel shruged and said, "Oh well, learn something new everyday." Samuel brought his coffee cup up to his mouth for another sip, only to find it was empty. He closed one eye, brought the cup to his open eye so he could see in it, turned it upside down and shook it, then dropped it with a shrug.

"So you got a dog shleter do you? How long that been goin' on?" Samuel asked Morgan.

Vallen heaved a sigh of relief. Good News: it was break time, Bad News: He had to clean the latrines after break time. He walked out from the general area of the concession stand and stretched his legs and began to wander for a little while. He was just about to take a turn around a bend when he saw a few guys walking toward the beach with 1 of the guys carrying a girl on his shoulder toward the water while the girl wreathed. Suddenly the guy dropped her into pretty deep water and from what Vallen saw, she wasn't able to surface.

Vallen was conflicted, the girl wasn't by any means cute and he didn't want to be late for his latrine duty. Whats more, Vallen recognized the girl; she worked for one of the rival stands that were constantly competing for customers since their were food stands all over the place where the scuba shop was set up. Vallen had made it a good point to see what the competition was up to and the scuba stand she worked for happened to be his biggest worry since the restaurants in their area commonly had more customers than they did. Sighing heavily and cursing himself, Vallen swam out into the water, pushed a couple of the smiling guys out of the way that had carried her into the deep water which some reacted bitterly but Vallen wasn't paying attention to them. Quickly he dove under and grabbed the girl by the wrist and led her to the shallow waters. As soon as they reached the beach, Vallen immediately ran as fast as he could to his home that happened to be nearby to change clothes, leaving the girl on the beach.

Cristal started coughing and when she stopped she looked around trying to figure out what had happened. The guys walked off disappointed. Her boss walked up to her. "Cristal! What are you doing resting on the job?!" He seemed upset.

"But I wasn't sir."

"That doesn't seem likely! No pay for a week!" He grabbed her by her wrist and pulled her up dragging her back to the rental shop. "Now this time stay here."

"Yes sir...." She lowered her head as he walked off. Cristal wanted to cry but fought back her tears.

Nix stood on the boardwalk overlooking the beach, it was a great day, the sea was beautiful, there were happy people everywhere, but that didn't mean that it would turn out that way. Nix wore a happy-go-lucky smile on her face, and for the most part it captured her well. Even though she usually expected the worst in a situation, Nix hoped for the best. Her eyes panned out across the ocean, she saw potentially tragic events unfolding before her. A body, a girl, kicking and screaming being carried into the ocean. sinking... She didn't surface. Nix had started to move, she wasn't closest, but she did see. She jumped down from the board walk, landing on all-fours, her knees were a little sore, and her hands were a lot worse, but oh well. sand flew from her clean cloths, visibly getting caught in her stockings, but who cared? She was saving a - Maybe not. a guy she thought she'd recognised from a local food stall had dived in first and fished the girl out. He'd hauled her back to shore, and ran before she had any chance to react. Nix continued her approach toward the girl, now just concerned. She sat down next to her and shot her a nervous look. "Are you okay?" Nix asked, putting introductions asside for the moment. Nix looked the girl over, her clothes were utterly soaked, and her white hair was now dripping wet and hanging limply, atleast that's how things would have played out, had she not been yanked away at the last moment. Nix decided she'd follow at a distance, talk to the girl, make sure she was okay. Her new-found 'company' seemed to show no compassion for her.

Cristal's tears fell. She was shaking from being scared to death. She was cold and frightened and just wanted to go home. Cristal just sat there on her stool with her head lowered. Why did she ever sign up for this job? Why didn't she go for that on job at the market? Cristal wiped her eyes and lifted her head looking around. She thought she had heard something. She could hear those boys laughing nearby. They were laughing at her and she knew it.

Nix approached the clearly distraught girl, at the rental stall. She was crying. Her tears seemed to blend almost seamlessly with the wanter that dripped from every possible place... That poor girl. Nix could only imagine how terrible it could be to nearly drown like that, it must have been positvely awful.

"Hello... are you okay? I saw what those boys did to you..." Nix started. She probably doesn't wanna talk about it. I bet it's a major sore spot. She'll probably just tell me to leave now...

Cristal looked at the person that had walked up. "Yes...I'm okay..." She was a bit shocked that someone had walked up to her to see if she was okay. No one had really seemed to pay much attention to her before. Now someone was asking if she was okay. She was shivering but tried to ignore it. "Can I help you with something?..." Cristal asked trying to hide the shaking in her voice. Cristal was hoping the person didn't notice she was crying.

"No, thanks, I'll be okay. but is there any way I can help you? You're clearly really shaken up over this and I don't blame you. nix brushed her shock of blue hair from her eyes. in order to make a more direct connection with the girl. Nichole wasn't sure how, if at all she could help, but it was just dreadful to see the girl in this state, Nix' was showing her dominant aspects here. Her compassionate, friendly nature. If Nix did nothing else, perhaps that would atleast help to calm the distraught your lady down. "By the way, I'm Nichole, but everyone calls me Nix."

"Cristal Flames." She told her name. "I can't swim. I never learned how. I thought if I got a job here I could probably teach myself how to swim when I wasn't working." She was still dripping water but not as bad as before. She had dried off some. Cristal looked at the clock. She still had an hour before break. Cristal looked back at Nix. She liked that name. She didn't know why. She just did.

"You've got such a pretty name..."And a face to match... The thought resounded in Nix' head. It was odd, the girl clearly didn't fuss too much over her appearance, but there was a sort of natural appeal to her. "Listen, I can swim pretty well... I'm not exactly a professional instructor, but I'm sure I could help you atleast get to the point where you can keep your head above water, and move around a bit..." The reasoning behind this offer was many-fold. Nix was motivated to learn more about the girl, she was interesting... She was so sick of seeing people victimised and hurt. She'd been there too often in her life, and if there was any tiny thing she could do to help, then she'd do it.

"Really?" Cristal couldn't believe her ears. "Thank you so much." She smiles. "I hope I won't be a bother though." Cristal told her. She felt nervous about learning to swim. She had sunk before. What if she sunk again? What if she never came up? Cristal's mind filled with scarey thoughts. She was about to turn down the idea.

"It's no bother, and we'll start in nice, shallow water, that way, if you don't think you can swim alright, just stand up, that's how I learnt. From there on it's easy you just keep going a little deeper until you feel comfortable anywhere, and you can take it at your own pace, I wouldn't swim in more then four feet of water for years." I'm probably just boring her, or wierding her out now, maybe I should wrap this up for now. "So, when do you finish? If we have time today we can start, if you've got nothing better to do of course..." Did Nix sound like she was flirting? Was she comming off as too eager?

"My break is in an hour." Cristal told her. "Okay. I will try my best." She didn't know what to really say. No one ever talked to her before. She was so nervous talking to someone. Cristal wasn't used to this. She was still trying to figure out what happened before. She had been sinking to the botton of the sea. Her eyes were closed and the next thing she knew she was on the shore. What had happened? Someone had to of saved her. But who did it?

"An hour?" Nix asked, confirming what she'd just heard. "I'll be back then, I just need to go home and change into something that I can swim in." With that, Nix waved goodbye to the girl who would perhaps be the friend she'd been looking for in this town. She'd lived herea few weeks to the day, and didn't know anyone yet, not really, atleast. But then, this girl, Cristal, seemed shy... She probably didn't have anyone either. This could be so great for both of us. I can't afford to mess this up. That girl's probably straight, I don't wanna wierd her out. She turned her head one last time to steal a last look at Cristal, before rounding the corner from the stall and leaving her line of sight.

Cristal sat there. People came up and she rented items out to people. She waited paitently for time to pass. She hated waiting but knew she needed to wait. Cristal noticed that the girl was acting differently than most of the girls she had seen talking before. She just sat there getting her mind off things. She still was trying to figure out who had helped her before. She relized the guy from the other shop wasn't there. She guessed he was on break or didn't have to work today. Then she realized he was there before, so why wasn't he there now?

Tommy sat off to the side with a small Coke he had hidden in his pocket when he'd left his uncle's house. Morgue or whatever was chatting with Samuel avidly about dogs or something. Without the two of them noticing, Tommy slipped off towards what he hoped was a snack stand.

-----

"Me? I've been running the dog shelter for a few years, maybe five or six now. Yeah, I have about twenty dogs right now. Hey, where'd that annoying little kid go?"

The length of the walk home was decent, about 20 minutes, This would allow her just enough time to get ready and head back to the stall before Cristal's break started. The door creeked as she entered the house. It was empty, her family, both blood relatives and other family members had gone out for the day, some of them were at the beach, ome off at sporting events, her mother was off eating lunch with an old friend she'd known as a child before moving to Arizona. Making full use of the 20 minutes she'd budgeted herself at home, Nix picked out her favorite bathing suit, trying multiple on, to see which one she was most comfortable, and which she seemed most attractive in. She settled on a slightly tight black one she hadn't worn in a while, it was accented by red rose pettles. Almost as an after-thought. Nix grabbed a pair of goggles from her bedroom, she didn't use them much anymore, but she knew it would probably help Cristal's confidence to be able to see clearly in the water. She changed quickly and left the house on her way back down to the stall, running part of the way there, attempting to save herself 5 minutes. I really am comming on too strong...

"Tommy you mean?" Samuel looked around and saw him headed for the snack bar.

"Now where dose he think he's going?" Samuel asked, turning to Tommy. He held a hand up to Morgan and said, "Give me a minute okay Morgan? I'm gonna find out what our little firend is doing." Samuel walked over towars Tommy at first, then he began to jog to close the distance between them.

"Tommy my cool cat, where do you think you were running off to?" Samuel asked, wrapping his arm around Tommie's shoulder.

Tommy shrugged his shoulders. "I was just going to grab a snack, I was kinda hungry. Can I finish doing that, Samuel?" Without waiting for a response, Tommy grabbed a bag of chips and paid for it. "OK, let's go back now." Tommy had actually been trying to leave, but no dice, he guessed. He followed his older friend back to the beach where Morgan was sitting. This is getting more interesting...

"Nope, no no," said Samuel, grabbing Tomy by the back of his clothing and brining him back to where he was standing. "You sir, are not playing your cards right at all young Mr. Cat. But I tell you what I'm gonna do, I'm gonna take you to my house for two reasons! One, so you can get more *ahem* acuanted with that fine young lady down there on the beach. And two, I got a suprise just for you Tommy. Come on, grab your bag of chips and let's scoot! I'll go and get the fine young lady." Samuel smiled and let go of Tommy, at the same time walking back to the beach and saying in a loud voice, "Oh Ms. Morgan!"

Vallen sat miserably in the latrine, scrubbing each of the smelly toilets in each stall. After saving the girl that had been unceremoniously thrown into the water, he'd barely had time to go home and get changed and get back in time. Each second he spent scrubbing left him wishing that he'd been on time that morning. Vallen stood up and walked to the last stall and began cleaning the last toilet.

Vallen stood up and whipped the sweat from his brow and surveyed the bathroom floors mopped and the toilets cleaned, glad that it was finally over and done with. Vallen smiled and thought, "From this point on, if I can help it I will never be late ever again!" With that thought Vallen walked back to the stand.
